I have this razor and love it. I bought it at a Walgreens in Hawaii last year on a whim and it is one of my favorites. We got a guy in the office to start wet shaving and this was his first razor and he loves it too.
At 22 years old, short of 23 I finally went ahead and picked up this little bad boy from my local pharmacy and gave it a try, 3 passes(last was against the grain), and it’s so cool how much less irritation I have using this compared to using cartridges. It took a while tho, esp the third pass haha. I think the majority of the irritation I have rn is quz I prob got a bit greedy to make sure it gets baby smooth. But I’m proud of myself for figureing it out pretty damn well for my first try, since I’ve watched a lot of ur videos and others to prepare
Definitely less irritation than cartridges. I'm switching from a 3 blade cartridge because I didn't know a 3 blade razor can cut hair beneath the skin and lead to ingrown hairs. Have you continued to like it?
Recently bought this as a beginner safety razor after seeing your review, actually works pretty great! Especially compared to the Gillette fusions I was using before this. Keep the videos coming brother!
bought this razor a couple of weeks ago since its the only de razor available in pharmacys in the netherlands, really liking it so far(and only 15 euro/18 dollars here)
I'm a father of a wonderful small boy, and I've already bought this safety razor to keep it for him until he needs it. I don't expect that King C. Gillette DE safety razor will still be produced in a few years' time. It'd be a pity to miss it. I don't like the Gillette company, but I love this razor they produce. It's an extremely charismatic, all-purpose, top quality shaving instrument.
Every razor I used would give me harsh razor burn on my neck.. but I didn't give up I found this in sainsburys (British supermarket) i use it everyday due to my job I get zero burns or rashes
I just picked one up from my local Walmart as my Van Der Hagen razor was starting to fail on me. It shaved my almost two day stubble off with no issues what so ever, no knicks or razor burns, and it was my first time using a 3 peice
im a recent convert to DE shaving i really enjoyed this video - looking at various channels of shaving some of the kit can get quite expensive but there is lots of decent stuff out there reasonably priced - i bought this razor you featured for the equivalent to about 18 dollars i have wilkinson sword and arko soap and a badger brush that i bought in a chemist for 10Euro im really enjoying shaving again
This is the first safety razor I ever bought and had no idea how to use it. I was going to go back to cartridge but seeing how you used it I definitely did it wrong and will try again with the products you used. 3 years later and your video is still very helpful!
Just finished my very first safety razor shave with this razor. Really really liked it, I had a death grip on it because it feels like it would slip, maybe I was just intimidated. Looking forward to the next shave!
Just tried their blade in a Van Der Hogen DE razor (it's all I got) & WOW! Such a huge difference, blade definitely has more bite to it, resulting in fewer passes & less irritation.
I bought this razor recently as my first DE razor from Walmart for $25, I really like it and I just got a sample pack of different brands of blades to try. The only 'issue' I have with the razor is your fingers can slide on the design on the handle, but if you keep your hands dry I found it's no issue (When I bought this razor it was $25 on Walmart online but $30 in store but you can ask them to price check with online to save) Edit: I forgot to mention that I dont do a full shave, I just line up my beard on the top and bottom. 👌🏼
Got mine brand new for 7.50 at a salvage store! Couldn't pass up on the deal. First safety razor and I really love how it feels shaving and how close it gets
I’ve been using this razor for several months now. It is one of my favorites. I need a gentle razor and this one has proven to be perfect. Like you, I prefer three passes and this razor allows me to do that without incurring any irritation. Have a great shave! 🪒
Not in my opinion. Using a single blade reduces ingrown hairs and razor burn. When you shave in passes, you should first shave with the grain, then across the grain, and finally against the grain (if your face can tolerate it).
Thanks for the review! I'm 19 and wanted to get into safety razors because they just seem really cool and the history interests me. Plus the fact that it is more cost efficient and gets a closer shave. This is my first SR and I can't wait to try it.
I've been using a DE shaver that I bought on amazon for very little money (I want to say less than 20 bucks) for about five years now. It's been perfect for me. I can even do completely dry trims on the cheeks just to edge up a bit with no problems. The very best part though, is that I HAVE NEVER CHANGED BLADES. If you open the thing up, take the razor out, rinse it and dry it completely the blade won't go bad. FIVE YEARS on a 20 dollar setup. That's an incredible value! Stop listening to the big corps that want to bleed you dry and start being responsible to yourself and your environment. Completely recommend.
I ordered this for 11 bucks on amazon last week. It's my first safety razor so I don't know anything about quality but pleasantly surprised to see that it is highly regarded! Super happy with my purchase!
I was eager to try a safety razor for the first time in 43 years of wet shaving. Always shaved with cartridge razors. So I went to the drugstore here in the Netherlands and I bought the last King C Gillette and I got a 50% discount. so I paid $7,60. I shave for a week now, and I like it. I noticed I need to be more careful then the normal Mach III or Fusion. It is all in how good the Lather is also. I thought I needed a better more mild Razor like a Muhle R89. But seeing your video here. I see that the Gillette is already a decent one to shave with. . Thanks!
razor+5blades was probably around $20, a package of 10 blades where around $10 seems kind of pricey, but i got 2 packages of each. don't usually see safety razor stuff locally so went for it. blades can get a lot cheaper online though and it's still cheap compared to fusion cartridges.
I started wet shaving with a DE safety razor on May 22 2021 and I like how it feels. I’m currently shaving with a Wilkson Sword DE Razor. But I’m thinking about buying myself a King C Gillette. Thank you SinatraLennon you got me into wet shaving.
I really like this razor. Bought it a couple of months ago it worked very well. It's easy to use, and I really liked the amount of control I have with it. Definitely a good product. Especially for the price. I got it for 15 bucks on sale.
I like the blade overhang, you only need to screw hard enough to keep the razor in place firmly and anything extra is just doing damage to the screw and the cap, the sides being uncomfortable to hold means I will never overtighten it, never needed a towel for it. It's probably not that big of a deal, but it seems like at least partially it is made of Zamak so can't be too safe with screwing, as if you scrape off the surface of chromium, it might corrode entire thing.
2:35 The great Dictaor incomming. That made me laugh for straight 5 minutes. Thank you for that. Edit: I watched the full video, and I like your spirit. What a chill guy you must be. Keep up the great videos.
I got this razor today for a crisp 13 bucks at a Lockal drug store. I was really stoked on buying it because I really wanted to try these kinds of razors, and boy, I couldn't be happier.
I purchased one of these last year when they first came out, and still use it occasionally. Decent razor, reasonably priced, provides a good enough shave... It’s nothing too special, but I do agree with your assessment. The KCG is worth every bit of $20.
Walgreens near me has them on clearance for just $9 rn, definitely gonna pick one up, maybe even a second for my dad! seems like the handle style sort of emulates a modern cartridge one, like the labs (non heated).
I just got back from Walgreens with this razor & shaved with it for the 1st time using canned Barbasol. For the price I was impressed. Not BBS but then I was using one of the blades that came with it & was not too happy with it. Next shave I’ll try a Feather or an Astra SP.
After years of using electrics i saw your review and decided to try a DE razor and im very happy with it , smooth and no irritation at all. Good informative video . Thanks
For those who are wondering about the blades, those are re-branded Gillette Platinum that have the same color packaging as the Gillette Silver Blue blades.
great video, been using multi blade razors for a couple years now but finally starting to get some thick hairs around the face, thinking of trying this one out for my first safety razor
I prefer the Wilkinson Sword razor over that one because the top conveniently opens when you change blades as with this one you have to take it apart to change them!.
Arrived this week in Canada at Wallamart at $39.99 Canadian... To much money but that the price lol in Montreal, Province of Quebec .... follow you... see you on next video , Happy shave!
Thank you for your video! I came across this razor on amazon and though, why not let's try it, just ordered it. Thanks for the detaied reciew and the insides into the razor, really enjoyed every bit of it. Have a nice day!
Thank you for the great video! You could talk about anything and its makes my day so much better. Ive been looking at vintage razors on etsy and I didnt realize how many razors have been made! Looking forward for any future videos with you trying some more vintage razors out :)
If you’re interested in vintage Gillettes, you must have a Fatboy, not because of the hype around it, but because of why there is so much hype around it. It’s undeniably one of the best razors ever made. Also look at the open comb Sheridans. Both provide an amazing shave. And BTW, The Sheridan is no where near as aggressive as some make it out to be. Not sure I would even call it aggressive. Two of my favorites.
i got this razor last year and the blades the came with it, were the most mildest ive ever used along with an already super mild razor lol it works good with a feather though
Hi Mr Shaving Lennon. I've just bought it for £12.99 (UK). I has just started to use DE razor shaving. This does not cut me and gives a good shave. For a beginner it's a very good razor to use. The good thing is it will shave me a lot of money in the long run.
Bought this little number for my girlfriend as I have been using DE razors for a couple of years. She asked me to help her find a DE razor to try out as she was getting irritation when shaving her legs, but she didn't wanna spend much incase she didn't like it. Suffice to say she loves this little razor and for the £10 i picked it up for, its a steal. Much cheaper than cartridge razors, and better for the environment too!
@@SinatraLennon I used it last night after a nice shower, paired with a derby extra premium blade. It got the job done, and I've been told it feels as smooth as a baby's bottom 👍😂
Hello good sir. I did not close shave for about 10 years. I do not like Mach 3 stuff so I am interesting in safety razors now. Only two available currently in the town are King C Gillette and Wilkinson sword. Wilkinson is for about 5 $ more expensive and that is not a big deal. Willkinson seems more ergonomic then Gillette, you praised both. I know you said you have bad memory but I would appreaciate if you can say which one would you choose if those two are only two safety razors in the world. Thank you.
I am happy that Gillette's getting back into DE razors. I am happy with what I have. Works fine. This would be great 4 a 1st DE razor. Thx 4 good review LS!
Been wondering how many pieces there were to the king c I was dreading it might be another awkward 2 piece but thanks to this informative demo I’m relieved it is not a 2 piece because I’ve just ordered one
This is the only handle that I can shave my head with without nicking or cutting myself too much. I have a couple of Super Speeds and a Black Beauty, but even those aren't mild enough for what my head needs. This combined with some sharp blades (Astra SP or Feather) works so well and it's only 15 euros in Germany.
Thanks man! I liked this video a lot. I was looking to get my first razor and went to youtube for advice cause i cant really ask anyone else. Thanks for helping me get my first razor!
Just picked it up from Walgreens. Took a shower and used it right after. As someone who struggles with ingrown hairs, this razor along with the clear shaving gel might just be my saving grace 😭😭 It cuts so dang smooth.
The blades should give you about 5 good shaves before they start to get dull. It's not recommended to sharpen them though since the metal can become jagged and scrape you. The blades are also dirt cheap so replacing them is the way to go.
I tried this razor today and it was a waste of money, if its not an aggresive shave its a hassle and I don't really enjoy, I like my parker butterfly razor, but i wanna try the feather blades
I can get a pretty good shave from the King C Gillette safety razor, but I always have trouble shaving the corners of my jaw without irritation. It's cause I have to go over it so many times cause it's a tight spot.
I used one of these Gillette Safety Razors for about 3 years. I've since replaced it with a generic high quality model off aliexpress. My gillette had a misaligned blade holder, every time I would place in a new blade I had to make sure the blade was perfectly aligned otherwise one of the edges would be more forward than the other or both edges would have a corner out, My new one aligns it way better than the gillette but it's still a great razor. There are better models out there for cheaper however.
ive only used cartridge razors and i found this safety razor second hand in mint condition for 10 bucks. hope it was worth the buy, im waiting for it to arrive
I had to do a little digging on my dad's Gillette safety razor, but apparently it's a 1961 Blue Star safety razor (I've seen a few others saying "Lady" and not so I don't know which one is right). He'd had this thing for...Long as I can remember so I wouldn't be surprised if that's when he originally got it.
Have you ever used parts and pieces of razors to build one you like? You have inspired me to use a safety razor. 61 years old and I never knew how to properly shave. Sad I remember my father and grandfathers shaving with a safety razor, but when I started the twin blade had come to the market.
My first proper DE razor after the Wilkinson plastic one. I like it alot and in Italy you can find it for cheap...12,90 euros. For that price it feel like it"s a steal.

Im gonna buy it as my first DE razor, so excited😍
great video, been using multi blade razors for a couple years now but finally starting to get some thick hairs around the face, thinking of trying this one out for my first safety razor
Seen it at Walmart here in Canada too at same price . I passed on it. Not really into $40 mild razors.
Thank you for your video! I came across this razor on amazon and though, why not let's try it, just ordered it. Thanks for the detaied reciew and the insides into the razor, really enjoyed every bit of it. Have a nice day!
Finally listened to my offer, thanks 😊
I love the weight of it and it works well but my only real complaint is the grip texture causes it to spin a little when my hands are wet
Wilkinson sword has a shavette. I found it in my local drugstore and I'm excited to try it to see how well it shaves compared to my Parker shavette.
Thank you for the great video! You could talk about anything and its makes my day so much better. Ive been looking at vintage razors on etsy and I didnt realize how many razors have been made! Looking forward for any future videos with you trying some more vintage razors out :)
There are so many old razors to choose from, right?! Take your time and choose a really nice one. They are out there to be had, for sure.
@SinatraLennon i've seen King C Gilette in walgreens. they have the trimmer, razor, beard oil.
Attempt 1 of getting a Shout Out:
Huge fan of your videos, you were a massive help to me when i first started! Nothing but love from Chicago!
i got this razor last year and the blades the came with it, were the most mildest ive ever used along with an already super mild razor lol
it works good with a feather though
I reckon this razor shines with a feather blade in it. Just as smooth as the rockwell 6c on the number 3 plate in my opinion
I really like this razor. I bought it when it came out and I’ve only used it since. It’s all I need.
This razor is way too mild for me. I immediately go across the grain with this razor because shaving with the grain it leaves a lot of stubble
I grabbed one from Amazon in the UK for 10 pounds. I agree with you wholeheartedly, great razor. BTW it's even better with a feather 👍
I got one of these on special in Boots here in the UK. Its pretty decent for the price. I use it with a Feather blade and it's a lovely shave.
Got mine a week ago and have been shaving everyday at least twice each shave
Hi Mr Shaving Lennon. I've just bought it for £12.99 (UK). I has just started to use DE razor shaving. This does not cut me and gives a good shave. For a beginner it's a very good razor to use. The good thing is it will shave me a lot of money in the long run.
Tried shaving with one the other day, couldn't get a close enough shave, had to switch to my Max3 to finish. I agree on the handle too short
Saw this razor at Walmart. I got the Wilkinson sword safety razor but might have to get this one, doesent seem half bad.
this is the one that got me into DE shaving, after seeing your video, thanks man!
I bought mine yesterday for £10, I'm 22 and just starting out with a safety razor. Thanks for your video 😄
Have fun! Let me know how your shaving experience goes.
@@SinatraLennon I will Sir !
@@SinatraLennon I used it last night after a nice shower, paired with a derby extra premium blade. It got the job done, and I've been told it feels as smooth as a baby's bottom 👍😂
Bought one month's ago used it once. Reminds me of a EJ DE 89. A decent middle of the road modern DE Razor.
Thanks for helping me get my first razor!
im like really new to shaving and the packaging got me but i tried it and i really liked it , idk if it was a good idea for a very first razor
Still using my 62 year old Gillette safety razor, that I got from my father in-law 30 years ago, with Personna blades.
Just picked it up from Walgreens. Took a shower and used it right after.
As someone who struggles with ingrown hairs, this razor along with the clear shaving gel might just be my saving grace 😭😭
It cuts so dang smooth.
Great!
Bought it a few days ago.
I will never go back to cartridge razors.
how often do you replace/sharpen your blades?
The blades should give you about 5 good shaves before they start to get dull. It's not recommended to sharpen them though since the metal can become jagged and scrape you. The blades are also dirt cheap so replacing them is the way to go.
3 shaves for me
Heads up for anyone in the UK theses are going for £10 on Amazon at the moment that’s June 2022. And thanks for the videos they are very informative.
I'm new to Safty razers, I bought this product today and going to use it tomorrow so wish me luck!!!! 😁
The King C Gillette was one of the first razors I bought. It's not bad. It's just very mild.
@Kaden Sage it doesn’t work man
ive only used cartridge razors and i found this safety razor second hand in mint condition for 10 bucks. hope it was worth the buy, im waiting for it to arrive
Wonderful ;)but 10 $ cost the new one...but is great aparat
@@suciudiana9766 here is more like 20
Ah yes i brought this just yesterday, ive only used it once and so far im pretty impressed, good razor and good video!
Sad
I remember my father and grandfathers shaving with a safety razor, but when I started the twin blade had come to the market.
I have done a bit of mixing and matching of parts. It’s great that we have that option. Also, better late than never, right?
My first proper DE razor after the Wilkinson plastic one. I like it alot and in Italy you can find it for cheap...12,90 euros. For that price it feel like it"s a steal.
I like it, the long handle fits me well but I didn't care for the blades. It's very mild, but it shaves well with a Feather installed...
I have it, goes great with Wilkinson blades, no complain.
It looks good i tried rubber band on it for more grip but It seems harsh in my hand I need very mild razors and more practice.
ordered mine yesterday, arriving today. Got it for only 15€ from Amazon Germany
