Stealing a horse used to be a hanging offense.
Like grand theft auto and carjacking.
it still is if you steal from the wrong people
This country abandoned justice long before any of us were born.
I made that comment before I read this. Now I have to delete it.
A horse used to and for some still is essential to living, it was worse than stealing a car because we used to rely on horses for more than just company and transportation
The horse standing with them like he was a part of the conversation was pretty funny

The Amish do look after their horses really well, it's their only mode of transport. Selfish thieving woman.

In every religion, company, family, community. Luckily, there is still more good than evil in this world. And MOST of the families in the Amish community I grew up near treated all of their animals with compassion and even love. They rely on their animals to survive, what good would an unhealthy horse be?
That sergeant is loving this because he gets to pet the horse and get a photo taken with the horse and buggy. Glad they were able to get their horse and buggy back

Stealing a horse and buggy from an Amish/Mennonite family is like stealing their car, and their tractor and their pet. Where I live, it's not uncommon to visit a store with a parking lot and behind the lot is a buggy parking area, where the horses are tied to a fence or post. It never occurred to me that anyone would actually steal a horse and buggy.
Same here in my part of Delaware!
I promise that they don't treat their horses or any of their animals like pets lol.

Ur a genius aren't u. U can't imagine why that was a big deal in ur first world mind. U didn't have farms selling horses. U had to breed one, break it, raise it, feed it food that YOU had to grow or square off to let em eat one part and make sure the other part grew, same with their live stock and taking a horse could spell ur entire food supply being destroyed from lack of power for plowing and more on the farm. It's pretty common in western circles of horsemanship to teach your horse how to "ground tie" and I'm sure it's probably the same in the Amish circles. This just means that when the lead rope is on the ground not even to attached to anything, and no one has a hold of it, the horse is taught that it's the exact same thing as being tied to something and they aren't supposed to go anywhere.
