I do a lot of work using large diaphragm condenser mics, so the folks at Maono asked me to test and review their AU-PM421 kit... (spoiler alert) it's really good. Since this is a USB microphone, it's the best fit for people looking to get started recording, without having to invest in an audio interface.

Thanks brother! Just bought one of the same kind. Only issue I have now: I do not have that kind of voice you are blessed with :D
Wow! I was noticed :D
I'm working on several videos using the mic. I will upload soon. God bless bro!
Which 1 is best pm420 or pm421 ?how is this different?plz reply
@@nitinraina1788 there is Pm422

Really really good review ! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot !!!
Thanks for the review. You have a great channel!
excellent review, just ordered this today via Amazon
Thanks for your great review about this mic. You help me to take my final decision to buy it. I guess it´s the best budget choice for beginners podcasters.
the best review i have seen and listed to.many thanks
Just subbed, thank you for the review!
Great review man, thank you!
underrated youtuber loved it thanks.
Bruh, you need more subs
Thanks for this review!
This is a Great Video 👍 I bought it and trying it tomorrow. Thanks
Really good review. Thanks, I just bought one.
Thanks brother for that wonderful review for the mic
Am definitely buying it after your video
Thank you for the great review I am going to buy it 👍
Better review than all those videos available on youtube 😁❤️👍
Great example of very good new channel quality
Me encantó tu taza de Superman, y obviamente tu review
you give a good explanation and not everyone does that in youtube videos. thank you for the good information
You're very welcome. I hope to do more. Just don't have a lot of time these days. Thanks!
I just ordered this mic after watching several reviews including yours. With a $15 coupon and a $20 amazon gift card I brought the total down to $85.08 CAD which in my opinion is an excellent deal, Canadian Amazon is always more expensive due to the lower value of the CAD dollar and all the taxes Canada levies on purchases.
So have you got it in yet?
ty sir you are a gamers savior i will remember you for millennium to come - but for real this is most definitely a very well put together channel it seams and even though I won't be a regular for your content, I'm certainly a new sub and will support you for as much as I am here! great vibe you are sir
So satisfying to get all answers are once ..
Okay, I'm the 370th subscriber and I can tell you're gonna be the best .. seeing you is nice to the eyes and hearing your voice is better than the majority of the other RUclipsrs ... hope you keep up and wish you all the best .. just remember this comment if you become well known because i have a really good feeling about that

You doing this job really great
hey man, very nice review! i'm sold and just added this to my cart! subscribed as well!
not even 1K subscriber full your video felt way more professional than what the numbers look like. Great vid, might get this microphone if the Maono headphones (AU MH-601) are good
Amazing review!! No second opinion required.👍
U did great reviews bro 👍🏻 keep it up.
May I know what software u use to edit vocals sound that u’ve been recorded?
😎 beans. Thanks for the review.
They have actually fixed the shock mount volume knob problem in the pm422 revision, which I bought recently!
Thank you Bro
You do great work
great review
i dont get how you have 402 subs your amazing
Best review !
Amazing review, actually i noticed a little diference between v63m and the maono (v63m better) but in general terms i thing maono because of the price, is good mic. thanks for the video
thanks for this
nice review like it very much
Just bought the 422. Seems awesome.
how's it doing rn
@@PizzaOfficials Lol randomly came back here now. It broke after about 4-6 months. Constant hissing. Sent it in and all I could get was that they would "repair" it. Got it back after quite some time. Still didnt work. Complained and got my money back, and threw away the thing. Worked fine when it was working.
Also, way before the sound got fed up on it, the monitoring jack stopped working.
Just bout an AU40 instead now, gonna see how that is in comparison.
@@ugglebo1198 oh so is it worth buying it then? or nah
Your voice quality so good
what did you do to make the mic sound so good like did you use software or edit it in post? I want to replicate what ever you have done to it when i get mine because it sounds really good
so what should i go for pm421 or pm422 , is it that headphone jack on pm422 useful or just a + that i'm not going to use it for my gaming channel 🤷♂️🤷♂️
thank you for your good review buddy, which camera are you using?
Thank you for the review!! would you say it is a good mic to clearly record singing (high notes specifically)?
I just bought this after researching a few mics. In every test I've seen on RUclips on the pm421, it always sounds so nice
WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE YOUR PFP
i CANNOT get it to work and detect sound! it dosent work, it says it is a speaker.... but clearly it is a microphone
@@K2Kassandra it should be instantly recognizable. Mine was literally plug and play, windows 10
Sam Loki do you know whats the difference between this version and the pm422?
Arsen El Mentalista the 422 is newer but the shock mount on it is just for looks, that’s why the price on Amazon is a lot cheaper than its original price
can I run a pm420 & pm421 together on the same laptop? I read that I can't run 2 of the same mics cause it recognizes it as the same. so I bought a Maono 420 and 421....am I able to run two of the "pm421" thru the same laptop? id rather use two 421's
Unfortunately, no. Unless there's some workaround I don't know about, I don't believe you can have two USB sources. Period. Regardless of the mic model. That's the downside of USB mics (or actually, the way operating systems are designed). A computer will only ever "see" one audio source from a USB connection. Now, that source *could* have lots of discrete channels, but in the case of a single mono USB microphone, I don't think you can "add" more to a computer. But please correct me if I'm wrong. That's why I still use XLR mics and a multichannel audio interface for most of what I do.
Closet Hymnologist someone told me I could run a 421 & 422 on the same computer through GarageBand
Amazimg man.... can you compare the fifine t669 with that? From Dominican republic
Dude great quality, video looks great and helpful. Just one thought: I skipped ahead to your rating portion and was immediately confused by your layout of 3/3, 1.5/2, whatever. Sorry if I skipped your metrics at a earlier point. I would probably just use a X/5 or X/10 format for consistency. Other than that great video!
Thanks for the insight. My goal with the rating system was to create a consistent approach that would weigh the most important aspects more heavily, but still ultimately come out with a "scale of 0-10" for an overall number. I've benefitted from this type of review system on other videos, so that's what I decided to do, but I'll keep your note in mind as I continue. Do you think I should I explain the system in each video (I expect most viewers wouldn't have seen another one of my reviews)?
@@ClosetHymnologist If you do decide to explain I'd keep it very brief if possible. I see why you did it, it just seemed a little janky to me at first. Maybe if you just went and put TOTAL SCORE: X/10 score at the bottom, beneath where you have your other metrics, it'd be more clear. I don't know I'm not a expert lol. Best of like and you have my subscribe though!
@@ClosetHymnologist I respectfully disagree with Judah's comment - I found the rating system very clear and I immediately understood that you were weighing the most important aspects more heavily (I wish that was something more reviewers would do!!). Just my 2 cents!
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for this review. I have been deliberating this package for a while now but I shouldn't as all reviewers consistently rate this unit quite favourably. My one question to reviewers is, "what processing software do you use" and/or did you try the Maono Link software and have any thoughts on it? Again, great revew.
Hi from Borneo🙋🏻♀️..Very nice vid.Which one Maono perfect for singing recording?
Thanks for this good review!
Would you say it's just a microphone for the voice or would you use it with an acoustic guitar?
I haven’t used it on guitar myself, but I expect it would do pretty well with the right placement. 8-10 inches in front of the 12th fret, pointed back towards the sound hole.
Would you be able to connect it to an audio interface? Like the Scarlett focusrite 3rd gen
So is it best with the pop filter that’s attacked separately or the one you put right on it
Hi, could you please tell me whether it cancels out the background noise well while recording an audio with music (without canceling out the music)?
I am an indian cover singer and was searching for a mike... Thanks for this video
You're welcome! Good luck with your singing!
Is this mic required a sound card? because I have a little latency issue in recording. I have purchased a M Audio SOLO sound card, but the cable is not supported. Please suggest.
WHO IS IT GEARED TOWARDS!!!! I NEEE TO KNOW!!!
They Say Online Teaching, Meeting, Livestreaming, Gaming, Broadcasting
I'm stucked please help me
maono au 903 or maono pm422 or fifine k678 or fifine k690 which is the best for singing??
I agree with your "one"... Love you dude. (Note: now it's $115 on Amazon)
Oh, that $115 kit is the one that comes with a set of headphones. This kit is still $79. Love you too, brother!
Is i need a speaker for output???
🔥🔥
Hello friend ... did you connect the microphone directly to the computer or did you connect to any card?
You don’t need an XLR mic to do a 2 person, or even 5 person mic setup with the PM421/PM422… or really ANY usb mic. You just have to know what software to use to combine and separate the multiple mics into separate voice tracks.
I don't hear any background hiss at all. Did you edit it out or am I not hearing it or is it that good? I need it for audiobook narration. I don't want hissing or static voice. Do you recommend?
I did nothing to the audio accept adjust the levels in a few places (noted in the video). There's got to be some noise ground in there somewhere, but it's barely there. It really is "that good". I am also in a pretty quiet room. I think it would be great for audiobook narration. I've been using for video voiceovers for several weeks now, and I still really like it. I usually bring the highs up a bit in the EQ and add some compression (but that's just for my voice, everyone's is different).
How to connect this mic to audio interface please reply brooh
can you make a tutorial on how you edit your video
For me:
Performance (0-3): 3
Build Quality (0-2): 1.7
Versatility (0-2): 1.2
Cost (0-3): 2.8 (Feel better if like $5 less)
using your way you seem to rate and my personal thoughts.
Does it pick up background noise? Also is it good for vc?
the last one the orange one isn't that good dont you think?
Maono AU-PM421 vs Fifine K690?
you can connect it into an audio interface ?
May I ask what do u use to do the video? Like the words that came out for the rating?
The video was edited with Adobe Premiere Pro. Recorded with a Lumix G7.
So can we plugin headphones to our pc and listen to maono while recording???
Yes!
Has anyone experienced latency problems while using a Maono AU-A04 mic with Adobe Audition ? I'm talking about delay when recording. Like for example, you record your voice to the project's tempo, but the actual recordings have a slight delay and dont match up with the rest of the clips in the project (there's a delay).
Is there a way to fix a problem like this?
yeah its a compatibility issue, use garageband maybe
if im not mistaken the nw800 is an xlr microphone. I think you messed up a knob on your " xlr module thingy" or whatever its called because I dont think it sounds like that normaly
Yeah, I know, the NW800 sounds kind of shockingly bad, right? I've heard some good tests with the NW800, so I'm guessing that they maybe just aren't very consistent. Maybe I got a bad one. It's EQ-able into something workable, I did another video on that. Thanks for the sub!
@@ClosetHymnologist hell yeah!
@@ClosetHymnologistthe nw800 sounds worse than my hyperx headset mic lmao. (i have the hyperx cloud revolver s)
Why do I get hissing in background on higher volume with mine? Did you add noise removal to post processing?
Nope, I didn’t add anything in post, other than just adjust the level up a bit as noted. It could be you got a defective one? Hard to say.
@@ClosetHymnologist I dunno all mics I get have white noise. Some less some more... Might be that I don't have grounding in my house so I'll have to go something like phantom powered XLR mic. Great review by the way.
Just a side note, you could easily do voiceovers for Lewis CK.
3:50 "so this kit and mic is really geared toward.....ALRIGHT so as far as quality goes..."
Geared toward what dude! lol.
Ha! Nice catch. I think I meant to say "geared towards people getting started out in podcasting" I guess that ended up on the editing floor. oops!
@@ClosetHymnologist it's all good :) i was just really curious xD Great video though :)
Does it work on Android? Can u please try it out and tell me I wanan buy this mic too😊😊😊
Will it be good for my deep voice ( rap )
Hi, does this mic work with an iPhone if you use a otg adapter ?
Not sure. I would think so, but I haven't tested that.
May I connect this with mobile???
does it make hissing sound?
what interface are you using where can i download it ? thank you
Nikki, the PM421 is it’s own interface, it just plugs directly into the computer. For the other mics, I was using a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 audio interface.
@@ClosetHymnologist thank you so much
im l00king at there au902 case can use headset with it i wont a blue yeti butt cant see pay 140. for it
Please review Moano PM422
Zero latency is a gimmick. To be honest they sound the same.
Can u say which one is better fifine k670 or maono AU when it comes to Audio quality???
I haven't tested the k670, but I've been pretty impressed with Fifine quality in the dynamic mic of theirs I have. I would guess they are fairly similar to each other, it looks like they may even be built with a lot of the same parts.
@@ClosetHymnologist ohhh ok thanks for saying 👍
can this be used in a phone?
One of the youtubers who reviewed this mic said that at 90% on the gain knob, you still have to be at least a few inches away from the mic. How true is this?
I did not find that to be true at all. As you can see in the tests, I found that it was plenty loud enough with the gain knob at about 60%, at least for normal talking.
I have the mic, if you are like 1cm away from the mic at 100% knob input vol, it will have this deafening loudness that breaks the 'soundstage'
Would it capture a air conditioner fan that is about 5/10 loud
It could. But you can get rid of that with a noise gate or using voicemeeter
you have a nice voice. you should be an audio book voice reader. lol
Thanks. I've actually thought of doing that as a side job. The problem is, I'm not a very good reader :) They'd have to edit me too much.
I just bought this Mic and it sounds great for the price. I've only got one problem with it. The mute button doesn't work properly. ill mute the mic and then it'll unmute itself over a few seconds. Idk if anyone has a fix for this problem.
oooh. I haven't had that happen. Might be a defective one. I'd try to get a replacement if it's not too late.
@@ClosetHymnologist I reached our to the company. Waiting for there response. Thank you for the reply
Can somebody answer my question,I’m thinking about getting this mic for making music so would this be a good starter mic?
If you plan on recording 1 track at a time, then YES, this would be a good starter mic. If you plan to grow your recording setup to include more mics or sources, then I would say it’s better to go with a mic with a traditional XLR output and get some kind of audio interface for it.
@@ClosetHymnologist thank you for the reply, now I made my decision!!
Please help me !
I’m stuck choosing between this Maono pm421 and the pm401, which one is better in terms of quality? And features?
As long as I know the differences are only that the pm421 lacks the 3.5mm jack but has the gain knob and the pm 401 viceversa.
Any other thoughts or recommendations?
Thank you!
Which one did you end up buying? I'm in the exact same situation right now 🤔
@@professionalhater66 I got the pm422 cuz it has both the jack and gain knob. It is the best choice by far :)
@@saulvelasco410 thanks!
@@saulvelasco410 What's the PM422's headphone jack for if I already have one from monitor speakers?
Can I connect Maono AU PM421to my smartphone?
Yes, with an OTG cable ofc
Does it have a Headphone port?
No headphone port on the PM421. I think they may have another model that has a headphone port.
Can we take that Mike from system and sing
will it serve to sing too?
Edward, I would think so. I haven’t done much singing with it yet myself, but if you leave enough headroom by keeping the volume knob low-ish, I bet it would do very well for singing.
its only like $45 on amazon now
Is it good for gaming?????
Yes you can use it for that purpose but if your purpose is gaming I would buy a Philips SHP9500 headphones and a mod mic. You would benefit more from good headphones over a mic unless you are planning to stream.
