Great vid Taetro, but you forgot to cover the Custom MIDI modes in detail, which are a GREAT addition to the LPX. They allow it to be used not only with Ableton, but also with Reaper, Bitwig, and any other DAW.... not everything is to be used with Ableton, exclusively, and I think Novation was trying to expand their userbase beyond Ableton users (for instance, I love using my LPX to control 4 simultaneous Groups in Maschine, so I have access to 64 drum sounds/samples, in addition to controlling a melodic instrument in the Note mode). As far as the LP Pro goes, the Quantize, Undo, Duplicate, Double, and Metronome buttons are insanely useful and worth spending the extra $50 on the LP Pro. The LPX is missing these, of course... but, you can create any CC message in the Custom mode to map them to certain functions of Ableton (MIDI map mode).... sadly, the only thing you can map is basically Metronome On/Off. Also it would have been nice to have a direct track select with the LPX (again, you can create CCs to learn track select). If Ableton had the accessibility that Reaper does (with its Actions List), it would really help expand its functionality with other MIDI controllers... that's the one thing I hate about Ableton. You should be able to at least map the Quantize function to a MIDI button. Small complaints... I own the LP Pro and the LPX, and love them both!
when you say CC message in the custom mode, what do you mean? you mentioned you can only map metronome, so I'm confused if you're talking about different ways of mapping
@@daveyrichards7229 CC messages as in CC127, CC41, CC74... anything like that (CCs can be a physical button assigned to a button in a DAW, or a CC can be a physical knob/encoder assigned to a DAW knob....) Ableton lets you midi-learn certain functions of the program, but not quantize. You can midi-map the metronome, and channel mutes/solos/arm... but no quantize, sadly. CC messages are usually more effective than midi notes, because CCs are "silent" when sending the message.
Are the pads on the Lanchpad X like the drum pads on the Launchkey Mini Mk3? The pads on the Pro seem a little squishy and less sensitive to me, but the Lanchkey Mini MK3 pads are very responsive (and hence I assume the X pads as well). I would almost consider buying an X for that alone. Regarding the DAW control buttons on the left for the PRO, the first time I used my Pro in Ableton Live, I was able to make a beat without touching Live at all. I was amazed at how intuitive and easy it was. Sadly, if the X can't do that as well, that is a big strike against it. Like you said, it's a choice people have to make. Thanks for the comparison!! But can you do the missing DAW like auto quantise with a short key on the computers keyboard? Or do you have to select the track you were recording manually with a mouse and then quantise?

Why launchpad X vs Launchpad pro? You can't compare launchpads that are completely different. I would understand if you were comparing launchpad X and launchpad PRO mk3.
LPX is better all the way. a) Better more sensitive pads b) NO buttons at the bottom which is a huge plus as they get in the way of finger drumming or any sort of live playing c) its way more compact and lighter d) fully programmable custom layouts. Don't even bother with old Pro.

Regarding the DAW control buttons on the left for the PRO, the first time I used my Pro in Ableton Live, I was able to make a beat without touching Live at all.
