1 mana mana dorks are literally the reason I mostly play green decks; aside from Wild Growth, Utopia Sprawl, and carpet of flowers (Which are also green) and Sol Ring, there is no other way to get mana advantage starting on turn one unless you wanna spend a lot of money (Mana Crypt, Ancient Tomb, Gemstone Caverns, Mishra's Workshop, Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, Mox Opal, Mana Vault, and Ragavan all range from expensive to extremely expensive) and the other non-green options for getting extra mana on turn 1 don't provide any extra mana on later turns once they've been used (Dark Ritual, Simian Spirit Guide, Lotus Petal, etc.) So anyway I'm glad to see 1 mana mana dorks getting recognized for how good they really are!
Hey this video has solidified you guys as people to watch, you have good informative videos and the las minute was so wholesome so thanks, it made me smile
With the sphinx card, after it goes around once and only one person draws an additional card you have seen at least 1/5 of your deck. You can see the 12 you would draw, the additional 7 you started with, and your commander.

Glad Pitiless Plunderer at least got a random mention, because that card just continues to be absurd. Phyrexian Altar is like, 50 dollars now, and this uncommon from Rivals of Ixalan just turns every crappy sac outlet into a better version of it. Turns out it’s a creature that can easily be reanimated too.
Gilded Drake was like $30 when I bought it and now it is at $300. My only regret is not getting one every paycheck. If I viewed it as a bill/investment, I'd be rakin in that sweet sweet cash
Deathrite is my all time favorite creature, stopped playing Legacy when they banned my guy. Great list! Also fantastic ending tidbit. One of the things I've always loved about MTG is how open, inclusive, and cool the community has been.
Dockside wasn't made to sell "packs" since it was in commander deck lol. Now it is in DM22 though. Some honorable mentions that bother me in my play group: Stoneforge mystic, Dark Confidant, Snapcaster mage, Aven Mindcensor, Blightsteel colossus... Opposition agent, and Dauthi are also a pain in the ass.
I use Protean Hulk to go get utility creatures in my Muldrotha deck. Viscera Seer, Phantasmal Image, Coiling Oracle, Risen Reef, Reclamation Sage, Spellseaker, Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Thassa, Deep Dwelling, Evil Twin, Ravenous Chupacabra, Gary. Usually puts out a demanding or responsive boardstate.
6:15 Also just bouncelands or land enchantments. I feel like the cmc 1 free sac outlets like Viscera Seer and Carrion Feeder deserve an honorable mention too. Not only do they enable lots of combos, they're also very powerful in any kind of aristocrats, reanimator, or graveyard recursion deck, which is like 25% of all EDH decks. Not to mention the utility to deny people theft cards or to get your commander back from being enchanted by a Lignify, etc.
we had them in the first draft of 50ish cards when we talked about them in discord, they def are very good, probably top 20. but sadly not quite as good to make the cut for top 15
A wild interaction with Gilded Drake is with Orvar, and any instant that could flicker it to your hand You trigger it, in response, target it with snap, because you targeted you make a token copy of it, steal a commander, hand them a token version, replay the gilded drake and steal something else
There is a recruiter cycle! It was confirmed by a staff, spellseeker also had recruiter in the flavor text instead of its name because "you dont recruit spells"
@@NitpickingNerds I mean I just googled "recruiter cycle mtg" and a tweet from one of the card designers popped up talking about the creation of the card spellseeker back in 2018 and how they hope to complete the cycle someday

consecrated sphinx is a pseudo-counter to rystic study/other card draw, because like, why would you pay 1 if you just get to draw to by *not* doing that? since rhystic says may does that person really want to draw those cards if you get to draw double the amount?
Imperial recruiter is (usually) a little better for the decks that I build. The best utility creatures have higher toughness than power more often than the other way around. Creatures with higher power than toughness tend to be more aggro oriented.
Allright, let me drop my predictions for this one as well (not in any particular order): 1. Deathrite shaman/Llanowar Elves/Fyndhorn elves/Elves of Deep Shadow/Avacyn’s Pilgrim/Birds of Paradise/Elvish Mystic (I believe that’s all the one mana dorks) 2. Viscera Seer/Carrion Feeder 3. Protean Hulk 4. Hullbreacher 5. Dockside Extortionist 6. Opposition Agent 7. Sakura-Tribe Elder 8. Reclamation Sage (or Masked Vandal) 9. Eternal Witness 10. Worldgorger Dragon 11. Spellseeker 12. Can you guys do best ramp in edh? Both artifacts and cards in each color. I think it’s a great topic that would be very helpful for everyone. Which cards are overrated? Etc
Solid list. I still think dockside is the best of them all because it’s insane ramp and a combo card for a lot of combos. And I’d rather have the one mana jumpstart elf over deathrite. Deathrite is a good card but who really ever said I won the game because of deathrite? Best creatures should be ones that set you up for a winning turn or are part of the win condition. I’d also put craterhoof but that’s lazy.
people win bcs of DRS all the time. its just not as obvious how an early shaman propels your game. you remember finishing the people with torment or expropriate, but forget that the early ramp, GY interaction etc brought you there. its not as flashy, but it truely deserves its spot on the top. and for dockside: we had that discussion in discord before the video came out. hullbreacher and dockside are very close, the tie breaker was: hullbreacher pitches to force of will :D
Survival of the fittest is banned ? I ask because I understand that its was nor the same joke as for the titan and also, if I remeber well it is banned in one of the two commanders format (1vs1 and multi). Or is it too strong and people don't play it to because of the casual philosophy of the format but would be/is played in CEDH ?
I think I disagree on mana over cardadvantage. Imagine you have 100 mana but no card draw in hand, however your deck is build, you have to win with the cards in your hand. But when you have your deck in hand, you win by playing fast mana and ritual's as Lotus petal and stuff even without any open mana at this point.
Problem with gilded Drake being number 4 is that if I don't swap it for one of the creatures in the top 3 I would just be giving my opponents a better creature
While yes they are pushed, dockside extortionist and smothering tithe couldn’t help sell packs because they were in commander products and not available in packs.
you can use gilded drake to steal any creature on this list even thassa's oracle and then you can use phantasmal image to copy oracle. Intelligence 100
mono black didnt have anything that could make the cut and that makes me sad! Then I remembered all the busted monoblack creatures tend to be legendary
Also about being gay. It doesnt matter, what matter is who you are as a person. That's all. Anyone who looks down on people for having another sexual preference should have their head checked.
Highlight a discord player's Commander deck, just introduce the deck and explain the strategy. Mention 3 cool/original cards from the list that you like and link the deck in the description! :D
Gotta disagree with #1. Maybe one-drop mana dorks as a ‘tribe’ are somewhere in the top 15, but I can’t get behind #1. I get the early ramp play. I get the ‘utility’ of clamping them. My constructive retort to consider is two-fold: 1). For every slot you are dedicating to this kind of ramp, you are foregoing Green’s MUCH safer option of two-drop land-based ramp. Lands are the ‘safest’ permanents; creatures are the most vulnerable, bar none. Any real opposition in a higher-power game (6+ power level) are going to have efficient tutors & boardwipes. The amount of times I’ve shot off an early board wipe to blow out the guy running mana dorks who just trotted out his commander turn 3 is in the many dozens at this point. You literally kneecap them. That’s not even counting early spot removal as a T1 BoP is telegraphing who the early threat is. 3 other astute players will have their collective eyes on you immediately. Karador is a rare exception, not the rule and such play patterns based on one commander can’t justify such a high ranking in my opinion. 2) One must look at the rest of the deck & what it wants to warrant mana dork inclusion. Edric? Check. Elf-ball or Druid-tribal? Check. Meren & Karador - maybe. After that, you’ve gotta start digging deeper. How reliable can you find Skullclamp, Yawgmoth, Phyrexian Altar, and other cards to leverage them mid & late game when the mana dorks in your deck fall way off in power & you’ve got a fistful in the deck? I see GB and GBU. Notice the need for Black’s unconditional tutors. That’s not a wide enough swath of decks & strategies to warrant such a high ranking. My vote is Seedborn Muse at #1. By being a creature, in Green, & having 2 to 4 extra untaps each turn rotation (in the vast majority of EDH games) you get a much more out of this card than a whole category of mana dorks. You untap utility effects, utility lands, and have mana back up for protection of your Seedborn/board state at a minimum. The card is broken. That said, the amount of times I’ve also seen Seedborn Muse not do much because of the deck’s construction or poor piloting is another matter entirely. That’s on the deck builder/pilot; it’s not my fault when I kill you with your own Seedborn Muse because I can (and will) steal it and use it better than you ever could.

Lovely ending to this one gents.
Ah, you see, to stop protean hulk, you krosan grip their artifact sac outlet and then you can swords it, smh my head you guys
Consecrated Sphinx is a good way to deck yourself after activating Jace’s Archivist. I’m never sad when it happens tho, lol
It is a may so you won’t deck yourself 😊
@@NitpickingNerds I know, I’m just not too competitive with Azami
@@NitpickingNerds gotta have some silliness ya know :)
Beezy was right, spellseeker fits right in the 2 and a blank search for something with a 2 in it.
I always cast Sphinx for 8 because I try to have at least ONE counter spell to TRY and protect it. It never lives till the next upkeep.
Yeah if you can protect it you're getting some bigtime card advantage
Problem with gilded Drake being number 4 is that if I don't swap it for one of the creatures in the top 3 I would just be giving my opponents a better creature
100 mana or my whole deck? I’ll take my whole deck and cast Thassa’s Oracle
I wanna flicker the imperial recruiter. Alot of my good combo pieces in my red blue are 1/1s
Hermit druid laboratory maniac. New simic combo got it 👍
While yes they are pushed, dockside extortionist and smothering tithe couldn’t help sell packs because they were in commander products and not available in packs.
Sorry to ruin it for ya mate... tithe was a ravnica allegiance card in the set to sell packs, and dockside sold commander decks.
for glided drake you name it wrong , filker does not double the etb, you need to bounce it
you should do stand alone creature top 15...seems most of the creatures on this list are combo pieces or niche pieces.
you can use gilded drake to steal any creature on this list even thassa's oracle and then you can use phantasmal image to copy oracle. Intelligence 100
Is it bad I just realized drannith magistrate counters commanders?
mono black didnt have anything that could make the cut and that makes me sad! Then I remembered all the busted monoblack creatures tend to be legendary
Also about being gay. It doesnt matter, what matter is who you are as a person. That's all. Anyone who looks down on people for having another sexual preference should have their head checked.
Well said!
100% agree
Highlight a discord player's Commander deck, just introduce the deck and explain the strategy. Mention 3 cool/original cards from the list that you like and link the deck in the description! :D
Gotta disagree with #1. Maybe one-drop mana dorks as a ‘tribe’ are somewhere in the top 15, but I can’t get behind #1. I get the early ramp play. I get the ‘utility’ of clamping them. My constructive retort to consider is two-fold:
