Although Felidar Retreat importantly has the +1/+1 counter mode, it is crazy that it is basically a 4-mana field of the dead. The fact that Retreat is a good card just shows how busted Field is.
How is opposition agent’s ranking random? The card IS good but it’s not THAT good the way people hype it up. It’s way better in cedh, but I’ve noticed sometimes people have the misconception that if a card is good in cedh it’s good in the rest of the format and that’s not always true. With all the cards that came out this year I’m honestly surprised this made their top 20 as there were an abundance of amazing cards this year
In any deck with enough big critters Bolt bend does a lot of work but saves a lot of money at the same time. Today it was used to change a removal spell aimed at one of my opponents critters to hit one of mine instead and it only was a single red mana :)
@@poofypeanut0221 See this is where I may disagree. You see if you play a cEDH deck at a table with a bunch of precons, the card is not very good, but if there is just one other player at the table with any tutor effect, you shut them down and then you enable the inevitable win because you had the answer for any situation. I honestly don't understand why people don't play cEDH other than the money restriction. Just make more money and play better decks xD

Nylea's Intervention makes a nice sylvan scrying that becomes go get all of the best lands in your deck while also doubling as an atnti flyer board wipe in more niche cases. Literally in one go without giving your opponent advantage goes and gets Dark depths and vesuva or gea's cradle/serra's sanctum/ minamo. school at waters edge ect. In less cuthtroat gameplay it goes and gets your ghost quarter/field of the dead/cabal coffers, and sometimes in very rare occasions all of those and a kessig wolf run. Paired with cards like Sakura tribe Scout and other cards with the same effect you're going to have a very nice turn. I have messed with people pretty good using wishclaw talisman to go get opposition agent and then i get to skunk their talisman activation with opposition agent (usually getting one of their best cards or something that bounces talisman if it doesn't get passed to me, while also stopping all land ramp and fetch lands or searching for answers to my combo. I have also used wishclaw talisman at instant speed to go search up a counterspell on my turn to protect my play. Also I wouldn't underestimate counterspells or planeswalkers. Counterspells provide critical protection or answers to cards that can't be killed with "doom blade" or things that provide immediate advantage. Stopping an entwined tooth and nail is worth a feairce gurdianship paid for at full cost. Planeswalkers are interesting, you say they are bad, yet often times they can quickly dominate games, especially the newer ones. I played three games today, Tatyova land untaps that i managed to win at decent speed by using infinite mana to bounce e wit with temur sabertooth casting frantic search until my deck was thin enough to win off aforementioned oracle. then i played a long grueling queen marchessa stax game that i lost but literally just barely. You say that it is easy to kill walkers except a smart player knows to drop them on emtpy fields, or behind good blockers with a little counter magic up. Then you basically can leverage their virtual card advantage to the point there is no realistically answering them. I have even seen some "weaker" walkers like the original vraska become on table powerhouses at power level 7-9 tables because the threat of losing anything that otuches her is actually for many people too intimidating to actually risk swinging on, especially as the average mana cost of decks drops and creatures becoome smaller and the effort and number of cards required to kill a planeswalker with combat becomes steeper. Just outright killing a walker with an instant is still quite rare, and the cards that do it come with a signifigant drawback. I am sorry but giving my opponent a 4/4 flying angel in return for killing a walker is considered worth it so that should say how much of a clear danger walkers can present to a table. As anyone who has been on the recieving end of a narset transcendant master's ultimate can tell you after fighting as hard as you can to swing into it and stop it can tell you if you think planeswalkers are just automatically the worst card type you're gonna have a bad time. The worst card type is sorcery. I watched Finale of revelation where x=12 get murked by the same dimir charm twice in a game today. Oh and before anyone disses on Dimir charm note, if it's not killing your opponent's drannith magistrate it's countering their finale of devastation or it's stacking your next draw while adding fuel to your yard. The problem I have with Confounding Conundrum is that you’re fueling a landfall deck. With things like Asuza on the field, you’re giving a landfall deck free procs when they might have had only one extra land in their hand. Or if they use a fetch land that’s two extra procs. Confounding Conundrum is a landfall deck player’s dream.
-Confounding Conundum, Yorion, Dismantling Wave, Bala Ged Recovery and Feldidar Retreat are not good enough for the list. - Opposition Agent is easily in the top 5 -MDF Lands are to high and Teferi is way to high on the List. - Deflecting Swat is definitely better that deadly Rollick and should be on the List. - What about Underworld Breach?? I agree with the teferi pick for number 1, It is just so good, it has ludicrous card selection, it protects itself at instant speed, and gives you extra turns. What more could you ask for in a card?
Ngl, I was not expecting teferi, master of time to be number one. He wasn't even on my radar of good cards this year. I still think he suffers from the any creature can kill him problem, and he is going to generate a lot of hate exactly because no opponent wants him to ultimate. Maybe in a stax heavy deck he works, but I feel like you could say this of other planeswalkers. I am surprised to see no deflecting swat. I think red having a spot removal protection for free is more impactful than black having another cheap removal card (although the exile effect of deadly rollick is nice). It's the closest free counterspell effect you can get outside of blue (that also doesn't just target blue spells like say red elemental blast). Btw, luminous broodmoth was so good he hit the list twice! (You said he was number 10 but the number displayed next to him was 20 :p)
Tefari Master of Time I got off 9, NINE!!! Turns in a row with (8+ my turn going into). I actually won that game with Toggo's rocks :p him and the spinx or scry to draw I run, red blue

From Gatherer If you choose to draw two cards, then replace one or more of those draws with some other effect, the rest of Sylvan Library’s ability still happens. If you’ve actually drawn only one card that turn, you must choose that card and either pay 4 life or put it on top of your library. If you haven’t actually drawn any cards that turn, the rest of the ability has no effect.
if this is an official ranking, this would be the lamest.. sorry.. Free spells(FG and DS?), Underworld Breach? freakin' Oracle? Hullbreacher? OA? and they are all below to this monstrosity.. and number 1 is.. tadaa Teferi..?
Where would you rank the horizon lands at? They enter untapped and cost life but also draw you a card. I think the life cost is steep but should be pretty close to power level to the bond lands methinks. :)
Every episode you rant about Cabal Coffers... sure the card is very powerful and can decide games on it's own, but there are a lot of Cards like this. And there is actually a lot of setup required and a lot of restrictions have to be done, first of all you gotta be mono black pretty much, or it will be a dead card way too often. And for the most part going for a combo that nets you infinte mana is more efficient, than running coffers + If you put down a Coffers on a Commandertable you become Public Enemy No1 regardless, I had one game where I got my Coffers destroyed 3 times, and I was pretty dead on board anyways. I think people realy overestimate this card. Chill out guys, the card is good, but its fair in EDH
Lotus is just meh. Definitely would be number 20 if on the list at all. Way to restricted and in decks it "works" in, it rarely does at all. Just a push card for Timmy's.
LOL I bought the Jeskai commander deck because Fierce Guardianship was worth all the cards in the deck, now my Sultai deck uses 3 of the free commander spells in the cycle #Go4Brokko. LOL the free green commander fog spell is even useful :P
There weren't very many good "Commanders" that were printed. They mentioned a couple legends that see play, but the format is all about the best cards in the 99. What did you think when they said the best commander cards of 2020? You should have searched for the best new Commanders of 2020 smart guy.
@@NitpickingNerds well, for instance you always say a 7 cmc sorcery that doesn't win you the game isn't viable, a tapland is bad... and those cards being both don't really make them any better than, say, a land that cycles for 1 (cause they aren't a dead drop on turn ~7..) imho. yeah they could be auto-includes but they are still pricey for what you get. but more importantly, atleast from what I've seen, expecially on my playgroup and also on various channels, fierce guardianship is by far the best card ever that always turns games around.
@@NitpickingNerds oh and forgot to mention.. no DEFLECTING SWAT! it's often even better than fierce guardianship, expecially without blue in the deck, protects commanders from any targeted removal letting you tapout with nonblue decks, it's often a 2 (effects) for 1 at 0 cost..
I don’t understand how people aren’t recognizing the power of these mythic MDFC’s. A mono colored cycling land has the downside of being tapped in exchange for the upside of not being dead late in the game. These mythic MDFC’s don’t even have that downside. Their only downside is that they aren’t fetchable so 4/5 color decks with expensive mana bases probably can’t afford to run (all) these. Other than that, these cards are easy auto-includes in everything. The fact that they don’t have a huge effect is irrelevant because they have 0 opportunity cost so they don’t have to have a huge impact
If I could add to "being paid to reveal a card" the fact the people would go to the RUclips channel to get the thoughts on the card(s) from the content creator of said channel, they are already getting paid for fans/ interested parties of said card(s) by RUclips in either a monetary value of views, or they are gathering newer fans by people decided to subscribe because they agree said content creators view of card(s). The fact people are trying to get more value out of wizards is just a bit much. Because soon enough it will just be wizards giving their own over hype view of a card, because they don't want to pay, said content creators that want more money I feel don't understand the backlash of wanting money, wizards doesn't have to let them reveal the card, they do it because it causes hype and possibly allows them to see combos/ interactions that they have missed with the new card( as we know wizards has missed a lot with r and d).
We had it lower since it's "just" a combo piece, and it's not an auto-include or anything, you need to build your deck with it in mind. That's just our take on it though

I was able to guess that Teferi was #1
Lotus is just meh.
The fog is soooooo bad
@@NitpickingNerds It's sooooo underrated! I've won more games with Obscuring Haze compared to Fierce Guardianship and Deadly Rolllick LOL
I just ok'd it with my playgroup and I'm building mono white flicker around Mothra. It's just too good not to. The stickiest board state

We would never do that!
Man I thought y’all were gonna talk about “commander” cards of 2020 like who could be the commander not lands and shit
There weren't very many good "Commanders" that were printed. They mentioned a couple legends that see play, but the format is all about the best cards in the 99. What did you think when they said the best commander cards of 2020? You should have searched for the best new Commanders of 2020 smart guy.
Free counterspell is #6, curiosity intensifies... 7 CMC/3hp single colour lands is #3.... I'm done here.
Why's that
@@NitpickingNerds well, for instance you always say a 7 cmc sorcery that doesn't win you the game isn't viable, a tapland is bad... and those cards being both don't really make them any better than, say, a land that cycles for 1 (cause they aren't a dead drop on turn ~7..) imho. yeah they could be auto-includes but they are still pricey for what you get. but more importantly, atleast from what I've seen, expecially on my playgroup and also on various channels, fierce guardianship is by far the best card ever that always turns games around.
@@drorian best part of Deflecting Swat is it can target "abilities"
Fuck Oko and his elk tokens ;D
I don’t understand how people aren’t recognizing the power of these mythic MDFC’s. A mono colored cycling land has the downside of being tapped in exchange for the upside of not being dead late in the game. These mythic MDFC’s don’t even have that downside. Their only downside is that they aren’t fetchable so 4/5 color decks with expensive mana bases probably can’t afford to run (all) these. Other than that, these cards are easy auto-includes in everything. The fact that they don’t have a huge effect is irrelevant because they have 0 opportunity cost so they don’t have to have a huge impact
Heh I think I have like 16 of these just by pure luck.
You guys said Emeria's call doesn't cost life when you play land side...better check it out
It does unless you play it tapped
@@NitpickingNerds ok my bad

No Drannith Magistrate?
You said top number 10, but it said number 20 17:10

Underworld breach not in top 20?
We had it lower since it's "just" a combo piece, and it's not an auto-include or anything, you need to build your deck with it in mind. That's just our take on it though
Teferi master of time and raff
