  • Another fine weekend for bikepacking, this time after looking at the Dartmoor Wild Camping web page I had two locations in mind for camping. One spot above the Teign Valley at Cranbrook Fort and the second at Raven`s Tor at Lustleigh Cleave.
After making good time to the Teign Valley I continued onwards to Lustleigh Cleave for some ace views overlooking Manaton and Hound Tor.
The return journey was then a much shorter ride than the pervious day, heading back to Bovey Tracey, Chudleigh then a liitle bit of Haldon Forest Park before descending back to Exeter and returning to my start at the Double Locks Inn.
    Hope you enjoy the video

    Hi great videos.
We are just getting back into cycling again.
What do you use to set out your routes and what navigation do use? Smartphone or gps?
    Thank you 😊🚲

Hi and thanks. I use my smartphone and a power bank (anker powercore+ 21000) to keep my phone charged. I plan my routes on Google Maps with the cycling tab clicked. I use the Sustrans website for referencing the UK National Cycle Network. Once I have plotted a route in Google maps I can "share or embed " the data into another website called Maps To GPX. This creates a GPX file which I drag to my "routes folder" and rename as day 1, day 2 and so on. I then transfer the GPX routes folder to my phone and use an app called "GPX Viewer" to open and follow my route files. There are lots of tutorials on RUclips on how to do this and other mobile app's but that's the one I use. Also...with your smartphone in Google maps you can download a map area for offline use when you have no 4g signal, I recommend this as a handy back up. For my Dartmoor Off road sections I use a good old map and compass and I plan my routes to the nearest roads. I have now started looking into "Komoot" for planning all my rides as offroad sections called be planned and synced up to your smartphone or GPS device. This seems to be the way forward now although you need to buy the maps, but from what I have heard and seen it's worth it. Hope this helps, Cheers Chris.
