Latest Update:
- Along side the supply chain issue, Maono got complaints from users that the mic was too low of volume so they boosted it by 4db
( People not familiar with how these work were using it too far away )
- If you just want a better mic for zoom calls get the A04 and understand the optimal windows volume level and distance from your mouth
- If you want the best audio quality get the PM422 and you know what to do, get close and personal to get that deep crisp audio
PM422 is not available in India as of now, how about PM420?

Thank you so much for this video. I always appreciate teardowns and deep dive videos like this.
I just got the PM420 and can report it has the exact same PCB as the old AU-A04. Even the printed model and date text is the same.
Seems the only difference is that the 420 uses the same shell as the 422, but without the extra features.
Thanks for sharing your findings, it seems like its exactly what I thought it was.
Thanks for the video, really impressive amount of information compared to other maono reviews.
I decided to go with PM422 and I'm glad I made this choice.
I've just released a video discussing this problem together with some firmware from Maono to potentially fix the post-mid-2020 ALC4050 AU-A04 mics. I hope this helps someone.
i bought this shitty a04 and i am so thankful you made this video. i thought it was a problem with MY OWN hardware. turns out all these stupid grounding issues i had with the usb was this crappy microphone chip. i was shocked how my old microphone for 15 dollars was EXACTLY the same quality. so disappointed
I think there is a firmware fix that takes care of the audio distortion, and gain. I have the a04 but got it in sep 2019 before the chip shortage, and it sounds really friggin good.
lol i bought my maono in jan 2019! also awesome vid, initially came for the exp gdc subbed!!
edit: going to send this to a friend who bought au04 coz of me
Thanks for clearing things out. I've ordered PM-422, this is gonna be my first condenser mic.
Have u got the mic?if so,how is it?
@@rafiurrahmannnn hey, yes, I've received it. This is really great mic, love the sound quality. No background noises. I keep it close to the mouth when I speak (~10 cm) so it sounds perfect. Also you might need to have grounded power socket for your PC to improve the quality.

@@Unknownperson-y3h Hi, I would definitely recommend you buying PM422 as it offers slightly better characteristics + the bundle that comes with this mic is very pleasant. I still use PM422 in pair with NVIDIA RTX Voice program, it provides very clear sound.
Hey bro,
I just bought the Maono au-a04,it is with the new chip,i.e.4050...and the return policy is still there, shall I return it ????Please help cause its my first mic.
Some dont mind or notice the quality difference, others can, try it out see how you like it, listen to some recordings with a pair of headphones.
There are tons of other mics you could look at, such as the PM422/PM421. or the HD300T.
@@LifeKommando
The PM421 AND PM422 is out of stock in INDIA in amazon.
@@LifeKommando
Does the new chip also captures a lot of background noise...because my microphone is capturing a lot of background noise, even the horns of vehicles...is this with the old mic too?
That will happen with a lot of mics, if your enviroment is not treated, its going to pick it up.
What it comes down to is if you hear a noticable amount hissing in your audio in a silent room with the new chip.
Thanks a lot 🤗
even if maono au-a04 have changed the internal, what would you recommend between Fifine k669b and Maono AU-A04 ?
For all I know the K669B changed slightly but it does have a more "pleasing fuller sound out of the box" with the addition of background noise of course which does not exist on the AU-A04 since it cleans the noise floor, but its got a more flatter sound which is actually really good for recording or in use with a virtual mixer for example.
If you are just using it for voice chat, either one will do the job of course, but I would still lean towards the Maono for its included accessories and detachable cable. Keep in mind that the Fifine comes in a bundle as well.
ahhhh got it :) thanks you so much for the reply !
Hi, great video. Thanks for sharing. But which microphone can you recommend for better noise cancellation?
Bought other brand mic and to my surprise i find maono au-a04VA2 board with KT0206 chip inside.

Hi, I would either go for the PM422 or the AU-HD300 which I am currently working on testing and will highly recommend : )
I recently bought PM422, and the shock mount became plastic. But the sound is still great for its price. How would you identify if it has Realtek Chip? In the sound control panel, there's no Realtek drivers showing up. O can't also opem the mic as there's a huge tape at the back with the labels and serial number. Thank you
I see, they might have changed something, but if it sounds good cool. You could prob still remove the sticker and check the inside, its just a bit annoying to open and put back together.

Hello. does this problem affect xlr mics such at AU A03?
That should not be the case, since if you are using XLR, your amplifier box or mixer will handle and take care of processing
I just bought AU A04T one from Amazon and it sounds just fine

can you please check the chipset inside it

This video is very helpful, which helping me in deciding which model to purchase. Would u mind sharing if the A425 plus with 25mm is using the 4042? and will the 25mm Cardioid sound better than 16mm? I can assume the lower end model 461 shouldn't getting the 4042 chips? It helps me to decide whether i should go for A425 or PM422.
I honestly don't know about any other model, I would go for the PM421 for the sturdier shock mount, I confirmed that it has the good chip.
@@LifeKommando Great! Thanks for the reply. So you would suggest us to go for the PM421 over PM422? I think both of their difference on the mic is about the headphone input, but didn't know the shock mount is different quality.
I saw your reply to the same question I asked. :"D I enjoy reading your reply in other ppl comments. I just checked, PM421 has a 19x19 stand vs PM422 19x15 stand. And also the different shock mount that you mentioned. and lastly, is the headphone jack which makes the difference. So I will need to decide if i want a longer stand + a better shock mount or a headphone jack.
i have a problem with my maono au a04 its chipset is not realtek nvm i found out that the chipset was suara
Interesting, does it sound good?
It does if i put noise suppression and noise gate but if i try putting on listen to this device it sounds bad af it picks up too much background noise, even when i tried recording it in voice recorder it still sounds the same, even in my first recording it raw on obs it still has so much background noise
Would you recommend the model AU-904 than the AU-A04? I'd want to start recording for podcast.
I think a good chance that the AU-904 has the good old chip, otherwise you can go for the PM422 or PM421, both are the exact same, other than the mounts and headphone jack on the PM422
