Stop with the bull crap. The popularity of the WNBA is 100% about CC. The faster those in power realize this the better. The league HAS to protect her from the dirty play in the league.
The league doesn't have to protect her from the dirty play. The league needs to protect ALL players from dirty play. This is suppose to be the WNBA and not the WMMA! Even the WMMA doesn't allow long fingernails and eye gouging. The no call on fouls on CC was blatant. Not only did CC get a black eye, the WNBA got a black eye. We, the CC fans aren't gonna forget the bull crap they did to CC. And we aren't gonna watch the WNBA playoff games. The WNBA really F up.
Right-o. The Women's NCAA final outdrew the Men's. I wonder why? Was it the sudden popularity of women's basketball across the board? Why was women's basketball suddenly so popular? Will the 2025 Women's final draw more viewers than the men's? We'll see. I'm betting on no because Clark won't be in that game. Clark is the x-factor 100%. Which is why it is so dumbfounding that the WNBA has largely turned a blind eye to her. There seems to be little acknowledgement from WNBA headquarters that Caitlyn Clark alone has returned their product to relevancy. Add in the fact that many other players seem to have a heavy resentment that their job is still there because this phenom has brought eyeballs to screens and butts into seats. I find the style of play in the WNBA generally not the style of basketball I want to watch. The leaders of the league should consider why Caitlyn Clark is so popular and try to cultivate that image rather than just offering more of what they already had (which wasn't all the profitable, was it?). If they did this then they might build something sustainable. If not then people are going to continue to focus on games with Clark in them and to ignore the rest of the league.

Sooner, rather than later. CC brought the WNBA a gift of massive numbers of new fans. @@MDGmonroe I haven't seen much worse and well understand that physical contact is a natural outcome of the sport, but the contact should be incidental and not intentional. In my opinion some of the hits on Clark have been incidental, some are debatable, and some are very clearly excessive and intentional. I played organized basketball for a long time and have followed it on many levels for much longer, and I know the difference. Some fans of Clark may be new to the sport, but many of us are long-time basketball fans who have only recently paid attention to the WNBA. I believe that the "the WNBA is a physical league" trope is used as an excuse for some over-the-line aggression that does not belong in the game of basketball. @@MDGmonroe I get all this, but I think in the WNBA it crosses a line at times. There is a big difference between an intentional foul for strategic purposes, and targeting a player with hits that could have serious injury and even career consequences. It's somewhat infuriating when they keep adding names just to stop it being all about CC22. The huge increase in ticket sales, in television viewers, is nothing to do with Cam Brink, Rickea Jackson, even with Angel Rees (good though they may be). And it's nothing to do with perceived 'rivalries'. It's solely to do with Caitlin's rip-roaring style of play, which makes people jump out of their seat when she executes a logo 3 with no time at all and defenders only 2 feet away, it's her 80 foot passes dropping exactly in a team-mates hands and the bounce passes that are so swiftly executed and unexpected that the defenders are all 'WTF?', it's her drives to the rim where it looks impossible for her to score but then she manages to wriggle into a position where it ends up being a simple layup, it's her commanding presence as she comes down the court after an inbound, like a blitz chess player, looking for the strengths and weaknesses in front of her and sizing up the best opportunities to score. That's why millions of people are watching the W on TV and tens of thousands are buying tickets to games.
That is factual. When she hits a logo three endorphins release in my brain....Sorry Commish, nice try. People are watching now, clean up the thuggery. Do your job to protect your biggest asset.

Clark had a losing record against all three and with the 20-20 record I can't honestly place her ahead of the other three. Wilson had a monster season stat-wise but couldn't lead her team to beat Minnesota nor New York in the season series. These are the only four I could make a strong case for.

@@roee78so your point is what? Clark happens to have better skills. But other players chose drama and dirty tactics instead of elevating their game. When Jordan was celebrated in the NBA, I don't remember players talking negatively about him. You're right , basketball is a team sport. But you have to give credit where it's due. And the numbers of viewership and attendance proves it overwhelmingly. And CC is the main driver for this increase.
There were 45 sell outs last year. 154 this year. The most Clark could have had was 40. That leaves 114 games without Clark that sold out. Yes, she made a difference, but not the whole difference. The numbers don’t lie.
Well, some teams with smaller venues under 10,000 capacity. They can sell out pretty easily. Some of the Fever's opponents moved those games to bigger venues. There were 3 games with over 20,000 attendance. All three were Fever road games. There TV ratings were also the highest. So CC is bringing new fans and other teams are getting new fans as a result.
@Barto-p4k the Chicago Sky plays at the Wintrust Center. Its capacity is just over 10,000 seats. The Fever drew over 20,000 fans twice at Washington and once in Las Vegas.
No mention of 17% of the leagues flagrant fouls were committed against CC. They are quick to jump at a narrative of racism among new fans, but completely disregard the motivations of the players to cheap shot any chance they get the player who could actually make them rich. The WNBA despite this years massive success is still a business that lost 200 Million dollars this season. The Players currently have Profit sharing in their collective Bargaining Agreement just like the men, but there isn't anything to split at the end of the year. Imagine working any job for a company that loses that amount of money each year, and truly believing that you are grossly underpaid for your services. The WNBA is a picture perfect example of cultural disconnection with reality.
Here's more specifics on the flagrants: 17.6% (6 out of 34; was 35 but they later rescinded one of Taurasi's) were committed against Clark, and the next highest were 1 player who got flagrantly fouled 3 times and 2 players twice each. That's a big gap and pretty outrageous especially when Clark is not a dirty player and never says a bad thing about any player in the media (yes she talks some trash on court as do quite a few others, but usually Clark's is in response to someone else coming at her first).

It's gonna be hard because some are treating Caitlin poorly and they are coloring how everyone feels about the other players. I know right now I just want to watch Caitlin.
The commissioner explained it very well. What if Caitlin gets injured? What if Caitlin decided not to play in a league and just went out onto a basketball court alone? Would she be able to sell out arenas and merchandise in the same way as playing in this league? Of course not. You have to give the league and other players in it some credit. There are some really good players and some really good, positive role models for the kids. They showcased a few of them with Napheesa Collier and Aliyah Boston. That isn't to say that part of the problem with the WNBA is their connection to woke politics. Politics poisons anything it touches. When CC is on tv, the ratings break records. The rest of the wnba is in the same malaise it has always been in EXCEPT the extra eyeballs have exposed the fact that the players are petty, bitter, and unlikeable and that they have absolutely zero understanding of marketing and economics.
It's the "narrative" they have to walk, unfortunately. Saying it's by far mainly about CC would just draw more ire and hatred/racism from those certain WNBA players. We know who they are. That's why CC is always saying the right things even when she has to be really damn frustrated. 11:55 - Napheesa Collier gives a great answer here! Usually, the anti-equal pay critics use the argument that the women want the SAME AMOUNT as the men. Granted, in the past, the league wasn't making as much, so they weren't enjoying the same perks as the men. However, I think now that that has pivoted in their favor, charter flights, better hotels and such are coming. Now, hopefully, higher pay based on what the market will bear is on its way.
If a company is still losing money the market won’t bear anything. They still need the subsidy from the NBA. So if their income goes up it will be from the backs of the men working to give them free money.

wow really went deep into what happened this year in these reports. definitely not trying to shine any light on how awful the league treated CC . not a single person held accountable or questioned even the commissioner cant even give CC the praise she deserves. WNBA is bound to fumble this bag!
The reporter asked a good question to the Commissioner which is why whenever he brings up Clark the Commissioner says “the rookie class.” ESPN pushes the rookie class narrative as well and they’re wrong. If it’s to build rivalries, well the competition for Clark are the other 4 players who were top MVP voting/ 1st team All WNBA, specifically A’ja Wilson, Collier, Stewart. It’s not rookies. And you can’t overstate enough how Clark creates this. Her two NCAA tourney runs received record viewership - almost 19 mil the final in 2024 and about 14 mil the Iowa game against UConn. Those are NFL numbers- MLB, mens hoops no one else gets those. She got big numbers the year before too. And some of that did rub off on the WNBA. Clark’s getting good numbers in the WNBA too; her last playoff game got 2.5 million. But I’m not sure if the WNBA ever breaks a million viewers without her. If the league wants to set up rivalries, it should get off trying to compare her to other rookies and compare her with the other 1st team ALL WNBA players. The Fever are set up with a couple other all stars (Boston and Mitchell) to compete while the other rookies really don’t. Finally, If 60 minutes really wants to report on the sour grapes from other players/ former WNBA players about the attention Clark gets, it should also report that I’ve seen no reports that actual fans at games make inappropriate comments, hold up signs, whatever. It’s online trolls most of whom I bet don’t even watch the games. Alyssa Thomas said it’s the Fever fan base (on the night the sun ended the fever’s season) and she should apologize for painting way too broad a brush on the night their season ended. At the least, she should say thank you that Clark and her fans have generated the revenue where they don’t need to fly economy and stay at economy hotels anymore.
Let's be honest: No CC, nobody pays any attention to this rookie class and the WNBA would be continuing to play in obscurity and the chartered flights would have never happened.

Nah, the reason sole for WNBA popularity is Caitlin Clark. She is making it exciting to watch the W. Napheesa Collier and Angel Reese are very minor factors.
Normally the Rookies don't even make the team. They get drafted and they get cut, not even making a roster spot. This season you have a bunch of Rookies who not only found roles on the teams they were drafted by but they also made meaningful contributions and have new blood to a lot of franchises throughout the league. CC is the lead but the fact that the rest of the class isn't just fading away after a season is what the story is hinting at but not clearly stating. The W is brutal
Theres a reason they chose to talk to clark, they know this too but they wanna gaslight us. If they were talking to angel reese i wouldn't even know the interview ever happened because my amount of give a damn would be too low to mention
@@AerialPenn Angel Reese would have fallen into obscurity but her coach kept her relevant by doing everything possible even hindering the rest of the players to get her those double doubles and the real loser in that was Kamilla Cardoso because she never got a chance to shine they just kept feeding the ball to reese for the stat padding despite her missing shots CONTINUOUSLY and that coach has now been fired and thats most likely the cause they looked playoff-bound and then they fed reese the ball more and she missed more and more.

Now that she’s out and Cameron is out, got no reason to tune in, till next season.
I never watched WNBA before CC, mostly because the games were boring. There's no reason for me to watch next season since the league is apparently very comfortable going back to mediocre.
Unfortunately the commissioner still doesn’t understand why people are watching. Until she realizes why, they will continue not to profit. When Bird and Magic came into the league and the league realized what they were doing you know what the league did? They sold Bird and Magic to the country. That’s what needs to be done with Clark. No offense to Collier, Wilson, Sabrina, Taurasi, or any of the rookies the commissioner mentioned nobody is traveling and watching on TV for any of them. They watch and travel for Clark. Once they all accept that they can hop on the coattails and enjoy the ride.
What is she supposed to say out loud in the 60 minutes interview? She's using this unprecedented exposure to try to promote the other players as well. It's the playoffs, she hopes to draw as much attention as possible to the other players, hoping that something sticks. Then next season she can promote CC as you said. If she goes on 60 minutes and says CC is the only reason you should watch the league, she pisses all the players off, makes the league look weak because it stands on one player (not 2 like Magic and Bird/Lakers and Celtics), and now that CC is out, she'd be telling everyone there is no valid reason to watch the playoffs anymore.

No, it's only Caitlin Clark. Don't perpetuate this false narrative. It's actually worse, as this sudden exposure showed to all the new fans that this league, their players, coaches, refs were simply not ready for the spotlight. Their prevailing conduct is crude, petty, entitled, unprofessional and off-putting. Either they'll adapt or the ratings will plummet back down.
As someone who had followed the W closely this year, I'd like to challenge two narratives. One is that racism against black players is happening. Crying racism with zero proof is the latest tactic to discredit Clark and the new fans. Jealousy is a helluva drug. Two is the commissioner insisting on putting three other rookies in the "growing the league" conversation. Sorry ma'am but no one knows who those people are. They did not sell tickets and anyone who looks at the actual numbers knows the truth.
Claims there’s “zero proof”. Players say exactly what happens to them, which you weren’t there for, so you just claim it didn’t happen and there’s no proof.
"One is that racism against black players is happening." By a few trolls on the internet. The real racism we've seen in spades, this year, has been institutional anti-white racism, specifically directed at Clark. We've seen it from players, the Media, and more subtly, from coaches and the league. We've seen no open racism against black players. We've seen lots against Clark, and without apology. Much of what some black players are complaining about is push-back from fans against the blatant attacks directed at Clark.
I find the style of play in the WNBA generally not the style of basketball I want to watch. @johncardenas2264 I still haven't seen a wnba game, but I'll check highlights on cc from time to time.
Clark and Collier are class acts
There are a few of them in the League - Collier, Aliya Boston, Cameron Brink, Arike Ogunbowale, lots more - but they seem drowned out by the ones who aren't. And the ones who aren't have been the dominant clique in the WNBA, for years. The toxic ones set the tone, and they're the ones the League office unwisely supports.
WNBA is NOTHING without Caitlyn. Game is boring without CC. Good try 60 minutes.
CC is the ONLY reason the “W” will actually turn a profit for the 1st time EVER.

Caitlin Clark isn’t enough for the WNBA to actually turn a profit. People largely still don’t care about the WNBA.
CC is a good start but they will need a lot more to turn a profit.
Arrival walk 🙄👎
I didn’t watch this live because I knew from the intro that 60 Minutes was going to gaslight us with the Cathy Engelbert party line that it is “league growth” and a product of the “rookie class.” When CC is in the building, it’s full everywhere in the wnba, no matter how large the building. When CC is on tv, the ratings break records. The rest of the wnba is in the same malaise it has always been in EXCEPT the extra eyeballs have exposed the fact that the players are petty, bitter, and unlikeable and that they have absolutely zero understanding of marketing and economics.
Yes that's exactly what the clip was 😂
It's the "narrative" they have to walk, unfortunately. Saying it's by far mainly about CC would just draw more ire and hatred/racism from those certain WNBA players. We know who they are. That's why CC is always saying the right things even when she has to be really damn frustrated. (refs, cheap, nasty fouls, etc.) For her to go off won't do her a bit of good and she's smart enough and strong willed enough to know that.

11:55 - Napheesa Collier gives a great answer here! Usually, the anti-equal pay critics use the argument that the women want the SAME AMOUNT as the men. However, clarifying that the WNBA and other female athletes are just hoping to be paid according to the value that the market will bear is important. Granted, in the past, the league wasn't making as much, so they weren't enjoying the same perks as the men. However, I think now that that has pivoted in their favor, charter flights, better hotels and such are coming. Now, hopefully, higher pay based on what the market will bear is on its way.
The league has not had $1 of profit in 27 years. What money do they want a part of ?
Things should increase now that numbers are up
If a company is still losing money the market won’t bear anything.

Make NO MISTAKE WHY 60 MINUTES!!!! Don’t gaslight with “rookie class”.
No CC no 60 min.

I love and makes me sad at the same time how she keeps uplifting other players, keeps the interview professional, and how she look up too to the other players when she was small, but yet the WMBA didn’t fully appreciated her when she arrived. Now that she’s out and Cameron is out, got no reason to tune in, till next season.
I agree! Same here until next season
She understands completely! She's doing her masters bidding by towing the party line....pathetic
What? She literally ducked all of the online Nazis to pump CC up. To the point where the Union was like, hey, wtf!?

No, it's only Caitlin Clark.
Don't perpetuate this false narrative.
It's actually worse, as this sudden exposure showed to all the new fans that this league, their players, coaches, refs were simply not ready for the spotlight. Their prevailing conduct is crude, petty, entitled, unprofessional and off-putting.
Either they'll adapt or the ratings will plummet back down.
Commishs opinions like her watch ⌚️ is....off. it's CC22, just be honest and embrace it.
It's true. It's 90 percent Caitlin. Maybe more. What's wrong with admitting that? She's a transcendent figure in sports.
@@Not_a_smart_manNo, it’s that we’ve live through Tawana Brawley, Jussie Smollett and Duke lacrosse, and have learned.
The toxic WNBA isn't used to having people call them on their toxic behavior. They're used their few followers letting them get away with it.
