Oh Mr Ironhorse, well done for squeezing it in there, as the Actress said to the Bishop. Nice running loco you have there. I have the Titfield version with sound, but what you did is cool Craig.

Nice job Craig. 👍
I picked up a couple of the next 18 chips going cheep but still yet to figure out which locos to add them too. It might go in Hornby's new locomotion when it arrives, or maybe the Heljan class 12... Nice to see the stay alive. That looks indeed tiny and will definitely buy a few of those as not all my HM7000 fitted locos run smoothly without (though most will). I was wondering which Lion at the start and see it's Rapido's. Crew next??
@@72Jspencer crew is a Modelu crew mate 😁
great vid thanks for share thanks lee
The stay-alive's from DCC concepts, great concept, and they can store juice enough to span a significant non conductive gap. If you run on DCC, but not sound, you can use the speaker space to fit the capacitors. Your 100% right about the length of the cables, I often find the cables the most irritating thing to keep in place and hide. As for the Bluetooth Hornby decoder, personally I find this the most stupid innovation made in DCC for following reasons. That Hornby needed an upgrade in their decoder range was evident, but the blue tooth antenna is ridicules and makes it over expensive and too big and for me personally not wanted. Most DCC stations can ad a common Bluetooth receiver, I have one for my Gaugemaster and one for my NCE, works super fine. And I get the argument, if you only have a few loco's, a base station is quite expensive, but if you are a train horder like me, and you have a significant amount of locos, the bace station becomes the cheapest option. But if you really want to fit in each loco with a Bluetooth receiver, they might as well could have made it as an optional plug in, even breaking the receiver lose from the main board, would allow even more jiggling room to fit the complete thing into tiny places.
Interesting point of view!
Stay alive's are good, but, when you look at the price of the capacitor's, which are pennies, the price they charge is very, very high, and does not justify the assembly and marketing costs.
Not everyone is able to make this sort of thing themselves, to a reliable standard - like many things in this world, you pay a little more for the convenience of having the product Ready made for you. By the same logic, I would assume you slaughter your own chickens for chicken soup? Or mine your own coal for your fire? Get the point?😁
The actual capacitors my be cheap enough, but you also need the matching control board, which is a bit more tricky!
Factory sound fitted had an esu chip, I believe
Is that right? Very good!
Hi Craig. Good progress with the layout .I would however put some safety barriers in place until you fully scenic that bridge. If you get a derailment you can guess where it will happen .
🤣 it's already happened 🤣 Something will be done sir! Fear ye not!
They’re just what I’ll need for the lift out section I have in my head for the new layout 👍 spot on

Hello just joined your happy band of modellers , can i say so far it has been a really good journey watching you . I am glad someone else gets as frustrated as me . But my philosophy is there is no problems only solutions . You are still young , you have still the drive just can i say lacking a bit of patience ? Me i have had to move my new build from the attic to a shed , the problem being that is will not fit The solution was chop it down to size . Simples . I have also lost half of my fiddle yards , had to cut down on the amount of stock i can run . My saving grace is i am retired , the downside is sometimes motivation (problem) solution kick myself up the ass . It is a hectic life being retired just when you think all that spare time you will have , guess what it was amazing how you could fit working into that schedule . remember that ols saying time on my hands , it is just another myth . Cannot wait for your next installment of ye olde Iron Horse railway , please do not spare them Hope the above will lighten up your days

Hi Craig, j bought some of these the other week to join track between baseboards. Do you have to use the holes for the droppers, or can you just have them unsoldered?
@@davemarson7241 I didn't use the droppers at all, I just had a feed on the removable section mate

Thanks Craig, I have had some of these connectors for ages but because of a slightly wide gap on my lifting section I didn't fit them. I had never thought of having a "fixed " length over the gap to just lift off the baseboard. Please keep us posted on the expansion issues.
I never thought of putting magnets under a removable section, I like it lots, thanks for the idea, I will use it on my layout😊

@@presidentxd that's where I'm going wrong!😂😂
I'm glad you found a solution, there are always several roads to a goal. But I have a few remarks concerning your layout, it's not to break down your work. An underly under your tracks will give you several advantages and will help solve a lot of your problems, and it still isn't to late to do this. A sheet of insolation board (20mm) under your track, these are less influenced by heat and cold. Than under your track it self cork (2-3mm) All these materials are relative super cheap at a DIY shop like B&Q or any other. Doing this will give several advantages, sound insolation, fine landscaping (heat cutter in the foam), the cork will create better ballast bed. You can also use pins to position your track, I advice against using track pins, as it's difficult to regulate the correct pressure, micro screw are much better and easier to regulate the downward pressure on your track it self. Unfortunately it already to late in this stage of your build, but I also have a very bad back, and it would have been better if you had hinged the baseboard, this would have avoided standing in strange postures bad to your back. And a last tip, always make sure you track runs flawless before you start landscaping, this will help avoid a lot of trouble and money. I hope this info might help you…
aww Lola , she's gotta be part of things now mate...in future vids

Great bit of kit,I have used them on my lift up section on an old layout.
Love the doggy, good tip that, going to check them out
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited worth considering Mike, thats for sure!
@@IronHorseRailways the line up is cleaver, I used to use raw PCB boards for joint transitions and just pins for alignment but having slots like that is a great idea
Great video Craig, love your doggie as well, we should see more of them 🙂
@@andrewcalladine2507 aye she's crackers 😍😂
I have some of those connectors to use on my unfinished layout. Great idea about the magnets. You need to slow down the camera movements as it was difficult to see what you were talking about.
@@Jaherick unfortunately, it's difficult to get the job done, and film it at the same time with the limited space available.
What's your plan for ballasting that area and it be removable still? Or is that kinda off scene. I've got the similar bridge to cross so to speak but the track ends at the edge of the board because its going to be a 5ft scenic bridge completeing my loop.
@@LemartesLogistics as yet I'm undecided, but I may just leave the track as it is but scenery around the area - the bridge will be "done up" but not too much for space reasons
@@IronHorseRailways I was thinking you could do the joins on the board edge and use alignment dowels on the bridge base and have it as a lift out section completely. You would just have small joins line like the exhibition layouts when the scenic side is done then. Obviously just a suggestion from where I see it
@@LemartesLogistics I tried that, it didn't work due to warping and a inability to get it straight enough on my part - this way eliminated the need for absolute alignment and dodgy rail joints!
@@IronHorseRailways ah okay fair enough, sometimes getting the levels right and stuff is a pain in the arse!
Totally get the back thing, knackered my back in that car crash, was thinking get 2 sets of step ladders to go up and over my layout, but I know how clumsy I am. A swing bridge feels limiting for things like scenery unless it's a simple field, so maybe a lift out section with these connections might be the answer.
@@oopster74 I'll see what goes on Sarah, something will be done that's for sure
From what I could see, it's an interesting device (no, not the dog!) but in the low light, and with you waving the camera about so much, we couldn't actually see what it was, how it aligned, or where the magnets you mentioned - were! It was just a blurry mess!

Personally don't like weathering, that's a personal choice, what I do though, specially with older second hand stuff, is improve the detailing, for instance a lot of models of the 80-90's have shiny wheel rims, those I chemically etch and darken, no paint, that won't last, and as sad in the video the risk interfering with the pick ups is high. Also shiny plastic looks with these older loco's I tackle, stuff like that. Figures from Modelu on the footplate, absolute fan, you can't get any better extra nice detailing. For me it's rather detailing the old stuff so it can run with the super detailed new stuff you can buy now. And if you want me to do weathering, no problem did it many times for friends and they all like it. The service from TMC absolute top, if you lack the skills and weathering is your thing, go for it. But what always astonishes me is, although you pay extra, the re-selling value always drops extra, why is that? Same thing as selling without a box, your model can be in mint condition, and on it's self it's only packing that's missing, you don't run a box on your layout, still it drop in value. Of corse if you start buying models as an investment, you've have chosen the wrong hobby.
N Gauge and O gauge. You are a cheeky Chappy. We both roared with laughter. At least he can climb into the OO gauge locos and drive them. On a more serious note, I always wanted a Lotus Europa, sadly once I could afford one we found I do not fit, Charlie would.
