    The Sony 27 inch looked the business in tate I thought! You got some serious flatscreens and I like the ghetto woodwork reminds me of my own setup which has probably too much wood going on, I gotta rack that shit somehow.

    Its been really dry on CRTs in my local area here for going on 6 months now. Only ones that ever usually pop up are small 13 inch RF only, or A/V + RF only small cheap CRTs where they are asking for way too much money. I guess if you want a nice option you really do have to do a road trip for the day.

    Making me want to get back on the hunt! I had the worst luck with geometry on flat tubes so I gave up. I have a 32in jvc that has been my main for a year or two. S-video looks better on it than the fv300 I had for a short while. But component on the fv300 was nuts! And the geometry was decent for a flat panel. Maybe I'll start keeping an eye on craig's list again..

    Nice setup! Been getting back into grabbing CRTs again to connect all my older consoles. I have 5 now. 3 Trinitrons 36/32/27 inch. A nice 27 inch Toshiba. And a JVC D’Art 20inch for my Tate setup. Nothing beats a good CRT for retro gaming. Especially when connected to component. Been watching CRTcade on RUclips for years and always loved his setups. Wanted one for myself. Started looking around for other people who have similar setups cause I wanted to see what other ways people setup their CRTs. Ran into your channel. Lots of cool ideas I’ve learned watching your channel. Here’s my temporary setup until I finish building my dedicated gameroom.

    I got one of those Toshibas it’s very nice, but sadly from a smokers house. I plan to clean the hell out of it. I was also thinking of spray painting it a candy white color. Any advice to spray painting a crt? I’m assuming it’s an ABS plastic. Just sand it and spray paint it?

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804  Год назад +1

      I never done it. I would get some high quality gloss black paint and use a paint sprayer so you don't get any runs. I would not sand it. Do a couple of layers so it takes awhile for it to chip off. Would be cool for a youtube vid. I've thought about it but never seen it done.
      I've picked up a couple smoker crts. Blow them out and they are fine. If you don't have a blower use a paint brush.

      Can you use vlc media player? That's my preferred method with my crts. You can crop the image 10 different ways. I usually crop it 16:10 or 16:9 for wide-screen movies. 4:3 cuts too much off.

    Hey Riggel, if I gently lay a CRT face down in the back of my SUV, just to transport it home, is there any risk? I just dont want it to fall down since i dont have any rope or bungees to fasten it in place.

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804  2 года назад

      That's a good way to transport it. Put a blanket down first and lay the crt glass side down on the blanket. If it's a flatscreen you will be fine. If it's a bubble tube it's a little harder to do without cracking the glass.
      I always use tie downs and just sit it on it's but in my hatchback.

    • @justsayin4632
      @justsayin4632 Год назад +1

      @@oliverpuhp8287 For CRT’s, I’m a Sony snob, but there’s lots of good brands in the space (so long as the tv has component inputs). I currently have a 36” Sony XBR for the majority of 240p content. I just picked up a 27” Sony CRT that is now my dedicated vertical shooter screen (it lives on its left side).
      All pre-Dreamcast consoles are using Scart cables, going to a gscart switch, which then goes to a retrotink RGB2COMPONENT.
      My setup gets a little unique after this as most would then go straight to the CRT (which is what you should do). But I wanted to be able to do direct comparisons on lag (and other general tests) against LCDs. So I then have a component switcher with 6 inputs and dual outputs that can send the same input to two monitors, or two DIFFERENT inputs to two monitors. So I can do 240p test suite lag tests on any LCDs I have, as well as run everything from Dreamcast to Wii (the native component cable consoles) thru the component switch as well. That way for those weird DC-to-Wii consoles that had a lot of content that spanned everything from 240p all the way up to 720p (and even 1080i), I’ll always have have either a CRT or LCD that can handle whatever I need it to. No wire switching needed.
      But a normal dedicated CRT setup would end at the RGB2COMPONENT converter step above.👍🏽 You could also forgo the scart switch if you don’t mind swapping scart cables as needed (or won’t have that many consoles). The scart switch IS the most expensive piece in this chain by a long shot.
      The Wii Virtual Console games in 240p mode on a CRT via component is amazing. Definitely equal to original hardware if it’s done right.
