      I'm 5'11 and my wife is 5'4. The way my wife was sometimes pushing my son in practice and training was crazy. I asked her if she was trying to create an NBA product and had to tone her down. Told her that we have a better chance at developing an engineer or carpenter or well-off businessman. Told her that he'll play multiple sports, and when he gets older, he would be able to pursue the one he loves the most. The chances of making it to the professional level in any sport is less than one percent. Doesn't mean we won't strive for greatness, but genetics is God-given.

      @@SJcookiemonstermost definitely height is a major factor in basketball. The average WNBA player is 5'4''; with Ms. Newman's height being 5'2, she will be at a significant disadvantage when trying to create shots for herself. Her Jody and ball handing skills are very good, but she would need that height if she needs to elevate over a person to make a shot. Many humans have similar height potentials what causes a lot of variation is how we're raised. There's a reason that Asians and Hispanics can come to the US and suddenly have kids that are almost a foot taller than both parents. Access to food and especially high protein foods and no physical labor without recovery has become very common in the US and many other western countries. On another note I had a Ukrainian coworker who is around 5'6 and his wife is slightly shorter. His sons are a little over 6' and his daughter are a little under that and yes they're his kids. What happened? He got a high paying SWE job and they're essentially upper class with a diet and other luxuries to match. He grew up often having to share a plate with his siblings.

      @fadsa342 2 месяца назад

      If your son is grown how tall is he? In the US especially we're seeing some of the height gap closing as more people get food assistance and access to credit. Sure there are genetic outliers but many people have similar height potentials. Problem is that historically most people have been poor and either didn't get enough to eat as kids or ate a filling but carb heavy diet. It's one of the reasons that in the US we're seeing hispanic kids towering over their parents or that it's not uncommon to find kids from poorer areas who grew up on social welfare exceeding average height. Or why women who have kids with tall men but can't afford a middle class life have kids that are shorter and in some cases significantly shorter than their dads.
