i like that the Sonor has less ring to it naturally, unless its the way you guys tuned it. although, I agree that you should have the same tunings for a fair comparison
Can’t compare two completely different kits. The tom sizes are completely different for starters. Of course the much larger toms on the DW kit will have more tone.
The Dw design series is made in China just like the Sonor SQ series, Probably in the same wholesale plant. Dw Performance and collectors series are American made in Oxnard California by Japanese company Roland and they don’t sound any better than any other professional quality kit on the market today.
@@TheDeanHaemel You do realize Roland bought out DW about a year ago ? I believe. DW also own's Gretsch Drums. So the Design series , Performance & Collectors were being by built DW way before Roland bought them. And Roland themselves make top of the line stuff electronic instruments. My guess they wanted access to DW-e tech. PS: DW Design is made in Taiwan, Sonor is made in China. So no, its not made in the "Same wholesale plant" 😂🤣🤣
@@dilankarun9172 Thank you for confirming my post! And yes, that's exactly why John Wood sold out. Their hybrid electronics interested the foreign buyers enough to make an offer he couldn't refuse... They also own Gibraltar, PDP... Now all Japanese corporation owned. Buy American... Not Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese...
The Sonor Sounded better, especially much better with the snare. The DW snare sounds like dingdong the witches is dead .😮 DW snares are good, but they have to be tuned precisely preferably with the drum dial.
The DW snare can be made to sound like the Sonor (Choked) with a little damping. The ? is can the Sonor snare sound more resonant like the DW ? Having said that, in this recording the Sonor snare did sound better. But the overall DW kit looks way nicer and sounds better. At least to my POV 🙂
A little late to the party 1 yr later (Blame it on the YT algo's popping this video up). One kit is made in China (Sonor) and the DW is made in Taiwan. Are they really Sonor or DW ? I would have to say the DW is closer to American made stuff (HVLT maple, True pitch rods, Magna throw etc). The Sonor... the snare sounded decent, But the kit looks cheap . I've seen better looking kits on Alibaba... oh wait cha ching ! 😂🤣😂
Both of these sets are probably made in CHINA probably in the same wholesale drum factory with the exact same materials! They just slap on different hardware, covering/finish and badge. Lol
Sonor for the win. I own 2 AQ2 kits and I can say from personal experience they’re fantastic sounding drums with excellent hardware.
Not a D-Dubya fan, but they sound really well-rounded here.

Sonor all day everyday.

Are you guys comparing DRUMS or CYMBALS?
Sonor.. the sounds are deadening faster giving a clean sound for a better live or recording session when mics are hooked up..
I have that DW kit in an 8 piece double bass config - its pretty rad
The Sonor kit will be 50% cheaper than the DW kit....no brainer imo...
Sonor snare & bd, and DW toms for the W.
im a DW fan.
But the sonor sounds easy to the ears. DW sounds impactful.
They're very different, the tom depths are night and day, the snare does sound better on the dw, but the sonor bd is yummy
DW all day every day best built best sounding drums on the planet period.

AQ made in China, SQ in Germany. I’m confident it was a typo but an important distinction to clarify for those reading that may be unaware.
And the winner is: Sonor!
Sonor for sure. The sound is much more controlled and tonal. The DW drums have an overtone ring that, for my taste, is not as pleasant.
DW more warmth , tonality, low end
DW has there shells stamped with
Corresponding musical note inside
DW Design wins in this battle
Not a fair battle. 2 different types of kits
No comparison If I close my eyes Aq2 wins without a doubt
Maple vs dennis? 😂
no wonder we melted the alum with weld

SONOR drums ♥️

You're right. This Sonor AQ2 looks like a toy drum.

Dw
Sonor
DW far more musical than the Sonor kit.
Yo usu 100% dw lo mejor ❤
Screw DW. Overpriced and so little in difference
SONOR wins 💜
Take the cheap chinese heads off the aq2 and put on ambassadors. Then it will be an actual comparison..
NEITHER ... NEITHER ... both sound cheap.
Which drum set is best then
AQ2 sounds lifeless compared to DW in this comparison.
Sonar are not built well
DW clear winner
