Welcome to the unscripted review era 🤠 What's everyone thinking of the new Neck Deep album?
Only reviewing albums I feel like I have something to say about, or want to cover. Might do The Smile next 👀
I'm on the same page as you here, I thought there was some flaws but overall great and I'd give it a light 4/5 myself.
Honestly I love neck deep but this albums very mediocre compared to past albums
You should do a review of the next yungblud song?
I'll give it a try!
LNOTGY almost hurt the band because every album after is going to be compared to it. That being said this one is still pretty good, a few great songs if your neck deep into pop-punk. I still get STFU stuck in my head sometimes so I wonder why it wasn't included.
If I’m not mistaken they said in an interview there was a couple songs that they made but didn’t put on the album so fingers crossed a deluxe of some sort including stfu comes out
This is the most I've enjoyed an album from them since their 2017 record.
I also agree that STFU should have been on the album but I absolutely love this album. Been on repeat for the past week
Agree this is a fun fast album. I think weaknesses is feels too homogeneous, could definitely benefit from some variation in pitch and beat (namely lower and slower!)
This album was a little bit of a disappointment for me. I rly liked life’s not out to get you as well as the peace and the panic. This album can best be described as junkfood pop punk. It’s a fun a listen with some good songs (especially heartbreak of the century), but nothing too special. Now I wait for sum 41’s Heaven and Hell
I listened to it right after Green Day the day it came out! I was very impressed. It was really quick, but it's still really awesome. Second best album of the year so far. We're see it stays in the top 10 at least by the end of the year. I'm pretty sure it will. We Need More Bricks is so accurate and a banger and is relevant to what's happening today. It's not going to be better than Life's Not Out to Get You and The Peach and the Panic, but it's such an improvement on All Distortions Are Intentional.
The Peach and the Panic goes so much harder ngl
This album was a major win for me, it honestly changed my view on Neck Deep quite a bit after All Distortions! I feel like the lyrics had more to chew on here (Take Me With You aside) and those hooks are killer. With the influx of watered-down barkercore pop punk, it's refreshing to have a band that embraces the roots of the genre and does it so well. I for one am excited to see them with Bearings next month!
I was very impressed by this, I liked each song on this album, and We Need More Bricks was my favourite song of 2023! Your least favourites are actually some of my favourites as well. Let’s just say I was listening to nothing but Green Day and Neck Deep for a week after these albums came out, it’s a 4.5/5 for me :)
Same 👍
I only recently discovered Neck Deep. Listened to their stuff just before this self titled album came out. I think this is their 2nd best album, it's punchy, fun and a few of them are lyrically relatable. This album has my 2 fav Neckdeep songs, Sort Yourself Out and This is all my fault. In my unqualified opinion, the album doesn't break new ground but in my mind they're doing what they do best and giving me an album full of it. Genuinely had so much fun with this album.
Having being a big fan of Neck Deep since 2013/14, they are from my home country after all. I think this was a return to good form. If we accept nothing is ever going to top LNOTGY then this is a very solid album.
I definitely like Dumbstruck Dumbf**k and We Need More Bricks. I also enjoyed Go Outside! By the way Jon, have you heard the new Alkaline Trio album? If so what do you think of it?
This album is so, so much better than their last couple. The deep cuts you mentioned (Sort Yourself Out in particular) are among some of the best tracks the band has ever released.
Loving this new style of review actually, just happy you’re still going to review albums in a way that’s ideal for you!
This is their best album by a mile
Best album in 9 years*
What?! Moody weirdo is the best track in the album!
gotta check this one out
Sort yourself out brought back nostalgia of old neck. Deep for ne
Hey um sorry for being off topic but have you listened to the new Glass Beach album?
It's emo adjacent to an extent with some math rock influences so I feel like you might like it
i thought moody weirdo gave me huge ADAI vibes, i wont like im a sucker for ADAI so i loved it, whole album front to back is great
“We need more Bricks” is the best song on the album so far, but yeah this album is a banger for sure, a few of the tracks are skippable but overall it’s awesome.
Summed up my thoughts perfectly. Gives more LNOTGY vibes, and I like the whole album, but nothing really stands out.
Honestly it’s tied with LNOTGY for me, no acoustic or slow songs is a very extreme positive. Nothing but straight up pop punk bangers. Can’t wait to hear some new tunes 28th March in London!!
This is all my fault - that's my favorite track on the album. It's nothing extravagant, but there's something about the way they crafted the melody that just resonates with me. It gives off such a cool vibe
Imagine if this album came out after LNOTGY.
For me neck deep is the textbook definition of pop punk. Sometimes for better sometimes for worse. But I know what I’m getting when I play them.
This was one of the best friggin albums of the year. I' cnt stop listening to it. Wish they were touring on the eats coast
I feel like it is sad that their are no scripted reviews anymore, but I feel it is very healthy for Jon.
I honestly preferred the feel of this review, felt like a legit conversation starter for all of us down here in the comments
Jon, you should do a video ranking your top albums of all time I’m curious what they are
Curious to hear what you thought of the new Alkaline trio album? I personally thought it was amazing
Great video man!
I definitely preferred this over ADAI but definitely not as much as TPATP (which is my personal favorite Neck Deep album)
i thought it was pretty mid tbh, has a handful of good tracks. definitely better than their last album though. LNOTGY and TPATP are still amazing by modern pop punk standards
STFU really should have been on the album, which is a shame because i really enjoyed She's A God and they didn't include that one on their last album either
TPATP was my favorite by them.
@@quentinbringthenumetalchil5125 sadly kinda overshadowed by LNOTGY. both of those are peak Neck Deep
Yeah it’s so weird that it’s the 2nd time they’ve released a single between albums and they are both better than anything on the whole album that followed
Yeah this was very mediocre I thought
You can still listen to the song, it doesn’t have to be on the album
I love the album
This band went from generic pop punk to GENERIC pop punk
Sometimes a band doesn’t need to keep going… out with the old, in with the new
Just wondering, are you still ordering the Best Songs in the description by how much you like them (i.e. the first song listed is your favorite on the album)?
Neck Deep is an amazing band
Im surprised people can compare their new album to their old music. This album sounds pop-pop with guitar. The last album was produced by the guy that did Selena Gomez and Ariana Granda and theyve just continued that sound. Ive been listening to them since Rain in July. When all the tracks were unique and stood out from each other. This album is just overproduced and generic. The melodies are the same, the hooks sound the same, generic guitar riffs, the drumming is quiet, and its the same chorus in every song. Theres no personality in each song. They all follow the same structure. Years ago they did a kerrang interview were they said they wanted to step outside the pop-punk sound and they nailed it.
This album sounds nothing like the last one. The last one was pretty universally disliked by the fans (including myself) for being a drastic departure from their previous sound. This record is much more in-line with TPATP and LNOTGY.
