Howdy SlowGazers, thanks so much for tuning in today! I'm so excited to share my "progress" and where my head is at with makeup consumption and collecting. I can tell that my relationship with impulsive buying and even buying makeup for my fantasy selves has improved. My smaller collection is reflective of that. xoxo Diana
I could listen to you talk about this topic forever 💫I feel like "this stage of our life" is a very characteristic time of realizing what we really love. So the experimental time of our 20s (buying tons of eyeshadow palettes and playing around) then leads us to a time in our 30s where we have now found the 5 best eyeshadow colors for us! I no longer desire tons of variety in my makeup collection and don't mind having a couple variations of a lippie, eyeshadow, blush or bronzer. Its less redundant to me than having wild variety for its own sake. What a fun discovery that the classic Tartelette in Bloom palette is the only one u kept! I've felt very boring because the only eyeshadow palettes I use the most are small, matte and neutral to cool-toned. They don't look like much but are so flattering! Lastly, I say keep wearing those dark neutral red lip shades because its such a striking look on you! Lipliner has and always will be my favorite makeup item ✏
I've realized exactly what I need for makeup lately and it's been liberating. Concealer, brown eyeshadow powder for eyebrows, light wash of gold eyeshadow on lids, mascara, and a pretty lip color. I don't need anything else!
For me it's been nice re-categorizing my makeup and checking stuff off. Like, light nude powder blush, medium, deep, pink, coral, cream etc-- I've realized I have a really well rounded collection that enables my creativity without having too many dupes, and where I do dupe myself, I rotate through them like my multiple coral blushes. The clown obsession will never dull
Having actually finished a bottle of glossier futuredew and seeing my Auric glowlust half full are so satisfying, and I know I wouldn't have as easily come into this new mindset without your presence. Thanks for slowing me down 🥂💖✨️
Diana, your journey has been amazing!! Love your progress over the years.
Thanks for stickin' around Maria, it means a lot! xoxo Diana
Wow, this is an example for everybody, thanks for your video's!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩I slowed down quite a lot this year, not like you, i think i cannot have such a passion for makeup. But want to think about the planet before i buy, having so much makeup still. So, being 52, having more often sensitive eyes, i skipped every Natasha Denona/Pat McGrath/Sydney Grace/Danessa Myricks release. No more. Enough. I love more Suqqu, Tom Ford, cannot do what you can, but also want quality instead of quantity. 3 years ago i thought i needed every PMG release, well, i don't. What i love are good quality things, best quality, and best brushes. You are really an inspiration for many people i think, so i thought, i subscribe. Thank you, and enjoy your day!!!!😘😘😘😘
I actually found your channel through your first declutter video, I love seeing how far you've come especially since I have now curated a relatively small collection. Your outlook is so refreshing!
Wow, really appreciate that. I do feel like a different person now. But it's also been a lot of work to get to where I currently want to be. xoxo Diana
agreed on needing more refillable packaging for staple items & want to validate that sentimental is totally a reason to keep something! If we don’t value items with memories, it becomes throw away, which is counterproductive to mindful minimalism imo.
Noto botanics color stick in ono ono is a perfectly pigmented terracotta for me- not avail on website currently but i think/hope they’ll be re-releasing it, probs just in updated packaging
This upload makes me so happy
So glad you're here for it! xoxo Diana
Loved this video! I am too always in search of « the best this » and « the best that » to create the « perfect makeup kit ». In my mind, i would like a minimalist perfect makeup bag. BUT, to achieve that, i have to try, buy, test , rank almost everything so… i think it’s a graal quest… it will never happen
And the perfect something is perfect for winter but not for summer… needless to say that a makeup collection is always a work in progress
Girl! Amen!! I totally agree with everything you are saying in this video and am currently working toward very similar goals and mindsets. Its taken alot of trial and error (much to my walets chagrin) but im slowly finding my style in this season of life and there are some things that i just dont enjoy wearing daily. Mascara. Eyeshadow. Actual lipstick. I face snuggle and kiss my kids waaaay too much to have anything more than a whisper of color to my face and lip balm on a daily basis to enable me to love on them as much as i want without being worried they might be getting something on their face that might react to their skin or get something in their mouth that wasnt nessesarily ment to be ingested. Life changed and so has my makeup style and values and its been liberating to lean into it. Thanks for your videos! I really jive with them
Just found your channel and really enjoying it . Hope you post again soon ❤
Please give us an updated makeup collection
When I tell ya I RAN from IG to watch this! 💗 Love, love, love this, congratulations on the amazing progress and mindset shift. I definitely had my own post-pandemic, and it's so refreshing to hear your own experience ❤️ Thank you for sharing, and I'd LOVE to see your fabulous closet and experience with your wardrobe logging app. I just got Open Wardrobe and its insights (of what we TRULY use on a daily basis) are invaluable 🥳
Great to hear where you're at, thank you! 😊
Thanks so much for watching as always! xoxo Diana
Lol Your the first beauty tuber that says they don't wear mascara everyday, lol I hardly even, no way am I sooting it up to go to the store or family ☺👍 Then when you do wear it you really notice 👌
I always look forward to your uploads! I love hearing about other's experience with editing their collection to avoid over consumption. I agree with your feelings on the Merit blush! I love the formula and I also own terracotta, but the pigment disappears about an hour into wearing it so it feels pointless to even wear it.
I am so happy to see you here again!
Aw, thank means a ton. Thanks for watching and being here! xoxo Diana
I think it's great to stick with what works for you.
First I’m so excited to see this video, as I’ve been bingeing them lately again. I’m so excited to see how far you’ve come in your journey, I have been slowly curating my collection as well and it’s so interesting to see what you chose for your final collection. I would have absolutely never guessed some of these products. Seeing those Tarte items over youre beloved pat pallete or charlotte, Chanel, etc bronzer. You had such a beautiful luxury ethical collection and while some are still there I’m so surprised to see some items that do not have a strong ethos or even considered luxury mature makeup. This makes me think about my luxury collection and I wonder how you were able to pick and choose with such beautiful products? I’d love any tips or tricks as to what you did to cut it down, what was your criteria to keep or cut? Thank you so much.
So happy to see you back! Also neat to know you’re a neighbor to the north of me, stay warm this fall!
Love this! I can really get to know your favorites from this and what’s worth it! Welcome back! ❤
Thanks, Steph! I'm tempted to do a shorter video talking about, "if I'd lost everything and had to start over... what would I purchase?" Would that still be interesting to watch after seeing this video? xoxo Diana
I’d definitely watch it! 😊😊
Nice collection.. I’ve scaled down my makeup a few times however the largest scale down was when I moved.. I became over whelmed with the amount of makeup I had stored and packed away. I also had back ups which made my collection just crazy. Now have a makeup bag I rotate my daily makeup every Sunday. I give myself a week to decide if the makeup is working for me if it doesn’t work. I got caught up in the makeup frenzy and I wanted to try all the new makeup. what made it worst was influencers would push makeup they knew was not good. However, when you are getting a payment some people just push for the money. Stay safe and beautiful. 😊
So interesting….I’m starting to realize the same exact thing…..I’m so over the constant buying for the sake of it….I only use a very small amount of makeup that’s in my collection it an absolute waste…..same with buying clothes….I just am wanting to release my self from the social pressures of we must have more and more ….and you have to buy this thing to beautiful…..I’m just over it all…great video
Hey! I just discovered your channel. I also live in MKE. Looking forward to watching more of your videos, as I am trying to shop more conscientiously.
I love your honesty and chill vibe. I really backed out of the beauty community on Instagram this year and it really helped me revaluate what I enjoy in makeup and beauty. I realized that I was always being pulled to be part of what was popular and didn't always make purchases that I really loved. So now I'm just working on panning items and trying to really enjoy what I have. I love a small collection and can easily use the same products over and over again without getting bored, so I just keep a small collection on my counter and put the rest away. But I'd love to know how you decluttered your collection? Did you just put it away or give it away or sell? Just curious.
Going through this right now
I’m a sucker for packaging too. It has to be an experience.
I remember when you had loads and loads of eyeshadow palettes. I felt kinda sad when I saw you had got rid of them and then I thought to myself ‘why are you feeling sad about someone else?’
I realised that I wish I could be at your stage, I wish I didn’t have so much that I hardly use but I struggle to give them up.
I recently added two red lipsticks, a highlighter, contour stick, and brow pencil to my collection. That brings me up to 16 items (half of which are lip products 💄 because that’s what I use the most daily). Your video is reminding me to keep my consumerism in check. Thank you!
You also helped me to decide to get the Merit Complexion Stick in Ochre to replace my Laura Mercier Concealer. It’s $8 more but a better color match, sits on my skin better, and vegan & cruelty-free which I’ve been moving all of my products towards. I would have tried Westman Atelier’s but their website said some shades are not vegan and I find it unfortunate that they decided to use Nylon 12 which my skin hates but is also no better for the environment that dimethicone. 🤷🏻♀️
However, I did get Westman Atelier Bonne Brow in Bark over Charlotte Tilbury because it’s over 3x the amount of product for over half the cost per mg. You end up spending more money, with potentially more plastic, and more packaging with Charlotte Tilbury.
After everything is said and done, I think it’s best to have a curated collection of items that you actually enjoy and use regularly; and that you’re voting with your $.
Always love an upload from you. I too have stopped wearing mascara (currently don't own one) and eyeshadow. I've also been eyeing the VB bronzer. Have you had any issues with the clasp? I've heard issues with it not closing properly.
Molly, always love seeing you here! And huzzah, it's affirming to meet others who wear makeup but who don't wear certain categories like eyeshadow or mascara. So far, zero issues on the VB bronzer clasp. It's a heavy compact, it doesn't kick-up powder, and it's so finely pressed and milled that you may run into a little hard pan. But so far so good! Excited to see if you try it. xoxo Diana
I want merit’s bronze balm so muchhhh, i wonder if i could just settle with an elf putty bronzer 😭
Very random question, where did you get your right hand pinky ring from, I lovvvve it???
Hey there Julia, my ring is from The Great Frog (a London-based brand with a huge rock-n-roll history). It's one of my favorite pieces of jewelry. Cheers and thanks for asking! xoxo Diana
aw HI YUKON!! :D
I am 52...I understand your lip feelings. I seem to be loosing my upper lip, it has become so thin. I never thought I would consider lip plumper/injection. I really don't want to, but it does mess with the head.🙄🫣🫤
