Sheoldred isn't a haymaker. She is a questing. And the questing is are you willing to spend removal on it before someone else does. It's a game of chicken. Because if you are that player that has 5 1/1 tokens, you don't care about sacing a creature on your upkeep. So you don't answer it. The next guy has a 3 2/2s creatures. He's not too happy but he sacs one. next guy has just tapped out to play his commander, now has to sac it and isn't to happy but thinks to himself that if he kills it now, he only helped all of his opponents without gaining anything in return, so he doesn't eighter. And then that player ends his turn... And then the question pops up again: Are you willing to spend removal on it before someone else does. And if no one felt inclined to do something it goes to the Sheoldred players upkeep and everyone will look into his/her GY to see what will come out of there... It is a card that you play to force a reaction not to end the game. Also she doesn't costs 7 mana. She costs 4-5 at most, unless you build your deck wrong.
Shouldn’t you just play something better so if they don’t answer it you win, and then still have another game ender. It’s the same thing but you’ll actually win if they don’t have interaction
I had a game once where my friend had a worldspine wurm as his only card in his deck and he had a way to kill it every single turn. I had a mill deck and it was funny, because I just had no options left to draw him out.
I love craterhoof so much! Hesitantly traded for one and I do not regret it. I don’t know if this is a haymaker but it feels like one: Chromatic Orrery is great in my Tazri party deck. If that card resolves Tazri goes off and I get a bunch of dudes. Great video, have a nice night.
Craterhoof is the big green finisher machine! Orrery can be decent but is an investment, I wouldn’t call it a haymaker, but if it sticks around it’ll put in a lot of work
They actually gave Ow Stampede a shout in a recent video on cards to buy now b/c they're currently undercosted/likely to go up (hacing a C-hoof effect for $3 is very strong considering usually he wins you the game on resolution even without his 5 +x power body)
I have scooted platinum angel from the graveyard so many times and comboed off and won at negative life, for me in an extended game where alot of spot and mass removal has been exausted it has pulled out a win I was definitely going to lose so many times. Kenrith really loves reanimating this
Btw: Aminatou's Augury is insane. If you have a well built deck for it, you kinda just do whatever you want. Start packing in spells like Spelltwine and Mnemonic Deluge to double/quadruple up your Auguries. What's better than casting your top 8? Casting your top 16/32 🥵 Special shout out to Emergent Ultimatum. My favorite split is Expropriate, Aminatou's Augury, Mystical Tutor. If they shuffle in Tutor, you get Expro/Augury for free lmao. If they shuffle in either other spell, you put it on top your deck with Tutor and go nuts :)
I was playing a Norin the Wary deck where this was my finisher. Someone tried to counter my Warp World so I flashed in Duelcaster Mage and made two copies of the Warp World. One opponent just scooped when he finished reading what Warp World does and realized that we would have to resolve two of them back to back.
On the note of grave titan, I agree he's not up there, but he shines in my encore focused commander deck in where I make three tokens of him and they all swing and die, 12 zombies along with other boosts to zombie tokens (accidentally happened when making the deck zombie tribal 😅). But other than that no. It That Betrays is also way better when you can throw it out for free in Rakdos, doesn't cost too much when it's cheaper than a Filligree Familiar 😂😂
Interesting to think how the game has evolved. I just removed insurrection from My Darreti deck, which ironically has won at least a couple games with Mindslaver (when the spell is "free" and recur-able GG); yet to see All is Dust in hand. Also, hmm I just bought an Akroma's memorial (It dropped to ~$11) for my mono-G elfball (Ezuri) and am thinking sure, psuedo-haymaker b/c vigilance means any of my big-mana-producing elves can now swing and pump my general for elvish overrun, but also helps with flying problems, protects my boys from a lot of things... this is getting long, thanks for another great video NN! a friend of mine plays kaervek in a obosh the preypiercer burn deck. if he manages to give him infect as well it is quite desvestating tbh. if it goes unanswered of course
So many of my wincons in my Akroma, Vision of Ixador keywords deck were in the “kinda bad” section. But one I didn’t see that can win me a game if it stays out is Aurelia the Warleader. Extra combats and untaps and more buffs with any combat loving card is great!
My pet peeve is Praetor's Counsel. It doesn't go into every green deck, but it sure gives card advantage in certain decks. I'd call it a game changer (not necessarily a haymaker by your definition, but for certain decks it is a maker of hay).
Hello from the future! This is a really on-theme card for the new Vorinclex // The Grand Evolution. I am making a deck for it at the moment and this seems like a great card for if they manage to deal with the stompy slot machine.
Haymaker count by color from this list (given they may not be naming some): Blue: 3+ black: 3+ Red: 2+ Green: lost count Colorless: 2 + Eldrazi White: 1
Mentions Living Death/Rise of the Dark Realms Eerie Ultimatum - "Am I a joke to you?" Mentions Ruinous Ultimatum moments later. E.U. - "AM I A JOKE TO YOU?!?!" I've had the table scoop after playing Eerie Ultimatum, but I would say my meta is around the 'slightly better than pre-con" category. Like some of your other mentioned haymakers, E.U. requires the right deck.
Blightsteel is killing someone once it comes down. Definitely not a trap. Key to the city or another card with the same effect and that's just death for someone.
Now, there is a commander I'd play Grave titan in. It's Henzie Toolbox Torre. Even if you cast henzie once, he turns Grave titan into a "Pay 5 mana, get a 6/6 with haste, 4 2/2 zombies and you draw a card." Doesn't make it a good card but it's a fringe case where I think it's playable
Primal Surge!! Notably, you can choose to stop at any time, so you can leave as many cards in your library as you want. It’s tricky because you have to leave out instant-speed interaction, besides a few flash creatures etc. I have yet to fire one off, but I WILL live to see the meme manifest!
My new favorite haymaker is the new Reshape the Earth. I play it in my Golos lands deck, it often gets crazy with scute swarm/moraug etc., and I happen to run maze's end because it's fun, so if I have 1 of my gates or maze's end, I get the rest and win when I untap.
I blightsteel's defense, I play it in one deck where it somehwat symsergizes (Breya) and it's my post- haymaker, i.e. we've been sitting here for 2 hours, top- decking, exiled or completely neutralized all our game plans etc. With this thing, if they don't find an answer, you can close out the game in 6 turns at te latest, but, more realistically, 2 turns, since only 1 other player is left
I just won a very long game with massacre wurm. I was playing yarok, double the triggers, then with sword of heath and home blinked it, and blinked it again with Thassa at the end of my turn. Caused a shit ton of damage with -8/-8 and 2 damage per creature that died! So good.
I use Tooth and Nail in my Temur deck just as a way to get the 2 best creatures I need in that situation. 9 out of 10 times that normally wins me the game with variants of Xenagos, Pathbreaker Ibex, Hydra Omnivore or Scourge of the Throne.
I play a lot of these in my Atla Palani deck lol! Pathbreaker Ibex is one of my favorite game enders, having Craterhoof enter usually ends up being a wiff with me since I can't always control when which creatures hit
I enjoyed this video, but I don't agree with everything. Gisela is a beast of a card that often wins games the second she hits the field. Her effect is immediate when she comes into play. She is easy to cheat in via Kaalia. It really depends on how you use her in your build. As easy as the artifact creatures are to remove, they are also in many decks that cheat them in (Saheeli). Artifacts in general hit the board much faster and have easy ways to return to play from the graveyard. Nyxborn ancient is both a Creature AND an enchantment. To provide an advantage likely takes until your next turn. You could argue either way. I enjoy hearing their arguments though. Great video!
I was ammused to hear you guys talk about Felidar Sovereign because I play a life gain deck that can consistantly get 2-3 hundred life early and I have only won with this card once, and it required me to have Vedalken Orrery out. If you are not running a combo deck with infinate life, it is crazy how quicky this card turns you into an arch enemy, just for it to be removed right before your upkeep anyways.
29:00 you need to keep Going!! 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11! You just talked about Haymarker and many of them were odd mana cost. That means this needs to be answered or you can't play your win cons.
Played Sultai deck in Commander Legends Draft, with 3 other friends (Archelos being my first pick, thought it would be great as a color enabler, more than anything else, and it stayed my commander, dunno what was the 2nd card I've picked). After first 2 picks a friend passed me an Apex Devastator, and it was my 2nd round pick (3rd overall), huge chunk of my deck being around ramping into it. It took a while to cast it and... I got 3 mana rocks and a Counter (the one with Cascade of it). Sheer terror of it resolving and me getting to cast 4 cards for free was well worth it, as well as laughter when I've got nothing from it. In hind sight, I should've probably countered one of the Mana rocks, to Cascade into 3rd mana rock, since Counter was my 3rd card, and get something better from Apex Devastator's Cascade. But I've still won the game. lol I love the card, and Chaos, but I'm well aware it's pure jank.
Funny video guys! Playing Primal Surge, Elvish Visionary won’t kill you, you can stop it’s effect any moment cause it says may for using the ability again.
Thank you! You’re right that you can stop it, but it might be best to always make sure your whole deck comes out, for those rare scenarios where your big payoffs are towards the bottom. Visionary isn’t as scary, but some mandatory “whenever a creature enters draw a card” would be real bad for you 😂
Two hours ago... I played my belbe deck. Turned out a turn 4 ulamog, ceaseless hunger with 6 mana from her ability. Someone scooped. Would you have? He was so mad he walked away and before my next turn living death was cast.
Yeah, in my experience Time Stretch has been very bad. In practice the decks that can abuse it the most basically make it just one true extra turn: You get the turn you spent casting this back, and then a real extra. Play Time Warp instead. You can still do things after spending 5 mana, and the extra turn is just as good. Expropriate is not only cheaper, but the upside is generally much higher.
If you don't already have it in there and have access to one, Expropriate would actually really make sense there. I think they did mention Blatant Thievery recently in a vid but can't remember which one >.
I got the blightsteel colossus in my infect reanimator deck, but not as a haymaker, but as a decoy target, lol. I am not sure if that is really smart, but I got 2 good games out of it.
I'm pretty late here, but I'm glad people still label the Eldrazi Titans as haymakers. Commander or not, I love using Ulamog. He takes investment (though it's not much if he's in a tribal deck for Eldrazi/ colourless stuff), but once he starts moving, he's disgusting.
I know this isn't the place to go on about exceptions, but I have a Tishana deck that sits at like a ~9.5 and it runs Akroma's Memorial, tho it runs every possible hast enabler it can (except crashing drawbridge, because ew) and it's surprisingly not the worst option in the deck, lol. XD
I remember a game where I did cast Apex devastator in my chaos deck and jesus christ, my turn went about 20 minutes long where I took extra turns, cascaded with other creatures on top of it and did a bajillion damage to everyone. Was fun
Another reaction, this time about Apex devastator. If it isn’t a haymaker or four, you at least had the most fun you can have for 10 CMC... like this time I flipped a Mana Reflection and Zendikar Resurgent and two other leviathan like thingies and all my opponent could do was River’s rebuke so I could have the longest next turn ever unwrapping 4 more presents. So while not winning on the spot it is my favorite card from Commander legends by far!
Apparently It that betrays is only playable if its 8 mana for an 11/11 with annihalator 2, and the ability text. You guys would make amazing game designers lmao (no shade, just found that funny)
craterhoof is unique in that while all these haymakers are situationally great in certain decks, you actively have to build a green deck where craterhoof wouldn't be good. Its etb is so good that you dont have to choose between going tall or wide, its just that good.
so many of the trap cards I see in an Atla Palani deck in my playgroup. Turns out paying 0 mana for avacyn and void winower is better than 8+, though i agree its very hard to find a place for many of the trap cards listed if you arent cheating them into play.
Ive found that card to either do a lot of hosing or just dies doing nothing. ITs up there with Iona as a boogeyman certain decks kinda forget to have a contingency plan against.
I think I'm gonna disagree with Akroma's will, I think in non red decks it can be difficult to give your team haste. There are some alternatives now, but back in the day it was like memorial and concordant cross roads were the only ways to get haste outside of red.

24:05 I won the last game I played with Felidar Sovereign, just need to flash it in and it leaves the table gobsmacked lol
But I've still won the game. lol
I love the card, and Chaos, but I'm well aware it's pure jank.
Visionary isn’t as scary, but some mandatory “whenever a creature enters draw a card” would be real bad for you 😂
Two extra turns is an...e-turn-ity.
I like this more than I should!
Awesome, explain the term Haymaker already a good start of a video! thanks
Two hours ago... I played my belbe deck. Turned out a turn 4 ulamog, ceaseless hunger with 6 mana from her ability. Someone scooped. Would you have? He was so mad he walked away and before my next turn living death was cast.
The Great Aurora is a super nice spell in my Titania Deck. Having already 10+ Lands on Board makes it super easy to get out ahead :D
One of my favorite late game Enders is Immolating Gyre in my kalamax deck. Basically a 6 mana in garruks wake.
Jack Eichel was my first pick in this year's hockey pool. I hope he does the Buffalo Sabres well!
You guys should do a guide to Sagas or which sagas are worth it once you all get a chance to play with the ones in Kaldheim
If you guys want lists of combos, look at commander spellbook online. It has a full database of combos
Oh that’s sweet! You should comment with the link for everyone. 😊
Some cards become haymakers because of the rest of your deck. In my Maze's End deck, Reshape the Earth is a haymaker.
It’s a win condition, not a haymaker.
My favorite haymaker is Synthetic Destiny. It's a bit like Craterhoof, but as a six mana instant with a bit of randomness.
What are good ways in mono green to gain haste for your whole boardstate? (Tribal elves)
This could finally help me decide whether I want to run Rite of Replication or Blatant Thievery in Braids
If you don't already have it in there and have access to one, Expropriate would actually really make sense there. I think they did mention Blatant Thievery recently in a vid but can't remember which one >.
@@EJsGameplay Yes, Expropriate is great but it's kind of a budget, "friendly" decks, so I don't play Expropriate nor Rift there :)
@@golgariguy That's fair then.
I got the blightsteel colossus in my infect reanimator deck, but not as a haymaker, but as a decoy target, lol. I am not sure if that is really smart, but I got 2 good games out of it.
To note in my Athreos Shroud Veiled Felidar Sovereign is quite good since suddenly people need to kill it twice for it to actually die.
XD
Protean hulk and bolas’s citadel are major cedh cards. Tooth and nail is sometimes a cedh card
Protean hulk isn't CEDH viable??? Didn't that card ruin CEDH?
I remember a game where I did cast Apex devastator in my chaos deck and jesus christ, my turn went about 20 minutes long where I took extra turns, cascaded with other creatures on top of it and did a bajillion damage to everyone.
Was fun
Return of the Wildspeaker + Worldspine Wurm is fun! It’s definitely more of a piece of a pie than a whole pie.
True, unless youre playing like ubg hyper combo if your deck has green, even in cedh, craterhoof wins
so many of the trap cards I see in an Atla Palani deck in my playgroup. Turns out paying 0 mana for avacyn and void winower is better than 8+, though i agree its very hard to find a place for many of the trap cards listed if you arent cheating them into play.
Shield wall is what avacyn and darksteel forge are. That would be a good video, best defense
I'm partial to mnemonic deluge. Always different and fun with game ending potential but not guaranteed.
Another great video guys
Hello and thank you for your videos. Fellow New Englander from MA.
I have that same hoodie and it is so comfortable thank you for reminding me to look for it
Drink every time Joe says "crippling"
I did an infinite combo with Expropriate, God-Eternal Kefnet, and Scroll Rack the other night. It was so good.
Ewww. That’s a snap scoop right there with any extra turn spell lol
As someone who plays Void Winnower in an eldrazi -Animar deck, it does a lot of work when on the board
Ive found that card to either do a lot of hosing or just dies doing nothing. ITs up there with Iona as a boogeyman certain decks kinda forget to have a contingency plan against.
I play grave titan in Araumi and it feels pretty decent
What do you guys think about Mizzix Mastery?
I wish I could put Bane of Progress in my angry omnath deck, but the engine is based around enchantments.
Jhoira of the Ghitu is a Haymaker deck, and I love it.
I live not far from buffalo I enjoy traveling 2 find different lgs's... curious what lgs's do u recommend from your area?
I think I'm gonna disagree with Akroma's will, I think in non red decks it can be difficult to give your team haste. There are some alternatives now, but back in the day it was like memorial and concordant cross roads were the only ways to get haste outside of red.
great video, it was excellent perspective
Glad to hear it! I order the Baconator every time 😍
This video showed every card almost in my golos deck lol
Try casting Felidar Sovereign at instant speed with a Leyline of Anticipation effect.
Would you guys consider Archfiend of Dispair a good card?
Whitch one better?
Time strech or nexus of fate?
How about tidespout tyrant , sun titan , nezahal primal tide?
We would say Nexus is better than time stretch and sun titan is the best of the second list
@@NitpickingNerds well it depends on the second list, tidespout is the only one you'd ever consider running in say a polymorph list and goes infinite with less cards (thanks urza)
But sun titan is better in a vacuum
All very good points, but I will always rep my waifus in my Nethroi aristocrats deck, Sheoldred and Avacyn
