This video got me through my extensive surgery journey 5 years ago. My body in pain and my leg in traction, I watch every video you posted. You cant know how much you helped me. Thank you man.
Wow. I don’t know what to say. I am sorry you went through that but I am honored that my videos gave you a little comfort through a tough time. Thank you for sticking around all of these years. I truly appreciate the support. I hope you don’t have to go through anything like that again.
I started watching you when you redid your bathroom. I have loved every video. I am really looking forward to all the videos to come with the new house.
I re-watch the bathroom time-lapse for zen relaxation, believe it or not. It's just lovely seeing everything getting stripped down, problems fixed, and then everything getting built back up into something so pretty.
Didn’t get to see the first one but so glad you reposted it with the voice over. It came out amazing. Loved everything especially how beautiful the floor came out. Thank you for sharing
I am addicted to the channel. I watch every video as soon as they hit youtube. This was great nostalgia. The commentary really helped with explanations. You did an amazing job.❤
Reminds me of me. My first house was a total rebuild. It was in rough shape, brick ranch. The biggest thing I did was gut the site built kitchen. Built cabinets in my garage base and upper to a style from a magazine. Solid maple fronts, poplar boxes. Got it all done then sold it, moved to larger house ( kids) needed more room!! Sounds familiar huh!!!! Now I’m retired carpenter forty years just did small alterations and maintenance to the newer house. Just installed new garage door opener today. First one lasted twenty years. YOU DO NICE WORK👍
This is the first time watching any part of remodeling this room. When I saw you building the frame I thought you were making a Murphy bed not realizing you were building the frame for the closet till you now mentioned it. 😊
Dang, 5 years! I didn't realize it had been that long. Amazing and you have a wife and 3 mini-me's now. I remember watching your first video back then.
I have been watching you for a while now. And I didn’t even realize you were the same person when I would look up how to do things such as making stairs. I have a crawlspace that I need to make stairs for and am doing that now. I finally brave enough to try this. I am a disabled woman and have a fixed income and my CV listen have lives and jobs so I have to do my home improvements on my own. So I made my stairs and didn’t take into account the small space that I had to work with and I had to adjust for only a couple of stairs but I am finishing the stairs today. No I did not record the process. It is so much harder to do without your guidance and you make everything seem so much easier. I had tried to patch my walls in my bathroom bc my father had bought this house originally for my brother who destroyed the house so I helped him repair the home and he made so many shortcuts and half assed his way through the home since he was on a time crunch. My bathroom is awful and I tried to smooth the walls but it did not turn out as good a so could have been so now my decision is to take all of the walls out and level the floor and fix the toilet so it is closer to the wall and I have more room in the tiny bathroom. I also watched your bathroom remodel and it has inspired me to do it the right way. My son does flooring and tiling so I’ll leave that to him but I can do the floor joists and the drywall. And I bought the lights you bought for your bedroom to repair my lighting in my house. I do not have lights in the kitchen co en or back bedroom and I had an appointment electrician come out. He says I have power to my fixtures but the fixtures are too old and need to be replaced. I have a drop ceiling in my house hat my dad put in but the lights will stick to the tiles so I am excited to get my house back under control. And I have you to thank for it. I would love it if I could message you if I run into issues that I cannot remedy myself. But wish me luck bc I’m tired of having a house that is half a**. Thank you for you wonderful videos and your positivenees in your videos.
I’m just grateful that you did this work for so many folks to benefit from your skills and craftsmanship much appreciation my friend you and your family are golden 😊
The bathroom remodel timelapse was the first video I watched on your channel. Really enjoyed that video which led to binge-watching all other videos. Great work.
Absolutely stunned at your talent! You critiqued yourself a lot where as I would have been proud of myself for painting 🤣🤣🤣. Amazing thank you for sharing!
I enjoyed the multiparty videos much more than time lapse. I’m interested in diy and renovation. I like to see you working step by step. So, not everyone prefers Timelapse.
Actually my first time seeing this and I just found your channel maybe a month ago. There’s a million things you could’ve done better or differently but I also think it looks great. A huge difference plus better insulated etc. and when homes look new and updated you enjoy it more, especially since you did it yourself plus better resale value. I like your approach to remodeling and enjoy your videos. Cheers!
I really look forward to your videos. The informative way you explain things I find beneficial. Even if you put out the disclaimer that you are not a professional at doing that particular thing. I love the bloopers or outtakes. Nice to know you get flustered too lol
Awesome to hear! Yes I don't ever want to try to pass myself off as the expert in everything. That would just be a lie. I am trying my best just like everyone else and if someone can learn something from me then that is awesome. Thanks for watching!
This was the video that got me hooked and then subscribed. The hook that did it for me was when you mentioned you live in MA. So hello from another MA resident!
I love all of your videos. They are just fun to follow along even if I am not working on what you are doing! The day I need to do it, I'll have a good basic idea of what to do.
Wow - pretty cool. I did not see the bedroom remodel. I discovered your channel when you were doing the bathroom gut and remodel project. I subscribed at that time; I was planning on my bathroom remodel and watched as many bathroom videos as I could. I like how you made each room a mini series and provided a break down of all that went into each room. Faithfully following you through the years and renovations of your cute little house. Now on to a bigger house with more projects! Yeah!
Hey man, been watching for about a year now. Planning on buying my first house soon and these have given me a lot of confidence on remodeling my future home. Thank you so much for sharing, these videos are always so comforting to me for some reason. Love from Canada
Thanks for the recap Mr Fixit. I've been watching. I wasn't able to do the extent that you did but this is the video that convinced me I could do a little of this & that @ my place too. I'm going to continue watching the new place. Kudos to u & the rest of the Mr. Fixing team 😊
Yes! I do mostly real-time with lot's of explanation. I think time-lapses are good for bigger jobs like this. More entertaining and satisfying. Thanks for being a subscriber!
ofc as it's your own work you always want to improve ever further, but wow that's honestly amazing, since i joined like... around the time of the bathroom ish period? i knew you did a lot to that house, but again, wow
Loved this timelapse with commentary. I still would love your feedback on a previous question of mine = how much extra $$$$ did you generate on all your renovations vs if you did none at all, when you sold the house. I'm not looking for personal private financial info, just an estimate in the extra value obtained for your renovations. As an example, some would say if you spend $5,000 on a kitchen renovation one would benefit upon sale with an extra $10,000 in the sale price. Just curious. Continued success to you and your family. Looking forward to your new house room by room renovations. Sincerely.
Honestly, I'm glad someone has taken it upon themselves to document how we used to make built-ins in middle class tract homes in the 90s, so the next generation knows! The door frame for the closet was just forced perspective, no mistake was made! ;) If you want a ton of money, just have your bank change about $2,900 to pennies.
Love the new house but still disappointed you didn’t add a second floor to this house. Really wanted to see how you’d manage to add new exterior walls and roof.
OK, quick question - maybe I missed it in the original video, but why did you not use primer on the drywall? Was that a paint/primer combo? And if so, did it actually do what it claimed?
Ahhh good question! I did use a primer/paint combo, it seamed to work out in this room but after doing the bathroom and the living room with it, I gave up. I will always prime newly finished drywall. Or if I am painting over dark paint with light. I have heard it is a gimmick and I am starting to believe it. Hope this helps! And thanks for being a loyal subscriber!
Yeah I think it’s a good idea. I think the brand doesn’t matter so much as a lot of brands offer different qualities of paint. I still use Behr a lot but try to buy the best product they offer when it matters. I have used SW and it is definitely top of the line but you will pay top of the line prices for it. 👍
My husband remodeled our kitchen which was covered with wall paper. I took the wall paper off the walls, and tore my elbows out. I had to have surgery on both.
Hey! I was in construction a few years before the original video was posted for about 12 years. Did a lot of home renovations. I still am learning everyday though.
We will have to see... I haven't sold it yet. 😉 By all estimates that I am seeing, though, with the market right now and what I bought it for... absolutely!
One other observation - in the part towards the end when you are on your knees sanding the floor - do you not believe in knee pads??? My knees hurt looking at you on the floor without pads 😁😁😁
Was just sanding some drywall. So I took a picture of my face, captioned when doing coke goes wrong. It was such a mess. I don’t like Sheetrock all that much either but I’ll do it. It’s very satisfying in the end.
@@TheFixerHomeRepair it looked like I pretty much just buried my face in a pile of it lmao. The mask really did do a pretty good job. It takes me the rest of the day just to clear out my sinuses usually.

For me it was the living room time lapse, but I saw this one soon after.

Redoing that bedroom is where I came in. Great viewing, Matt!
👍👍👍
I started watching you when you redid your bathroom. I have loved every video. I am really looking forward to all the videos to come with the new house.
Stay tuned! Things are going to happen real soon! Just readjusting after the move... and the down payment. 😂. Thank you for your patience!
I re-watch the bathroom time-lapse for zen relaxation, believe it or not. It's just lovely seeing everything getting stripped down, problems fixed, and then everything getting built back up into something so pretty.
I found your channel when you redid the stairwell to the basement. Love your channel!
Thanks so much!

I started with the bathroom, then got addicted and watched everything! Loved it all - esp the pjs!!! 😺
I remember you doing that room. Can’t believe it was 5 yrs ago!

You are my soulmate regarding sanding. I HATE it.
It’s the worst!!

Yeah… 🤷♂️ sorry, wasn’t in the cards. I wouldn’t have trusted that block foundation anyways.
Funny, I did the exact same thing with my first "built ins" in my first house. Live and learn as they say.
Yes! It made sense at the time to me. 🤷♂️
didn't realised, I have been here watcing a guy fix his house for 5 Years...Oh well, it was good content and informative too.
😂 Happy to have you!

I came in on the bathroom remodel.
Thanks for sticking around!!
How much would it cost to do this room renevation with a general contractor plus the wood floor?
OK, quick question - maybe I missed it in the original video, but why did you not use primer on the drywall? Was that a paint/primer combo? And if so, did it actually do what it claimed?
Ahhh good question! I did use a primer/paint combo, it seamed to work out in this room but after doing the bathroom and the living room with it, I gave up. I will always prime newly finished drywall. @@TheFixerHomeRepair OK - good info. I generally follow the advice of Jeff Thorman (@HomeRenoVisionDIY), so I use primer (and SW paints) every time.

I got a crack in my basement wall and one starting in the corner that makes me a little bit nervous
My husband remodeled our kitchen which was covered with wall paper. I took the wall paper off the walls, and tore my elbows out. I had to have surgery on both.

Hey Matt, that frame for the closet is too big at first.
🤣
🤣👍
Where did you learn all this stuff, are you a carpenter?
Hey! I was in construction a few years before the original video was posted for about 12 years. Did a lot of home renovations. I still am learning everyday though.
With all the work you did, do you feel you got your money back out of it when you sold it?
We will have to see... I haven't sold it yet. 😉
By all estimates that I am seeing, though, with the market right now and what I bought it for... absolutely!
imagine being the lucky people who got the benefit of that room afterwards compared to what you originally had.
One other observation - in the part towards the end when you are on your knees sanding the floor - do you not believe in knee pads??? My knees hurt looking at you on the floor without pads 😁😁😁
I do wear them more now but in this case I would not have in order to not damage the floor. 😁👍
Good video - wrong taping mud!!
Yes. You live and learn!
Was just sanding some drywall. So I took a picture of my face, captioned when doing coke goes wrong. It was such a mess. I don’t like Sheetrock all that much either but I’ll do it. It’s very satisfying in the end.
