    Too all, I have followed all the steps in the DCS Forums since this problem first occurred months ago when DCS Options changed and put the FOV Setting on a slider in the menu. Around that time is when it stopped saving Cockpit Angles, and there is discussion about it was merged or got corrupted when mixed with SnapView Saving, but for me, it works for a short while, until I leave the program or come back the next day and my settings have reverted to default in the cockpit.

    Juice I don’t know if you have solved your issue but here is what I did to make things work for me. Like you I do not use zoom, I am running triples. I have my FOV setup for each airframe as if I were in the cockpit, I have 43” Hisense TVs and a DIY flight chair. My position and distance from the monitors are so it’s as if I’m in the cockpit, so I had FOV issues. I finally solved my FOV issues by creating a custom LUA for my monitor setup, I don’t think it matters if your using 1 or triples monitors I am not sure about VR but I’m assuming FOV is FOV. Now what’s different in my custom LUA I have the added additional lines as follows:
    useAsoluteAngleShift=true
    useAbsolutFOV=true
    FOV=01.6500 in my setup
    by adding these 3 line in my custom lua I am now able to set a custom FOV for every airframe.
    Pros: I have the exact FOV that makes me feel I’m in the cockpit
    Cons: By adding the 3 lines you lose functionality of the FOV slider in DCS and zoom functionality in DCS is disabled. Which I don’t use anyway. FOV changes are done via 2 lua’s your custom monitor lua, and SpanViews.lua
    Conclusion: Once you have all airframes setup…PITA😂, I have never had to make any changes(except for the occasional tweak) even after DCS updates. Let me know if this helps.

      @@AIRWARFAREGROUP So your custom monitor lua sets the I guess main FOV and then I tweak in cockpit for each airframe using the SnapViews lua via in game adjustments. The I believe it’s RightCntrl RightShift number pad 8 up 2 down plus and minus for back and forth if I remember correctly. It never changes unless I change it😎

    I don't know if it's a solution for everybody, but here's what I do:
    In any aircraft there is a Zoom axis (not the Headtracker axis, but the pilot view zoom).
    I add either the friction lever on the throttle, or the lever in front of the flightstick to that axis. Now tune the axis as slider, set Saturation Y to the degrees of FOV I want in that particular aircraft. Default is 100° so the Saturation percentage equals degrees, but whatever just tune the setting until it fits with the axis in the resting/maximum position.
    Now everytime i hop in a cockpit I once actuate the axis and it jumps to the axis setting. I can leave it there or use the lever to zoom in gradually, only zooming out to a fisheye FOV isn't possible as the maximum FOV is your setting.
    You could use any available analog axis, if you don't need the Zoom in game. If you need the Zoom, use an axis anyway as it has the best dynamic result.😎

      Thanks Shagrat! That's pretty much what the video Patrik linked talks about too. Surely looks like a workaround, but I'd really like to find out what broke the initial function that worked for almost 15 years and is still labeled and advertised in the program to find out how to fix it. All my many sliders are occupied and I will consider this after we exhaust all efforts to resolve the core issue and revert the function or better yet, move the cockpit FOV slider to each individual aircraft options under the special tab and remove it from the main overall menu within game. All the information on that tab in game is for the entire game, so if internal FOV is there, the problem might be that it's trying to apply a specific setting from the tab to every aircraft which is unique.

    I also feel your pain. I own all the modules, and got tired of struggling with FOV and Zoom settings. I predominantly use the TM Hornet grip on the VKB WarBRD base, and use the little rocker switch in the center as “zoom in slow” “zoom out slow” and the center depress as “Zoom Normal”. Using this on all modules, except the Hawg and Viper, has been a great help. That said, I really like the idea of each module having an FOV setting under the Special tab.

      Nice, think many refer to that as the "Boat Switch" and a good idea. There's an interesting third dimension when tuning everything that has to do with the HUD glass information and HMD size when using zooms.

I should have to re-watch the previous video to put myself into context with FOV. Maybe ED fixes this soon and someone explains how to set this up for once. Hey Juice, judging by that red exclamation mark in keybinds you have changed to some new controller?
    I had the same issue when I changed TWSC throttle to STECS where DCS didn't show my last saved (TWSC) keybind cause I disconnected the old throttle, so you can right click on the zoom axis fields and clear combo or set back to default, maybe that's whats causing it. Or simply reattach old controller and see if something is still bound to the command. If my assumption is correct that is:)

      I used to use the slider on my TM Warthog to unrealistically zoom, but stopped because it actually hindered Situational Awareness development. After stopping, my ability to know where the enemy, the target, the runway, etc was greatly improved because it forced me to form a better understanding by using my radar, permission planning skills, wingman calls, AWACS communication and more to form the 3-D picture of the battle space. I now use this slider for the radar antenna elevation control.

    There are mods that try to help the view and give everything more depth and remove that janky feeling that everything is flat and distorted. As for the problem you have, it is a problem everyone has. I personally solved it by getting TrackIR. Your idea would solve it permanently though. DCS resetting things is common though. I'm sure it was broken with an update to the new slider for FOV. When you take something that was .lua defined for each aircraft and tie it to a common slider that covers everything, it's going to push the input saving to the master file and neglect the custom view lua saved.

  • @toastfrenzy

    Yes, this is annoying for sure. I just now have zoom on a slider, mapped enter key to reset, and if it's not right, I'll just use zoom to move fov. But it's a constant fiddle whilst air side. Think when I reset the fov goes to 80 or 88%. Though even now, I'm sure my enter key wasn't working and the fov was too far zoomed out the last time I got into DCS. Hmmmm

      Don’t fret, you’re not alone, ED is looking into this and investigating what changed that broke is key to finding the fix. DCS has notoriously been a situation of fixing something or introducing new features that affect others, sometimes breaking it. Good examples include the A/A TACAN or the Viper AAR Fly-By-Wire gains, it happens ans understandable. Back mapping and forensics is key to the solution as well as avoiding future issues.

      ED Developers have acknowledged that it’s not working. So, I’m thinking it’s broken. By chance, are you referring to external FOV or internal? My contact is talking to the team about it.

      @@AIRWARFAREGROUP I only play on servers with no external view.
      All I know is that for many years I have bound a "zoom in slow" key and a snap back to normal key. I left the snap back to normal key at default zoom. Which was about the same as your 70 degree setting.
      This all worked fine for me until recently when the default zoom became fish eye.
      I also notice that many of my friend use wide screens and they are often talking about zooming out to fit their wide screen. When I watch screen capture it looks fish eye on my screen which is not wide ratio. I assumed that DCS changed default zoom to accommodate the many wide screen users.
      When they say "it" is broken. They may mean the custom settings being saved. Any aspect of this system could be bugged. Which are bugs and which are features remains unclear. There is a reason for them to make fish eye default though. I assume your screen is not wide ?
