  • After testing, it's really not worth the trouble. I always get encoding overload and am currently sticking with QSV x264
UPDATE: It looks like the 3rd method only works with driver 4314:
    www.intel.com/content/www/us/...
At first, I also ran into the problem of having to install Intel's Arc control center along with the graphics drivers, but it seems to work fine after uninstalling it.
1st Method - Old Intel driver:
    www.intel.com/content/www/us/...
    2nd Method - Secondary Monitor:
I had to restart my computer before the option would show up
    Use something like this: amzn.to/44ON5GU
(I've never tested this specific item, but this is what I'm talking about)
This an affiliate link which mean I get a small percent back off any sales made through the link. It doesn't cost you any extra, but it does help the channel out.
    3rd Method - OBS Plugin:
    github.com/ma3uk/obs-qsv-onev...
Make sure to overwrite the files

    0:00 Method 1 - Downgrade driver
    0:28 Method 2 - Secondary monitor
    1:16 Method 3 - OBS mod

Thank you! Saved me some headache with Method 3

Looks like the issue only affected Arc discrete GPUs, which wouldn't surprise me. QuickSync HEVC encoder was showing on OBS Studio 29.1.1 on my laptop IGPU (Iris Xe Graphics from 11th gen) with drivers version 4369 and all previous ones since native QSV HEVC support was implemented a few months ago. Just updated OBSS to 29.1.2 and so far so good, maybe driver 4369 might make the encoder reappear.

I just got a second monitor, (used to have one) and when i plugged it into my gpu and then opened obs, the hevc setting dissapeared, but when i plugged it into the motherboard it was there again, also works when i use only 1 monitor

Even when I select H264 for quick sync acceleration, I'm getting the HEVC error in Shudder video converter and DVD Fab. But Quick Sync works fine in Vegas Pro 19.

Hmm, sounds like a software support problem then

I think the author has deleted/changed it. Probably skip method 3

Do you have the obs qsv test exe by any chance? It isnt on the github anymore.
And still amazing this isnt fix after 5 months.

      Here, try this: drive.google.com/file/d/1nMkCz1uez4v1gGHZshv2eNQwIkYHGrk6/view?usp=sharing
I don't think this is the best method though. The one I've had the most success with is plugging something into the motherboard video port to enable the iGPU

@@SomethingAzn Thank you, yes, I was only to make it work via method 2.
Sadly, with my testing I figured out that H.265 QSV on a i5 13600k is too slow for 4k60, so I´ll just stick with QSV H.264 at a higher bitrate and then encode it to H.265 QSV via Handbrake. I might use it for livestreaming at lower resolutions though.

@@Rocky712_ Yeah, same. QSV H.265 also gave giant files sizes, so I either stick to QSV H.264 or NVENC

@@SomethingAzn That's not the fault of H.265 though. That only happens if you use different settings.
CQP level of 20 for H.264 is NOT comparable to level 20 for H.265. That's usually the biggest trap a lot of people fall into. H.265 *always* can achieve similiar results by roughly 50% less bitrate.
I think I'll go with AMD Hardware accelerated AV1 for now and then encode via Handbrake.

@@Rocky712_ I definitely think it’s Intel’s fault tho. Nvidia’s H.265 has much more reasonable file sizes
