Accurascale are irish railway models here in ireland and their stuff is a game changer for us.they also have an online forum and shop and fran from irm does be on it so we are kept up to date with everything and will answer any questions.
They are a model rail company run by train enthusiasts. The deltic is a fantastic model

Objective review and I think your weight about “scale weight” is a great observation; O gauge locos seem to have a presence built on this and Accurascale’s Deltic has similar characteristics. I think you are right about getting a sound fitted version from the start. Compared to Hornby and Bachmann, this is still good value and the sound results are probably superior. Wicked move to pull a bunch of vans, but then is is a Heritage layout! 😉

Very good video. I believe the Deltic from Accurascale influenced overseas brands too. The American Scaletrains brand included a magnetic rooftop for DCC access on their SD40-2.
I have a DC Deltic from the first run and a DC Deltic from the second run. I will just add cheaper, basic, non sound decoders to both of them in the future.

I got mine after Christmas thanks to whatever hell USPS sent it to. The box took a hit but the Deltic survived so... I think we should be giving them praise for their packaging too. Shipping aside, I think they nailed it. IDK if it was just my special edition, but the instructions and cheatsheet are some of the best. So far it just runs and hasn't had any issues-and should be worrying companies like BLI. Standard decoder, all of the lights that are lights on the 1:1 work, the dashboard is light (TBF they are on some of my Pikos too) and they managed to make a heavy scale loco that works. No jogging, no weak performance, it just goes.

Hi Craig, happy new year to you and your family, I missed out on the first run of the Accurascale class 55 due to being away from this unique hobby for a couple of decades, when I saw the Porterbrook livery model i wanted one but refused to pay the eBay tax for one, the announcement of a second run was great so I pre ordered mine straight away, the Accurascale class 55 is the best in class in my opinion and the price is so good you can’t pass one up, I did watch many videos about them and how smooth and quiet they ran but the ultra detailing would fall off, they still sold out anyway, the price of the models is superb for what you get. My model arrived on Xmas eve after an issue with a delivery driver, once I unpacked mine I was seriously impressed with it and the sheer weight, no details fell off and once I ran it I knew i had purchased a great model, the smooth running and clear crisp sound was a joy, i wish Accurascale would make lots of models but I guess that won’t happen anytime soon, what they did was seriously raise the bar and lower the price in this unique hobby, Bachmann do make some great models but I feel their prices are excessively high, they’ve started to use old mouldings and hike up the prices without a care in the world and their packaging is pretty basic compared to even Heljan’s, Hornby’s DP1 model looks the business but with the lack of spares and customer support which I’ve experienced personally I wouldn’t buy one, hopefully Accurascale will produce a DP1 at some stage, I don’t really care if it’s cast alloy, the Bachmann model is quite cool looking with the 8 pin dcc socket model commanding a high price tag, I don’t believe Bachmann have upgraded their tooling for the model in years just the main pcb control board. Accurascale are a very good company that will take the hobby to a higher level along with Cavalex and Revolution Trains, these are ultra detail manufacturers in my opinion that raise the bar without excessive prices, thanks for sharing.

I like the fact Accurascale sells the clips to hold Accurathrash speakers in place. I've got to buy the class 37 one now. Got crew, speaker unit and clips all ready to go. Im about to start work on a portable test track which allows running in and testing lovos, as well as track building and detailing techniques and all fits down into a hard suitcase which I acquired sort of accidentally.

I've not had chance to run it yet, but it has the loksound v5 chip in it, and three sheets of head-code options to cut out, as well as the infopack. Hi Craig, nice video.
I'm predominantly a steam fan, but when I got back into the hobby during lockdown I did think the addition of a few early diesels to my layout might be nice too, having had an old Hornby class 37 and Hymek on my childhood layout.
When it comes to choosing where to spend my money I'm always going to opt first for a gorgeous steam loco over a box on wheels, so they weren't top of my list, but I did consider the Hornby Railroad ones, which were affordable.
When it came to diesels I wasn't bothered about it being all singing and dancing, but I did think it was a shame the Railroad ones didn't have basic lights which put me off.
Bachmann's were far too expensive and I saw saw several negative reviews of Heljan models, so I gave diesels a miss, other than a couple of old Hornby 08 shunters which I picked up for less than £40 each on Ebay.
Then Accurascale came along. £170 is still a reasonable sum of money, but having seen numerous rave reviews I decided to take the plunge and got one of their class 37s in BR green, then last week I bought one of their Deltics (Ballymoss) and even got a 5% discount when buying it from Peter's Spares Ebay store.
I'm very happy with both, so have also got a class 30/31 on pre-order.
So thanks to Accurascale my small diesel fleet is starting to grow.

I like the Accurascale Deltic . Mine was first release but it is very fussy on the track . It’ll go round fine 3 times then derail , usually coming off the curve . Not sure if it’s the couplings or if it’s that the all wheel drive makes the bogies too stiff and tend to derail . For that reason it tends to be a bit of a shed Queen , while my Bachmann one still sees use .

I've only ever bought one Accurascale loco, the Class 66 Prostate Cancer for obvious reasons, and I'm hooked on Accurascale. Their detail is superb. I immediately ordered a Class 37 that is due November this year. In the meantime, I bought a new Hornby Deltic pre fitted with a HM7000 decoder from my local hobby shop as it was quite cheap and although it runs good and sounds ok, it LOOKS cheap. Just an old Lima chassis regurgitated. Good review Craig, keep up the great work. Bob. Nomad Railway. Ps. I pinched your magnet idea for the gap in my new layout so I don't need to crawl under. There's a light bleed issue, making it seem like the Deltic has white marker lights, which it never had. They should be red only. For me those damn chains were the irritation. Had to cut them off as and when they fall off. Plastic mouldings would have suited me. Same goes for Hattons Class 66 rotating axle boxes.

@@IronHorseRailways I would rather have nothing than something that doesn't work. I don't think people would have said Deltic model no good as no chains. Same with Accurascale Class 31 on DC with working fan that goes to fast. Nobody would have demanded a working fan on a £170 model but fitting one that goes to fast is a clear failure. I think with Accurascale trying to be the best stops them from being good.

@@alanrobertson9790 The Deltic chains come in the accessory bag, so you can fit them if you want, the hattons rotating boxes have been retooled in the new accurascale version, and the 31 fan only spins a little quick on DC, it's designed for DCC< but the next run adds a resister to help. Nothing stands still for ever, and no new little manufacturer can be perfect :)

@@mccarronfamily Its OK I'm a hypocrite. I say I like Lima and simplicity but I bought the new fangled stuff in recent years and Accurascale have done well out of me. I guess what you buy is more important than what you say.

@mccarronfamily , thank you , I did ask Simon Howard, he indicated there was not a cv fix, only a paint over or blacktac. If there is a cv fix please add it to the Deltic help articles on your website

Hi Craig, HNY. I hope 2025 will be kind to you. My 2nd run Deltic (D9000) arrived just before Christmas, and it is superb. I'm going to tackle detailing one front end this week, a task that doesn't always go smoothly... 🫣
PS: I forgot to say that I like your new approach to reviews (music, etc al). Informative, authoritive & entertaining.

@IronHorseRailways Yes they do. It's amazing what a snowplough or a few hoses does to enhance realism. My favourite look is a snowplough with the main jumper cable & screw link coupler hanging over it. This seems easier to achieve with Accurascale models than many Bachmann locos.
