  • I have been running AMP Research PowerSteps for 4 years now. I had the original PowerSteps for just over 2 years, then upgraded to the AMP Research PowerStep EXTREME version for about the last two years. I absolutely love these steps and would highly recommend them.

Bought my truck new on 07. 2500 5.9 quad laramie 4x4. I put the original amp steps on in 2009 and have been running them ever since with no trouble until this past year. (The same steps. No repairs. No upgrades.) Currently 260k miles. First issue I had was the wires in the door harness broke. Now the passenger side step stopped working. After 12 years I'd say I got my money out of them.

I build custom trucks and I live in Cincinnati Ohio so we have a lot of freezing wet and freezing weather from October to May. I personally am happy that AMP came out with the extreme steps because I have had two sets of AMP basic power steps and in my climate alone because I build show trucks more so and never go off-road and the two sets I had only lasted 2 years and had to replace the motor because they leaked and ruined the motors. I used spitters on my ob2 port with no problem but my current truck this time I didn’t go with AMP this time because of the price extreme XL price is crazy! I have a 9” lift with 38x 15.50r24 wheel and tires. I went with a off-road extreme from Rough Country for less than half the cost of AMP extreme. I would never go with a factory set either I have been there and done that too! When Ford or Chevy add custom built trucks like Rocky Ridge they also don’t use their factory powered steps they use AMP. I do not recommend AMP FOR THE COST FOR THE EXTREME!

Good reviews! You answered a lot of my questions about snow, icing and AZ mud! I live in AZ and go off roading so dust and mud was a concern, and then Icing up when we are in snow country.
My wife has a disability and it has progressed so I need to change the steps on my truck to something that drops lower so she can more easily get in and out. I think the XL is going to be perfect.
Thank you again for the long term review!

You could have ordered steps for a crew cab and use a chop saw with a blade for aluminum (it has more teeth) that will cut them down without chipping them.

I recently ordered the set for the 2007 Gen2 Tundra… for my 2004 Gen1 Tundra
I knew they aren’t meant for my year going into it, I’m working with a local fabricator to make an adapter plate so they will be in the correct orientation.
Im excited to get the whole thing set up, hopefully sooner than later; good to know that there *~shouldn’t~* be any significant issues in the long run
Gen1 Tundra isn’t exactly a tall step into in the first place, but I’m short and am about to slap a 4 1/2” suspension lift on him, so with that kit installed, these steps will make things a little better than they were before any lift was applied
    Looking forward to it

We have a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road. It has factory running boards, but they are right up against the bottom of the cab of the truck. They're kind of worthless. We are looking at a running board that is lower to the ground and then tucks up against the rocker panels when driving.
I am NOT mechanically inclined at all so I would need someone to install them for me
