This is a pretty good entry into the history of weird sports venues. I imagine Bowman Gray probably had similar measurements when the Carolina Disco Turkeys (!) played a three game set there. I actually like Hughes Stadium, more cities should have a municipal venue around that size.
I went to several games during those years with my Dad and also my Cub scout unit. Fun times, I was too young to fully appreciate the insanity of the situation. I remember we missed the Aaron game due to family vacation. Oh, well, still fun memories. Thanks !
Hey Cheyenne, if you want a collab idea - try most absurd outfield dimension in cricket history, aka. Eden Park until 2011. That will be a lot of fun explaining over the Southern Hemisphere cricket season
Glad to see a video on Hughes stadium. Had heard about the wacky dimensions buts it’s great to see some actual footage. Loved playing holy bowls at Hughes stadium, but it cracked me up when you said parking at SCC in 1974 was bad. It was still bad in 2004 and I assume still pretty bad in 2024
Parking isn't so bad with the parking garage now built, although I wouldn't go as far as saying the situation is good. Getting in and out is still a nightmare.
1970s _Minor League Baseball_ was peak baseball. Just about everybody could drive to a stadium for a great game. The teams were largely made-up of local boys, some trying to get a shot at the _Big Show_ and others just trying to hold on to their youth. It was always a great night out. In the 80s I played in San Diego, one of the last holdouts of a minor league tradition. These days mlb has a deathgrip on baseball and they have killed the minors that once were. Great memories.
We may have the A’s for a few years if Vegas gets it together. I grew up going to great games at The Colosseum and hate that the A’s will likely leave but Oakland doesn’t deserve them at this point.
Why is it that I'm not suprised this s* show happened in Sacramento. Seriously. The town would be better a bunch of their sloughs IE a place that reeks that you attempt to fish in ... but the stench. Sacramento in the slough!

Foreshadowing for Athletics' minor league stadium seasons

At Chicago's Lakefront Park when baseballs cleared the short fence the batter was awarded second base and not a HR.
Except in 1887.
@@TheBatugan77 u sir are an individual who has a vast knowledge of the American game of baseball. now what was the question tho ??
The Touchback, nice content you deserve more subscribers
Appreciate the kind words.
As a 13 year old in 1974 this explains the crazy stats on the back of my Brewers baseball cards in 1975 and 1976

Pretty nice video, and very rad Sacremento Surge jersey btw ^_^
Sacramento deserves a pro football team
Zack Hampel would have overdosed.
Earthquake proof? What earthquakes? Never felt one in my entire life here. I went to Solons games when I was a kid
Is that a Bill Goldberg Sacramento World Football League jersey?
It is!
This stadium was even more makeshift than your average backyard game
Maybe the A's should play there instead! LOL!
What are you doing on that turf in Sacramento!!!! It’s way too hot to be out there dude!! You’re out of your mind!!!!
