    With all my years of alligator handling experience (watching videos) I've never had any kind of injury, probably never will. My personal fool proof technique is to never actually be in the same place as an actual alligator.

    He’s dealing with literal alligators, things happen. It happens, I worked in a dog shelter and I got bitten, I couldn’t avoid it. Does it mean I don’t know how to work with dogs? No. It happens, people in healthcare settings get bitten by patients… let’s not judge people by 1 video on the internet 🙅🏻‍♀️

    • @mikemullikin8942
      @mikemullikin8942 3 года назад +1

      This is wisdom. I have worked with many different types of animals over the years and stopped counting the bites a long time ago. It's a product of the work environment, just like teachers and school bus drivers get sick a lot because they are around so many kids.

    • @Jake38nine
      @Jake38nine Год назад +1

      Heck, I volunteered at a humane society and worked with dogs. Typically they keep harmful dogs in the back, and put well trained dogs up front where they can be adopted. I put my finger in one of the cages of a dog that was meant to be adopted, and it bit into my finger and made me bleed out. I was more worried for the dog and it being put down because it bit me, than I was worried about myself. I did end up passing out, but I was much more worried about the animal getting punished.
      It is never an animal's fault for biting you and even if you're the most trained person with animals, you can still be bit and it doesn't say anything about you as a trainer. That's just how animals are. They will bite. Just like humans will inevitably share their opinions on the internet. It's the same thing.

    I once saw a video of Steve Irwin where an alligator grabbed his hand. He stayed relaxed and allowed the gator to "take" his hand and it released him almost immediately. The two of you were talking about the same thing towards the end of the video.

    Gabbie is so sensitive to both the animals and the humans, which is why she says not to scream like that. Chris clearly is acutely aware that humans have fear responses and can't really control it. Gabbie is an absolute badass and somehow managed not to scream in super scary situations. I adore both of you and you make such an awesome team.

    • @Jake38nine
      @Jake38nine Год назад +1

      Humans can prevent it though. You prevent yourself from having fear responses by not putting yourself in dangerous positions in the first place or where you could experience something dangerous happening to someone else. The karen screaming out of fear at the trainer getting bit by the aligator could've avoided that. But this also requires people to be self-aware enough, which I do not trust the average person to understand what self-awareness is, tbh.
      Of course, you can't always prevent dangerous situations like nature or a plane crash, but going to an exhibit with deadly animals that could bite you to eat, that can 100% be prevented if you know your fear response to such things. There really isn't any excuse for that. You're just a nuisance. Even if the average person isn't self-aware enough, I'm still holding them accountable because they should be more self-aware in these instances.

    Don't let Gabby's point slide here: histrionic screeching is only ever going to compound a situation where animals are involved. I've had to impart abrupt lessons to my nephews where they've panicked in the presence of wild swans and a bull on a farm. There's no excuse for those adults endangering everyone around them with such infantile behaviour.

    I understand screaming as a reaction to sudden events as I have been guilty of doing so. But that doesn't change the inefficiency of that reaction, especially when you are dealing with animals who also get stressed by the screaming. As humans I know we can better control this particular reaction.

    I doubt I will ever be in this situation given I live in NY and rarely go to Fl, but these videos are super informative and really just helpful and an ease of mind that hey if I do come in contact with an alligator they arent trying to eat me so dont panic and be smart, stay away or move away slowly or even sit still if you arent that close and let them go away on their own. I feel like the panic is something that could be the deciding factor in many scenarios too no? just a guess. whether it be the person thinks they have to do something to the alligator/croc, or the make too many sudden moves to where the creature gets curious enough to want to know whats going on. In any case thanks for all you do! you guys rock!!

    Even the same gators or other animals have its own personality, each of them, as we have. That’s why what we do at first, it’s respect. And if don’t know about this handler, nobody can judge him. Not only this case, there’re stories behind the things. But the news articles etc. showing us about only the results most of the time. But we can see the forest, not only a tree.

    I think what rubs me the wrong way about someone screaming their head off in that situation is that it seems so selfish to scream in terror when it's not you getting attacked. It's really not about how scared you are as an onlooker, not in that moment. The person who is being attacked is who should be the focus, and no, screaming to convey your own personal terror is NOT helpful. I could understand a startle scream (and I would probably scream at the very first second from surprise and have no control over it), but after that first "AHHH WTF" moment, zip it and either help or get out of the way. I sincerely doubt people who scream mean any harm, of course. But it's preferable they don't do that.
