song hits hard like a hot summer sunrise, sky is between orange, pink and yellow, the birds starting to chirp, and stars are still seen... and you are rethinking your whole life. dang i miss when i discovered this song.
When I was in high school my dad would do the same thing. Sit there in his recliner, drunk off his ass and hating the world. I would come home and see the light on in the living room and think to myself I don't even want to go inside. Then I'd try to rush past him upstairs and he would ALWAYS call me back to give me a lecture and he was just so mad and wanted me to feel afraid of him and like there was no hope that life could be better. Bruce knows and I bet many of you here know.
Thank you America for giving the world such a gem of an artist. There will never be someone like Bruce, that passion, those performances... so authentic. Sadly, my friends don’t share my enthusiasm for him, they find his music old (I’m a 20 yo from Spain), but the truth is that nowadays you won’t find a single artist as devoted to his music and his listeners as Bruce Springsteen. I’ll always be thankful to my dad for making me love him, for treasuring his art for decades, and although I’ll never get to see him at his peak like my dad did back in the 80s in those Madrid and Barcelona concerts, I know there will only be one Boss, and his name is Bruce Springsteen.
hey I'm a fellow 20 something here. My dad introduced me to Bruce, said that he was called The Boss. I didnt like him much when I was a kid, but somewhere in my teens I discovered him again. God I'm so thankful for such a talented man like Bruce- he really is such a fine piece of art. yep, and just like you buddy I will never get to see him live
Some intro, heh..? Lots of our dads were like his. Spent their lives workin' hard, takin' care of us, and no doubt thinkin' of all the things they'd never have over that last beer in the glow of the evening. Thanks, pops. Hope I made you proud. Now I'm in my own windin' down years, realizing my limits, savorin' my favorite brew in the twilight. Wondering how my son remembers those years when I was raisin' him. Keeping him warm & safe & dry. Did I teach him well? Do the best a father can? I trust I did. I trust he learned. Indeed, he makes me very proud. Here's to you, son. 🍺 Dare to dream. Dare to do. With love. Always, Pops

Never seen an artist introduce a song like this live ever in my life. This is pure magic. The speech, the ethereal music in the back, his gestures. Just everything about the performance. Amazing.
I know there's a lot of great singers but i too have never seen one better than Bruce live, in his prime like this video he is totally connected to his music. He's so passionate and just amazing.
John Smith "I remember, growing up, at night and my dad would sit in the kitchen with all the lights out and he'd wait for me to come in and he'd sit there and drink, and I'd stand in the driveway and I'd look into the screen door and I could see the light of his cigarette. and then I'd rush up on the porch and try to sneak by him and he would always call me back, and I was lucky he was always ahead of me and hes sitting there thinking about all the things he was never gonna have untill he got me thinking like that too. and I'd lay up in my bed at night and I'm staring at the ceiling and feel like there's something to do, something he was telling me that someday I was just gonna... My dad passed away a few months ago. The intro to this song makes me cry every time I hear it. (I’m 40) I remember the same damn thing about coming in the house as a teenager and being “lectured” due to exactly how Bruce explains it. Never beaten, never abused .. but still nervous as a 15-18 yr old as I am now as man with two young sons myself. “Makes me wanna huhhh!” Never again ol man. I’m changing this. I have changed this.
Authenticity. Ya'know, that's what sells. Bruce is brilliant here. God how I miss the 80's. As a matter of fact I miss all things old, it reminds me of what was. What's now is so unimportant. Thing is, I wanna roll back, or somehow adjust. Can't seem to accept current times. Everything is so alien. I don't like myself and I don't like who I've become. The world is just brutal. I miss old times. You know what I mean...
There's still people like that out there & you have still got it inside you dear stranger. Just gotta find some more things out there that resonate with that. I hope you find it!
I remember, growing up, at night, and my dad would sit in the kitchen with all the lights out and he waited for me to come in, and he'd sit there and drink, and I'd stand in the driveway and I'd look into his screen door, and I could see the light of a cigarette, and then I'd rush up on the porch and try to get by him, but he'd always call me back. And it was like he was always... Always angry. Always mad. He'd be sitting there thinking about everything that he was never gonna have, until... Until he'd get me thinking like that too. And I'd lay up in my bed, at night, and be staring at the ceiling, and I'd feel like if something didn't happen, if something didn't happen soon, it felt like I was just gonna... Like some day, like I was just gonna...
DizzyLola makes this rendition so insanely better than the others. Even tho the content of the song in my eyes is different than the point he is making. When you think of the singer as someone who has been thru that kinda thing... the passion becomes more intense than originally. It makes perfect sense. This song will always be on the list for me.
I love the repeating guitar rhythm, like a train going down the tracks... "a freight train running through my head." Bruce is the Boss, the God, the King of Rock
That bit at 1:56, just before the music starts, is the perfect description of how you feel when you're wanting someone so badly. And the next second this wonderful tune comes up and you're like "OMG I'm gonna burst..."
i never want my son to ever be scared of coming home, he is my best friend at five years old and will always be my best friend for life, this song is the best version of I'm on fire that I've ever heard. magical stuff brucey baby
This is the only song i haven't heard live from Bruce, out of all the songs i want to hear. Last time he was in sweden, i almost cried when he played Jungle Land and The River. But we got 3 awesome concerts where he played almost all big hits.

All his songs I’ve grown up with from the time he first started playing. He’s like an old friend meeting me time after time reminding me of what we’ve both been through in life.
Talking about his dad, validated why he’s awesome...he’s authentic and so incredibly human, but, he feels love from his soul before it even touches his heart. These are the misunderstood, usually...Bruce found beauty in pain & used it to heal himself and others. A hero to humanity in a certain sense.
I lived that disappointing life through drugs and alcohol. But Not no more. I'm living my best life ever clean, sober and no cigarettes. And grounded with my higher power Jesus Christ , King of Kings.

He's dialogue before the song was amazing. He just speaks he's mind, and tells a story so convincingly. I really like that he shared that.
I second that. What a great version.
Chinaski no doubt in my mind bud. I believe he spoke from the heart.
If you read his book, you know that he spoke from the heart, it is a sad but true story :-(.

@@ryancook6452 thank you. Exactly, the audio is pretty bad. But i still cant wrap my head around this. What is this about?
Had this song on repeat for 8 hours at work one day. It was an easy 8.
Intro defines what made Bruce and the decade of the 1980s so unique and magical.
There would be a poor world without this great songwriter. What a song!!!
I love the way he stands. He's definitely The Boss.

I feel the same way about the 70's. My life was exactly like that movie "Dazed and Confused". Good times. Not so much stress and fear in the world.
