I would love to see a video about college baseball schedules in the 1980's. D1 teams can only play up to 56 games in the regular season. In the 80's some teams were playing 70, 80 or even 90 games.
San Diego State set the record with 91 games played in 1982. Interestingly, they only played two games at the College World Series and were bounced in the first round. Wichita State played 87 games that year too. From what I can tell, their schedule was chock full of home contests against DII and NAIA schools. I'm kind of down the rabbit hole now so you may one day get your wish.
@@thetouchback Important note, the College World Series refers to the games played in Omaha, everything before that is just the tournament. If you end up doing a video, it'll be good to know this.
This team has probably the best defense in byu history. I just remember thinking. 15 games is insane. The wac did truly deserve three bowl teams that year
Because of my mission, it worked out perfectly. My freshman year was the year we won the National Championship and my senior year was the year Ty Detmer won the Heisman. I saw a lot of great football there. I was working and living in the Seattle area by the time Sark came along so the UW Huskies were my #2. Still bummed about not having a perfect season.
Actually, BYU made the Cotton Bowl because with the advent of the 16-team WAC, the Cotton Bowl and Holiday Bowl had an agreements with the WAC, Pac-10, and Big 12 wherein the Cotton Bowl could chose between the WAC champs and Pac 10 #2 and the Holiday Bowl would get the other team. On the other side of both bowl matchups would be Big 12 opponents (Cotton the #2 team and Holiday the #3 as I recall). Ironically, the Cotton Bowl chose BYU over the Washington team that beat BYU earlier in the year.
2002 & 2003 Alabama was bowl ineligible due to NCAA violations so they scheduled a season ending game against Hawaii both seasons. Going 1-1 in those matchups. A nice way to get a “bowl” trip anyway.
Great video - However, the Bowl Alliance took unranked 7-5 Texas over BYU to play Penn St in the Fiesta Bowl, not Nebraska. It was because Nebraska lost. 1996 was one of my favorite seasons of all time because of how crazy things got down the stretch. BYU actually made the elitist establishment re-write the college football laws in 1984, 1996, and 2001 to ensure that the big money was reserved for the elites….paving the way for Utah to “bust” the BCS in 2004…when every BYU fan knows it was a long process paved way by the boys in blue.
Fantastic job brotha! This was my childhood right here. Although 1997 was when I started my BYU fandom and first game. It was only a year after this season. I grew up 20 minutes away from Provo and the stadium. You got that interesting and weird BYU feel very well that at the end of the day has got to be respected. BYU was a pioneer in football back in these days. Great job
@@marcuslaker5876 Dude, have you ever heard of the Miracle Bowl?? McMahon was waaaaaay better than Steve Fk'n Sarkisian... Ty Detmer's numbers are other worldly compared to Sarkisian, it's not like I picked two bums lol
The counter argument for high school vs. college games not counting is that it was so common place back then. Heck, my high school defeated temple in 1924, was rivals with D2 Bloomsburg, and played in the first night football game against Mansfield.
Joe Tiller really redeemed himself at Purdue after that Wyoming/BYU game. Felt strange to hear that he botched that game before all the success he had here after the fact (I’m a Purdue fan lol).
College football has always had an aroma of pro rasslin about it-- not that games are "fixed" in that sense, it's just that nobody really thinks conference changes, "the Mediocre Bowl" etc. are anything other than crassness.
7:07 "The flip switched" instead of the switch flipped. Was that an intentional gag or an accident? I'm very curious for some reason. I will be waiting in anticipation for an answer on this one (BTW good vid so far!)
It's just me and my super amateur setup. I'm filming myself using an iPhone and trying to remember my script a few sentences at a time. No teleprompter here. And I didn't even notice the butchered phrase when editing. Just an error.
I just finished this mornings G1 climax (7/29) I thought I was done hearing about the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for a couple of days Nope…you had to name it
At least I didn't mention that Yota Tsuji played American football which was seemingly mentioned during every last one of his Young Lion matches with English commentary.
That would be from the 1969 Junior Rose Bowl, which featured SDSU and Boston University (In their only bowl appearance). You can learn more about that in my deep dive of Big West football: ruclips.net/video/rPNYoEQb_X0/видео.html

BYU has been screwed over too many times by the elitist college football establishment. At least they were awarded the natty in 84.
As a BYU fan, this was one of my favorite seasons growing up.

Love my Cougars. I missed that season because I was on my mission but my wife was there for all the home games!
I love my Cougs too. Funny he said they were “on the ascent” in the 90’s. They dominated the 70’s and 80’s!!

Oklahoma did the same when on probation in the early eighties

Idiotic statement. Whole video is well done about BYU and somehow, someway you want credit for a Utah accomplishment.

Figured this would be a video about the 2005 Northwestern (MN) Eagles and their two games in one day.
I didn't expect Bob Sapp reference of all things in this video. Well this was a deep cut.
PRIDE NEVER DIE!!!!
I remember when the powers that be said 11 games were enough and they couldn't possibly schedule anymore
Sarkisian was certainly no Jim McMahon or Ty Detmer lol
You’re insane. He’s the reason they were 14-1. Great Senior season. Big throws to win the A&M, K State and Wyoming game.

As a beavers fan.. we won that game in the first clip of the vid and we did it basically only running the ball, get shit on oregon
Goated Idaho uniform , won’t ever forget my time there!
Best team in CFB that year. They were fun to watch from A&M game to the K State game. Washington game was tough.
No... Florida and Florida State were the best teams
If they beat Washington do y
Oh think they share the national title?
Probably

I remember my freshman year of high school, had a 56 game hockey season that year... I know it's hockey, but still
I enjoyed the video. You are an energetic and talented presenter.

That's a good way to put it. I'm a BYU fan but these conference changes remind me when a guy used to leave WWF for WCW and vice versa.
