I replaced my leads and rotors with genuine Toyota parts. The rotor on the right is a bit of a pain because the timing cover has to be removed. Keep up the great vids...nobody else on RUclips is doing 1uz vids.
Well done. I take both the covers off when doing it caps and rotors. Im trying hard to do even the basic stuff as you have noticed, no one else is doing them. Im really concerned about the knowledge on 1uzs out there. Ive been staying away from forums for a while but just looking i see so much wrong info out there. Quite upsetting for me.
Hey Kelvin, another awesome video for the people. Although I didn't need to watch this one, I did anyway. I like watching ALL of them because I always see something I didn't know about on the engine, like how a wire loom is run behind this, or around that. I've changed enough of these plug wires (leads) to where I know which way every wire needs to go, just like you. I've always used NGK and one time a very cheap aftermarket set. No more of that, next time I will definitely use OEM wires. I didn't realize they came with the front plastics and all the clips. It looks like it makes life alot easier having everything all together in one piece and at the correct length. There's not any videos out there on this engine like yours, the best. I'm looking to change my motor mounts on my 93 LS400 soon because of a wicked shake. Was wondering if you had any videos on the motor mounts. I only came across one but the engine was out of the car so it didn't really help me. Thanks. Damn, I wish I was over on that side of the world. Keep up the good work.
Hey kelvin great video! I’m from the states and imported a 1996 crown majesta with a 2nd gen 1uz I believe which just started smoking a good bit. Only has 63k miles on it so going to try to replace spark plugs and leads and go from there!
Thanks for the video Kelvin, going to attempt to change my leads at the weekend, hopefully it'll solve the problem I'm having at the mo 🤞 I've opted for spurious ones, as Toyota quoted me €420 for the set 😬 versus €100!!!
At some point Ill give away some tricks for the overseas guys to get the original quality leads at far less than the dealers pricing. Over here genuine leads are cheap. Funny how pricing works around the world
Thanks for the great vids, have a gen 1 with a blown gasket head. Your vids are a fantastic guide to sorting out the issues. Thanks for the help. Just one question, where on the throttle body does the oxygen sensor go?
Hi Kelvin. Love your videos and very informative. I desperately need some advice and or direction. I have a 1990 Lexus LS400, and I need to replace the fan bracket because the bearings in the old one are froze up for some reason. I've purchased a new bracket and have been trying to excavate parts and wires from the timing covers and am having problems, as I don't want to break anything in the process. I am in dire need of your assistance in this, if at all possible. I believe I almost have the driver side timing covers free to pull out, with the exception of a bracket that is atop the compressor. However, I'm running into significant problems trying to free up timing covers on passenger side. It seems that the whole air intake manifold needs to come out and I'm reluctant to do so without direction. If there is any advice, or link that you might be able to suggest, or send me I would be absolutely grateful to you as I do not have the funds to take it to a shop and am trying to do it myself. Thank you so much for your time. Cheers!
Hey Kelvin, just a quick one. I pulled a plug and it's a Denso PK20R11. Local shop told me to run an iridium equivalent, it's a Denso IK20TT. What do you recommend for a '91 UCF11 Celsior? Thanks
Hi Kelvin, I have a 1UZFE which is not starting at all. Engine is cranking and gives a backfire and then nothing. I suspect a faulty ignition coil, however any advice you could offer on how to do some basic fault finding tests would be much appreciated. Regards, Clinton.
hey thank you so much. what hardware would you use on the 4 little bolts for the ignition coils if after 25 years those bolts are stripped and unable to be re tightened
That plug next to the ignition coil is that the condenser? What is it’s purpose? Mine is a 2 prong but it looks like the plug from the harness is a 3 prong not sure if I have the wrong part
Yes, there is a condenser or noise suppressor beside the lh coil on a uz engine. Reduces noise interferance in the loom. Normally has a two pin plug with only one wire in it. There are other three pin plug close for the ac.
@@CartuneNZ ahh makes sense, I’ve got no ac so that’s why it’s free! I appreciate the response. Unfortunately I’m stuck putting together a motor I didn’t take apart. I’ve had my harness modified I wonder if this was removed? Is the connector supposed to be on the sun harness for the position sensors? Would like to take a moment to thank you as well for making all of these videos they’ve helped me tremendously so far!
Which spark plugs do you recommend for a standard LS400? I've had quite a struggle getting them out and want to avoid them getting seized again. Any tips on types or installation?
Can my spark plug wires touching cause a misfire I bought autozone wires installed them and I’m running rich having misfires under acceleration but if I floor it misfires don’t happen as much
Not sure if you'll reply on such an old video, but where did you buy the genuine coils from? I'm in QLD aus and just found out the coils in my 1UZ swapped Surf are from 92'.

1995 ls400 alternator not charging battery. Changed battery and alternator twice. Dash was tore apart and believe something isn't connected to complete circuit,? What should I be looking for ? I live the channel and am subscriber

Hi thank you for the videos i appreciate it. I have a 93 Lexus ls400 and The egr pipe broke can you tell me what is the easiest way for me to replace it because I’m having hard time getting the middle bolt off thank you so much
The easiest way to fix is take to a mechanic with little hands and tools to do the job.. When I do them I have correct tools for the job and while a little tricky aren't hard. Cheers Kelvin

There is a video just on caps and rotors and theres extra info in some other videos like the cambelt video showing the marks they line up with. Cheers

Which spark plugs do you recommend for a standard LS400? I've had quite a struggle getting them out and want to avoid them getting seized again. Any tips on types or installation?
I mainly use nippon denso iridium spark plugs which are the preferred factory fitment, with a little nickel anti seize on the thread.
