  • The Cubs won their 81st game of the season last night with a 10-4 victory over the Phillies at Citizen's Bank Park. While the Cubs won't make the playoffs, that win officially means the Cubs will not have a losing record in 2024.
Cody Bellinger had a huge day at the plate, and both Michael Busch and Seiya Suzuki exited the game with an injury. Justin Steele started for the Cubs and ended his season with a 5-5 record and a 3.07 ERA.

Javier Assad (7-5, 3.34 ERA) vs Christopher Sanchez (11-9, 3.25 ERA)

Speaking of a logjam and needing to make room. On paper, I think the Cubs and Mariners line up well for a trade. Perhaps something built around Nico Hoerner (and prospects) for 1 of their SP (George Kirby/Logan Gilbert)? Matt Shaw then slots into 2B and the Cubs get a nice SP.

Whoever gave Happ that no trade clause needs to get fired, only super stars should get that. Whe have Owen Cassie, Shaw, Triantos someone needs to get traded this team offense sucks we have to many un clutch hitters.

I hope they plan on moving people this offseason. Primarily getting Suzuki to waive his NTC and moving him to the West. If Belli opts in, they eat salary and move him to a team that needs a 1B. Dude is too fragile for the outfield. I also think Parades is going to be forced to compete for that position this spring.

If Bellinger ops in, the only hope of seeing any prospects in ‘25 is if Hoerner and or Paredes are traded. Happ has a NT clause but I could see him waving it if Ross gets a managerial job.

🎶 "Steele the One" 👨‍🎤 (lol)
Yeah as long as he can stay healthy all year next year. A solid one-two punch with Shota and Justin all season long would make this frustrating cycle of mediocrity go away... In all likelihood.

Its best cubs cut bait with Hoyer.
It's goiing to be the same rethoric with hoyer....we have a good farm system, eye on the present and eye on the future and his infamous intelligent spending. ....Ricketts should be on the phone as we speak ,asking the phillies permission to talk to SAM FULD.

The Cubs did just fine without Steele in the first month. They were what? 17-8 in April with Steele on the IL the entire time. Sure it hurts to have him out but they blew 17 saves in the 1st half of the season. Pair that with managing 2-3 runs per game through May/June and that's where the real problem is. Hell, even with that terrible offensive stretch if they managed to convert even 7 more of those 17 they'd have 88 wins which would put them above the Mets and D Backs in the wild card.
Hoyers got a lot to prove this off-season. He really hasn't done much thus far that's positively effected the Cubs at the major league level.

The Cubs not bringing up some of the kids at the end is just more negligence by the front office. And if it’s because they didn’t want to pay them a little bit more to be on the roster, that’s just sad.

So tired about hearing about all these great prospects that haven't played an inning in MLB. There has to be a reason why they're still in AAA. Weve already seen what happens with some of them that are having great seasons in AAA.Just bring them all up next season and have another year of mediocre baseball. Great show guys

Cubs need more depth if they’re going to roll this same team out next year. Shaw and Cassie will get chances to play even if Bellinger ops in, cause injuries are going to happen. Cubs need to go get two legit Pitchers for the rotation, can’t count on Brown or Horton to be ready. Wisdom, Mastro and Madrigal are not good enough to fill in when a started goes down. In basketball, they have a sixth man of the year award for a reason.

Especially with Belli and Suzuki who each have missed at least month in the last 2 seasons, 3 for Suzuki.

To your points about not bringing the young guys up to see what they can do, that and everything else it's time to get rid of Jed Hoyer and Tom Ricketts!! Have Jeff Bezos purchase the team then have him make Craig Counsell the president of baseball operations!!
