I'm from England and brought this as my first safety razor, three weeks ago from Gillette's UK site. Nice and clean and was worth losing the beard for!
Head is a Mühle R89 Head from Germany. Got it for 14,99 Euro at Rossmann, Germany, 5 Blades were included. The Handle is massive Brass and worth the money for itself. The Razor is awesome for that price.
I actually just bought one today. This feels like such an upgrade over my Van Der Hagen. The butterfly closure always closed unevenly on the blade whereas this feels really nice and I like the locked down feeling I get
Great review Ken, and after hearing about this King C Gillette I went out yesterday and found one at the local Walgreens, bought some blades and the Clear shave cream tube. I used it this morning and was quite satisfied, I got a smooth shave. The razor seems well balanced - I did notice as you that the razor wasn't very aggressive but not mild either. I'm so glad Gillette did this - I hope that this marks the beginning of Gillette being back in DE shaving - Gillette got it right...as they should.
Ordered 1 after watching this video and after first shave immediately realised how much better a DE razor is for multiple reasons including no more rash ! Glad I made the switch!!
I’m early 50’s & I’ve been wet shaving for over well over thirty years with either cartridge or plastic disposable. I always assumed either of those two were the pinnacle of wet shaving. I bought this (budget) King C DE safety razor last week from Amazon purely out of curiosity as it was a good price. I tried it out for the first time today, on three day growth. I am, quite frankly, blown away at the result. I took my time, didn’t rush, and enjoyed the moment. Without doubt the best shave I’ve had in my memory of shaving. Finished off with a splash of Old Spice just for some nostalgia. I just wish I discovered this type of shave years ago…
Fantastic clear and honest review as always. I've just picked up a King C off the shelf here in my local shop in the UK. So so pleased to see such a classic DE brand on the shelves 💈
I've been using single blade safety razors for years and they work great. I like the fact that I'm only discarding a small piece of metal instead of plastic crap.
Ken is a regular virtuoso with a razor. Makes it look beautifully easy. Gives me a goal to aim for as I keep getting better, 3 months after my first traditional shave.
Ken and all UK based subscribers - the King C Gillette DE razor featured is now available in the UK on the Gillette UK website. Priced at £20 & free UK delivery via Royal Mail. Ordered & received mine. Ken is correct - the handle is heavy (has a good weight to it). Recommended.
Just checked a Walmart store in Ontario, Canada and they are now selling this King C Gillette razor, not quite as cheaply as the US stores but $39 isn't bad. Oh, and I weighed it when I got home and the whole razor came in at around 102 grams, with the handle accounting for approximately 70 grams of that.
I just bought one of these for myself November 2023, and I can confirm that they are still coming with a paper in between the head parts with German writing on it. The handle is very heavy and it has a tight tolerance when screwing it on the post. Can't wait to give it a try. I also scored the same glass skull Ken uses. 💀 Thing is awesome!
I'm considering getting into wet shaving, and as a Walgreens employee, I was pretty surprised/excited when I set that King C display. I just wish we had shave soap and brushes!
JPS, you can order soaps and aftershaves on their website/app and have it shipped to the store for free. I have two soaps coming into my local store tomorrow and two aftershaves Friday. Pick up a cheap synthetic brush off Amazon and you are in the game.
I ended up getting the Razorock Plissoft synthetic brush and their 4-pack of What the Puck shave soaps. Now I just need to decide if I want to get a safety razor or go all out and get a straight razor!

I have weighted the whole razor and it's at 103 grams. Pretty heavy. It feels durable, it cuts great and it's generally worth the price - 17 euros at my local supermarket in Greece on discount but I've noticed that it's at 12 euros on some Greek shops online. If you can find it at that price range, you should buy it.

I picked one up as well and in my opinion it works very well. Also, being a grocery store employee I want to bid you welcome and to thank you for the recognition.

I just got mine at the local Walgreens. First shave today. You are right, it is quite heavy. It clearly weighs more than my 23C. The razor is well balanced and I liked the shave. It's good to see Gillette putting out a solid product here.
After getting a Van Der Hagen razor and shaving with it for two months with multiple different blades from a variety pack, I decided to buy this. For a novice wet shaver, this razor was amazing. Typically I would experience razor burn under my left cheek when shaving against the grain but not with this razor. I thought the blades were great as well. I’ve used the other Gillette blades with the Van Der Hagen and cut myself. The King C Gillette was a big upgrade. With, across and against the grain all was so smooth, no irritation
Hi from England in the UK. I really enjoy watching your videos..I currently use a Wilkinson sword classic DE razor..all black on appearance.. for sale in the UK for around £5. The king c gilette razor you feature here hss been on sale in the UK on since Dec 2020 for £18 plus 10 blades included. I haven't tried it as yet, but I can really recommend the Wikinson sword classic razor.. superb value.. could you do a review smd thoughts please 👍
Gillette is finally selling these razors in Australia. Picked one up today and I’ll see how it shaves tomorrow. I’ve now been able to buy a Schick and a Gillette safety razor in an Australian supermarket
@@patkaczmarek7362 they were selling them in Aldi around Father’s Day. I checked the other day and there were none in store. Must have just been a “Special buy”
I haven't gotten a haircut since January. I was going to get one mid-March until the sports leagues started to suspend their season when the situation was on the incline so I decided to play it safe and hold it off. I got hair covering my ears and wings growing in the back so I look like a hockey player.
Just got a brand new one with 5 gillette blades and had my first shave with it. I used an Astra blade used twice. Very good shave i thought. I had a 2-3 days growth. Love the razor - it looks great, feels great, and shaves great IMO. Thanks for the review.
I just got mine after watching your review, it's my first DE Razor, and all ready in love with it. Now i will go on the search of trying out different blades to fine tune. thank you ever so much!
Hey Ken, I started watching you a few years ago as I love older style things. You inspired me to get started in wet shaving a couple months ago and I’m loving it!
I'm no longer a Gillette fan, but I have purchased some of their various DE razor blades. I really like their old Fatboy and Slim adjustable razors, but that's about it. Another great video, Ken. Keep it up!
don't forget us firefighters either! In all honesty, to me, the real heroes are the people that are staying home. We signed up to do this job, people force to stay in their homes, did not.. so thank you also to all of you staying home and helping with this situation we are all going through. Thanks for the videos Ken! For me is a way to disconnect on my days off to watch your reviews ! on a side note, i converted a few guys at the firehouse to vintage shaving! so keep on shaving Ken!!!
Hi Ken. Great shave today. I checked my local Walgreens inventory online and they don't have that razor yet. I feel the same way, it would be cool to see the old school products back in the stores. I'm 52 and remember my dad switching to cartridges when I was young. He still uses Barbasol or Colgate cream though. Haha. Have a good weekend!
You got me into wet shaving about two years ago and recommended I buy a merkur 34c. Use it daily and still love it but might have to snag this and give it a shot with the longer handle! Thanks for the years of content.
My first DE razor was a 1970 or 1971 Gillette Super Speed and Gillette blades that I bought at my hometown super market back in 1986....wish I still had it!😪 I asked Matt at Razor Emporium if he considered this to be a Gillette razor and he said yes but not like the American safety razors were....meaning made in the U.S. of A.
I went to Walgreen’s tonight and bought the King C Gillette razor. Just did my first shave with it and was a very smooth shave. Slightly aggressive but not too much. I topped it off with a splash of Floid aftershave. The soap I used was Ben Franklin from Stirling. I was a bit skeptical about that soap when I read the scent description but it was only a bit of humor on their part. Hard to describe but they came pretty close!
I bought this gilette DE razor here in Germany for 12,99 € a few months ago. It's an absolute steal and it got me into shaving with DE razors in an instant. Never going back to those costly cartridge triple or quadruple razors again. Best shaving experience a man can get plus saving lots of money. Shaving and saving = win/win situation.
Hi Ken, Dave here from England. I used this razor for the first time this Saturday. Quite impressed! It is much better than the Wilkinson sword classic that cuts me to pieces. I usually use a Feather AS-D2, Executive Outlaw, Rockwell 6c, 34c & Parker Variant. I really enjoy your videos and I'm about to subscribe. Best wishes and stay safe. Dave.
Great review! 😃👍🏼 This razor and blade combo worked for me too! My only complaint is only 1 on the shelf. It would be nice if Walgreens had more on the shelf available to buy for other's that wanna get one. Walgreens has a link for it online, but it say's sold out. 😐
Hey Ken, Walgreens employee here. Retail price is 29.99, looks like you got 20% off. This is a brand new product and are sending 1 safety razor per store. I expect this to be restocked, especially with the positive response from users. Still not stocked online yet as of this morning. Thank you for the video!
You finally got one! I've said it before, I like that you review everything and give your honest opinion, no matter where something is made. If I have an ideology about where something is made, then that's on me to buy it or not. It has absolutely nothing to do with your review and anyone that criticizes you or demands you have their same ideology isn't worth your time. Keep up the good work, Ken!
They sure do. I just had my first shave with it. Head and face. First time I've used a longer handle. I noticed it got a bit slippery at times. Shave was smooth, no weepers or nicks. Looking forward to putting it in the rotation.
I remember as a kid, DE razors on the shelf in the 80's at my local grocery store. My dad bought a Gillette and a Shock, but their quality was not very good mostly plastic. Not a big fan of Gillette, but I probably buy one any way in hope for more competition and products. I think P&G are test the market because they are losing money with their cartridge razors, just my opinion. Stay Safe and Have a Great Day Still waiting for my Razor Rock MJ 90 A razor
I just got my Gillette safety razor today! I can't wait to try it. I have shaved with the cartridge blades in the past and it always irritated my skin.
The store here never has them on the websight it says those are only available on line thru Walgreens. Your lucky to find them. Good deal. Hey I was in town when I started watching you so I stopped at walgreens here and guess what?? I FOUND IT finally thanks Ken.
I don't think they will remake anything. Heritage was the closest to a remake. They may do adjustable or twist to open, but I think they will have a modern twist
I purchased one here in TX for $29.99. Quite a nice razor. I really enjoyed using it; glad you did too. Haven’t used the blades it came with yet though. I went with Gillette Wilkinson Sword for the first try.
@@kensurfs It is definitiv from Mühle. I bought a Mühle R89 and the piece of paper in the head is exactly the same as it is in the head of the gillette.
Might have to snag one of these just to encourage the trend. With a pack of blades, it brings the total up to where shipping is free. Thanks for your impressions, Ken!
Great shave Ken. It's really cool to see this available in a nation wide big box store like CVS Walgreens. It gives others a chance to discover wet shaving. Even though I can't use a DE or straight razors anymore, that does not mean that I won't encourage others and I will still be using a shave soap and brush. As far as I'm concerned, the Gillette haters need to get laid and shut up. 😀
Procter and Gamble controls the company now and they sold or closed their USA manufacturing facilities. Even their cartridge razors are made all over the world. Until they release an adjustable, TTO stainless steel razor using the old schematics they have the rights to, I'm not sure these efforts that have incredible mark ups from cost are so worthwhile, no matter how much everyone loves that they're in the DE game again. There's no reason a huge company like P&G can't manufacture a stainless steel adjustable in bulk for $50.
Great shave as always, Kensurfs. It seems that nowadays, some people go out of their way to be offended. How can a reasonable adult be offended that a product was not made where the company was founded? It is ridiculous! Do people refuse to buy laptops because components were made in Taiwan? Do Americans refuse to buy Apple products because they are made under slave labour like conditions in China? No. Some people need to do some growing up and grow some thicker skin.
Lee Haseley At first it was the commercial Gillette put out that pissed people off, which I can understand. Now the Chinese handle. The bigger picture I’m looking at is that now Gillette is sampling the DE market👍💈💈💈
@@omarhalabi3171 The thing to keep in mind is blades are cheap. That will save you a lot of money in the long run versus overpriced multiblade cartridges.
Ken, since you didn't catch the pricing on anything but the razor kit, I thought I would look up those prices for you. Like you said, the razor is $29.99. Their beard oil is $12.99 for 1 oz., a 10 pack of blades runs $5.99, the shave gel is $7.99 for 5 oz. and the face and beard wash is $12.99 for 11 oz. All but the beard oil is in stock on their website if you cannot find them in the stores.
Your thanks to the grocery workers is much appreciated I am a cashier at Jewel a Safeway branch of grocery stores here in the Chicago land area. Great looking razor, I will comment if I see this in any of our Walgreens around here :-)
I checked my local Walgreens stores and the display was there, but sold out at a price point of $29.99, so at $23 you got a better deal than what I could get here in North Little Rock, AR, if they had had them in stock.
I bought it and I never liked it till I used the head with the short muhle r41 handle, and I fall in love with the head. I realized that heavy slippery handle makes me hold it stronger which results me to put extra pressure on my skin. I wish they will have one with lighter handle in the future. Ah also the round bottom makes it harder to rest its end on my pinky finger.
I just looked on Walgreens website, and apparently there is only one store in my city that has any stock! They are also listing a pack of 10 blades for $5.99 on the website, and a $5 off coupon for this razor/blade combo! It may be worth checking out for that too! It's late here so I will definitely go get one of these tomorrow!
I picked one up today myself. I started watching your video and as soon as u made mention of getting your own opinion I stopped and went to shave. I like you have never seen a DE from Gillette in my younger years in the store (or notice to pay mind to it). I actually had a very good shave! I agree with you about the blade match up and also no nicks or weepers. Surprisingly good enough to throw it in the rotation. Really hope Gillette gets a decent outcome on this release to hopefully see something else in the future! Cheers!

👍💈💈💈
A brand new Schick safety razor in a retail store? I wasn't aware that Schick was making safety razors again. Do you have a link to the store?
@@patkaczmarek7362 they were selling them in Aldi around Father’s Day. I checked the other day and there were none in store. Must have just been a “Special buy”
@@patkaczmarek7362 the Gillette razors are available at Coles
Great review Ken, I also share your enthusiasm seeing a Gillette branded razor on a shelve in a box store in the year 2020.

Found one two days ago at CVS in Sherman Oaks Ca. Bought it and a pack of Gillette Blades

No Walgreens in Canada,so i hope it shows up here one of these days.Cheers!
mapp47 👍👍💈💈💈
Walgreens has a website you can probably order from. I’m sure they’ll ship to Canada 👍🏼
I haven't gotten a haircut since January. I was going to get one mid-March until the sports leagues started to suspend their season when the situation was on the incline so I decided to play it safe and hold it off. I got hair covering my ears and wings growing in the back so I look like a hockey player.

Hey Ken, great shave. Good to see Gillette keeping things going, would love to see them bring out an adjustable again someday. Cheers
Callahangonefishin That would be very cool👍💈
Just got a brand new one with 5 gillette blades and had my first shave with it. I used an Astra blade used twice. Very good shave i thought. I had a 2-3 days growth. Love the razor - it looks great, feels great, and shaves great IMO. Thanks for the review.

Head made in Russia, handle made in China......... PERFECT TIME TO BEGIN THE BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!!
Very difficult these days I must agree.
bought a cheap wrench once made in China and it broke like glass dropped on concrete, that was the last time I bought those tools.
Would you use a parachute or bulletproof vest made in China ?
I just got mine after watching your review, it's my first DE Razor, and all ready in love with it. Now i will go on the search of trying out different blades to fine tune. thank you ever so much!
👍💈💈
Hey Ken,
I started watching you a few years ago as I love older style things. You inspired me to get started in wet shaving a couple months ago and I’m loving it!
Chin up Ken. Don’t let the haters get to you.

Those saying they will never buy a Gillette product are the same ones posting that weishi and Vikings blade are their favorite razors
👍💈
The Vikings are OK, they're DE razors with "Training Wheels" I bought a Viking Vulcan to start off...but that was 3 years ago and have moved on.
I,ll buy Gillette. Vintage ones on antique markets.
Gillette Pure shave cream is excellent. I just ordered a King C Gillette razor. Let's hope they start remaking some of the old razors.
👍💈💈💈
I'm no longer a Gillette fan, but I have purchased some of their various DE razor blades. I really like their old Fatboy and Slim adjustable razors, but that's about it. Another great video, Ken. Keep it up!
Closet.Rebel These blades really surprised me👍💈
@@kensurfs I picked up a pack this weekend. You're right. They do give a nice smooth shave.
don't forget us firefighters either!
Eduardo Sanabria Firefighters are my hero’s here. They have so many wildfires here in California, you all are the best👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I agree, seeing a Gillette razor on the shelf was nice.... how cool would it have been if it came in plastic case with a clear front cover.....
ChrisNolin1 that would be awesome👍💈
This is one of my favorite razors. Only wish Gillette made a presentation box for it.
👍👍
I was able to pick up one of these last week and really enjoy using it. It's definitely the heaviest razor in my collection.
Josh Higley that handle has some great weight👍💈💈
Ken,I bought the Gillette razor today. Worked fine, for my light beard. 29 bucks. I used a Gillette blade from India.
Mr Cool 👍👍👍💈💈💈💈
I picked up one of these - does a decent job without any bloodletting, so I'm happy with it.
You got me into wet shaving about two years ago and recommended I buy a merkur 34c. Use it daily and still love it but might have to snag this and give it a shot with the longer handle! Thanks for the years of content.
Thomas John Thank you very much Thomas👍💈💈
My first DE razor was a 1970 or 1971 Gillette Super Speed and Gillette blades that I bought at my hometown super market back in 1986....wish I still had it!😪
I asked Matt at Razor Emporium if he considered this to be a Gillette razor and he said yes but not like the American safety razors were....meaning made in the U.S. of A.
👍💈💈
A lot of the old Gillette shavers were made in Canada and England though.
"that clam shell, that nice fancy box" lol ;) I love it!
💈💈
I went to Walgreen’s tonight and bought the King C Gillette razor. Just did my first shave with it and was a very smooth shave. Slightly aggressive but not too much. I topped it off with a splash of Floid aftershave. The soap I used was Ben Franklin from Stirling. I was a bit skeptical about that soap when I read the scent description but it was only a bit of humor on their part. Hard to describe but they came pretty close!
I know Gillette is watching this channel: please release it in Europe (first in The Netherlands naturally). Nice shave Ken :)
super bad Absolutely👍💈💈
This new line has a Facebook page. Someone asked if it would be released in the UK and Gillette replied they would be there at the end of the month.
"first in NL" haha ;D
They plan to sell it in Superdrug in the UK at the end of this month.
@@kevyshaves4109 Nice one, Kevy. Thanks for letting us know, mate.
Hi Ken,
Dave here from England.
Dave.
Thanks Dave👍💈💈
Ken they are for sale online now and the blades are as well

Walgreens is sold out, just checked, So Ken maybe there will be more and better
I inherited a Black Beauty, made in 1950. Had it restored 5 years ago. Beautiful instrument!
Great review! 😃👍🏼 This razor and blade combo worked for me too! My only complaint is only 1 on the shelf. It would be nice if Walgreens had more on the shelf available to buy for other's that wanna get one. Walgreens has a link for it online, but it say's sold out. 😐
DE Razor Shaving I really liked the razor/blade combo. It seemed a little more aggressive than the 34C. 👍💈

Scott Laughlin Thank you Scott. I was really surprised at the blade quality too👍💈
They have the full range in Australian supermarket Coles. Razor AU30.
They sure do. I just had my first shave with it. Head and face. First time I've used a longer handle. I noticed it got a bit slippery at times. Shave was smooth, no weepers or nicks. Looking forward to putting it in the rotation.
👍👍
Sorry to say, the head is also made in China. Gillette has their own plants in china (2 or 3). They still do produce DE razors in China and India.

Yet another great video, Ken. Always a pleasure tuning in. Peace.
The razor comes with 5 blades and the 10 pack is around $5.99
Michael Johnson Thank you👍💈
Yes it actual said on the box he opened 5.
10 for $5.99 is a terrible price. I bought 100 Feather from Amazon for around $30.00. But that was over a year ago.

Thanks for the review Ken. Not bad for the price.

Stay Safe and Have a Great Day

I went with Gillette Wilkinson Sword for the first try.
johnny3514 That’s what I was thinking but I was very surprised at the blades👍💈
That head looks so similar to a Muhle R89 head 😂😂😂
Alin Ciocan 👍👍
@@kensurfs It is definitiv from Mühle. I bought a Mühle R89 and the piece of paper in the head is exactly the same as it is in the head of the gillette.
Might have to snag one of these just to encourage the trend. With a pack of blades, it brings the total up to where shipping is free. Thanks for your impressions, Ken!
👍👍💈💈💈
Great shave Ken. It's really cool to see this available in a nation wide big box store like CVS Walgreens. It gives others a chance to discover wet shaving. Even though I can't use a DE or straight razors anymore, that does not mean that I won't encourage others and I will still be using a shave soap and brush. As far as I'm concerned, the Gillette haters need to get laid and shut up. 😀
Stephen Davidson lol👍👍💈💈💈
nice razor 👍
With all that hate today, Gilette was one of the biggest inventors in double edge razors in history, it deserves respect.
Michal Palma 👍💈💈
@@shave-a-thon3415 ok, sorry, im not from US and i dont know all the context, i thought the hate is because of cartridges :-)
The yanks who shout the loudest about being'' made in america'' wear red hats made in china.
Just purchased the last one at my local Walgreens.
👍👍💈💈
I saw a set the other day and was like: wow, they actually have one, and it was only $11.
It’s 39.99 here in Canada at Walmart 😭

I checked my local Walgreens stores and the display was there, but sold out at a price point of $29.99, so at $23 you got a better deal than what I could get here in North Little Rock, AR, if they had had them in stock.
Big Dave 👍👍💈💈
I bought it and I never liked it till I used the head with the short muhle r41 handle, and I fall in love with the head. I realized that heavy slippery handle makes me hold it stronger which results me to put extra pressure on my skin. I wish they will have one with lighter handle in the future. Ah also the round bottom makes it harder to rest its end on my pinky finger.
I prefer the heavy razors too💈👍👍
I just looked on Walgreens website, and apparently there is only one store in my city that has any stock! They are also listing a pack of 10 blades for $5.99 on the website, and a $5 off coupon for this razor/blade combo! It may be worth checking out for that too! It's late here so I will definitely go get one of these tomorrow!
👍💈💈
I picked one up today myself. I started watching your video and as soon as u made mention of getting your own opinion I stopped and went to shave. I like you have never seen a DE from Gillette in my younger years in the store (or notice to pay mind to it). I actually had a very good shave! I agree with you about the blade match up and also no nicks or weepers. Surprisingly good enough to throw it in the rotation. Really hope Gillette gets a decent outcome on this release to hopefully see something else in the future! Cheers!
