    I was going through a bad time as a kid when this movie came out. My best friend died at 14 yo in a car wreck and I was going to a terrible middle school in a bad neighborhood. This movie along with the first Back To The Future got me through those bad times. I watched it as much as I could and I was always inspired by Rocky. So I have fond memories of this film.

    • @magicspeaks
      @magicspeaks 4 года назад +2

      @@bombercountyblues I have run up the steps but would say it's more of a tourist thing. People who live close to the museum run up it as part of their workout, but I doubt many locals go out of their way.
      From what I understand the statue was always in front of the Spectrum once Rocky 3 (I was 5 when Rocky 3 came out) wrapped, except when Rocky 5 went into production; after Rocky 5 wrapped it went back to South Philly. I used to meet friends for hockey games and say meet me at the Rocky statue, it was a landmark and easy to find. When it became time to demolish the Spectrum, the city put it in storage as they discussed whether to place it at the museum. The Art Museum didn't want the "movie prop" but the unsilent majority wanted it there. After some negotiation the art people relented and it was placed at the bottom of the steps. There is a plaque at the top marking where Stallone stood during the first movie though.
      If the Spectrum was still standing I'm sure the statue would still be there. It was not a major issue until they put it into storage.

      Speaking of Clint Eastwood, how about getting some classic westerns on the playlist? The 60s, 70s, and 80s were a golden era for those. Seems like my Dad always had one running in the background. Those were the days.

    Oh man I've been waiting patiently for this for yeeeears! Excellent as always Minty, I knew most of them as this film is my childhood in film form, but not all of them so it was a joy to watch.
    Please, please, please do Withnail and I - it's absolutely rammed with behind the scenes stuff like Bruce Dickinson almost walking off the film, Richard E Grant getting drunk for the first time in his life to know how it felt so he could play Withnail properly, Marwood (I) getting fired from the part for sounding Scouse, so he put on a home counties accent to get the part back, Richard Griffiths only being in his 30s yet playing a much older man - even in the film you see a pic that was meant to be young Monty, and it was a pic from a film he'd done a few years earlier. Danny the dealers actor turning up with long hair and nail polish to get the part, the film being based on real life people with mad life stories. Etc etc etc, that's just a few of dozens, you could take your pick of interesting snippets. And it's a cult film, you'd get viewers.
