Janice had about seven different singing voices and she could sing three of them at the same time.. definitely very talented and possibly the coolest chick in the world.
It's my pleasure Dan, your'e so welcome,. i second your notion. There just isn't enough people giving out credit to others anymore, almost as if they want to pretend they had no influence other than themselves. I thought this video was very important because it praises.
The phrase "Queen of Rock & Roll " is tossed about loosely today to the point of being almost meaningless. Yet when it comes to Janis Joplin, it is the only appropriate thing to say. 831 Janis!
sorry Danny Goldberg, I love Janis but she was not " the only woman to come out of the San Francisco psychedelic scene to become a major star" Grace Slick comes to mind.
Well I think what he is probably meaning by it, is that she outgrew her band to go on and perform as a solo star, it's only slightly different, Grace was still with the Airplane, and also thinking about it in hindsight, Janis is now the bigger star because of her unfortunate death. So I don't know. Certainly Grace whom I love is Major major major, and a living icon, a living legend. Janis is a goddess, Grace is one as well, but Janis reached her stardom just a tad brighter because of her demise. I would say. But I could be wrong. I do agree that in San Francisco they were the two queens of the scene. They both had it in the palm of their hands. Janis had a little more the soul of the freedom which the scene represented because of her voyage to Frisco from a little town down south and her standing out like a sore thumb. Janis lived harder too that's for sure. But again I love them equally. In fact meeting Grace is a highlight of my life and I think even grace might agree about Janis being a bigger star. I don't know.
@@coverboy1050 agree. they both are often mentioned in the same breath but couldn't be more different - Janis definitely was out front with whoever she played with. RCA tried the same approach with Grace wanting to change the name to 'Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane'. Grace rejected it.
@@haintedhouse2990 When I met Grace the first thing she told me was, you know my real name is Grace Wing, right? I had no clue. It wasn't until years of LOVING them that I was even able to really see concert footage of them besides Monterey Woodstock and smothers brothers and some other TV shows. Oh and Altamont. There was never enough footage of the band. Some dude was walking his dog today when I was walking mines, his dogs name is Baxter... I asked if he had ever listened to After Bathing at Baxters. He hadn't. He looked rather edgy and cool, so I'm sure he might. That's definitely my favorite album of theirs. I remember the first album I got was in those mail order cd catalogs. Unfortunately I never paid for it but it was the 2400 Fulton st double CD. Changed my life.
@@coverboy1050 cool that you met Grace. i remember her saying "it's a good thing I got married otherwise Grace Wing of the Jefferson Airplane would have been a little much."
@@coverboy1050 Joplin was a washed out heroin addict that just screamed her way through songs ……. I saw her live a couple of times and it wasn’t great …. Grace Slick was 10000 times cooler and left Sloplin for dust
Typical show about rock legends . run some little seen performances . Chop them up clumsily , yack over the mess about obvious stuff , or better yet trot out some fat music biz money man for more blather .
Janis Joplin one of the best vocalists of all time
Definitely!

So nice to see artists praising other artists. Thank you for posting this!

Before Madonna there were great female artists and singers. After Madonna they're nothing but entertainers
Grace Slick was wayyyyy better than Joplin
