Ghost break is very dangerous. In motorway from nothing the car does strong breaks, usually near motorway exits, where there are some zebra lines to make drivers having more attention. Those zebra lines are not in the way car goes, but the strong breaks occurring.
Thanks for all your great content. Here’s my list after owning my MY for 2 months in the UK, in which the auto wipers seem to work perfectly! 1. Auto rear seat heaters (easy fix) 2. Unlock the charge cable when charge limit reached (easy fix) 3. Add audio settings to profiles (easy fix) 4. Update the Nav to give a choice of routes 5. Update the Nav to give distance to next exit (like all other systems do) 6. Fix the voice command so the rear fog light comes on when instructed (it says it’s been activated BUT doesn’t come on)! That will do for starters. These are all minor things on a car that simply impresses me every time I drive it.
The things I would like on top of the windscreen wiper issue are: 1) An unlock charge port to be shown on front screen, when Tesla is charging. 2) Stop telling me to go straight on at a motorway junction. 3) A better way of scrolling down my massive spotify play list. 4) Release software impovements for Andriod at the same time as Apple. 5) Stop asking me to nudge the wheel so frequently when on lane keeping assist.
Windscreen wipers seem to have improved for me, not perfect though. My biggest wish is for the satnav to not continually tell me to stay on at the next junction. Just give me the distance to my exit junction
4 years since I sold my model 3 and I still find it astonishing that some of the basics still haven't been fixed. Merry Christmas and thank you for an excellent and entertaining channel. All the best for 2025
Thank you for all your excellent videos. Your channel helped me decide to get a Model Y and I’ve no regrets. But yes, auto wipers are a bit pants. Happy new year
I don't understand why satnav tells me the distance until I need to keep going straight. Just tell me the distance until the next turn to a different road! As for wipers, I've found that windscreen wiper fluid seems help remove the ever-so-slight haze that builds up daily and smears the camera, making it hard to see the raindrops. Wiping with heavy-duty windscreen cleaner myself is even better. I leave the setting on auto and only need to do the single-wipe button press occasionally to encourage wiping to startup
What you have to remember is that Tesla are just using vision to detect the rain….. BUT the cameras are just millimetres from the inside surface of the screen and can’t focus that closely as they are used to see everything outside the car…. So detecting out of focus distortion caused by anything other than heavy rain is ridiculously difficult. Other companies use a dedicated sensor for this purpose but Tesla want to use their mantra of less parts is best, which of course it is, if it works! But so far it just doesn’t
I have had my MY for two weeks, it was a lease and has FSD. Previous car was a BMW i4 and before that a 2020 3 series. I’ve found the autopilot pretty poor compared to the BMW. I used to use it around town or on B roads and with the BMW system, it was easy to go in and out of the driver assists without a load of bongs and warnings or jerky movements. The MY is only really usable on good A roads or dual carriageways or motorways. Hopefully future improvements will help.
What charge speed is the i4 capable of? I’ve seen some ridiculously slow speeds in the past from German brands - hopefully they’ve stopped selling rapid charging as an optional extra
@@justgetateslaMy Kona tops out at 100kW and it is never an issue on my regular 200mile commute. I can always get enough charge in the car in the time it takes me to get to the loo and get a coffee. If anything, I get too much charge at times and arrive home with more than I would like. The Kona is a company car and I had little personal investment in the choice. But I would highlight that the auto windscreen wipers work really well.
@@justgetatesla I had the i4 M50 which went to 200kW so not as good as the MY but also the Tesla has a flatter charging curve so the BMW dropped off quickly above 30% charge. My wife’s iX1 has a smaller battery but hers peaks at 150kW. Neither have really been an issue as we don’t usually do long drives and when we do we stop for lunch etc
Picked up my model 3 highland with hardware 4 and the auto wipers are even worse than my old hardware 3 model 3 using the wiper button more than my indicator buttons lol
Agree with the FSD comments, but that also applies to Enhanced AP. A 200 quid commander unit from a sexy button maker does 90% of what that 3,400 option does. The wiper blades, other marques use actual 50p rain sensors to do it, rather than rely on a less than high def camera to do everything.
Improvements to standard AutoPilot to get it on par with competitors. Curvature assist was a nice addition but it’s the only real improvement in a number of years. I know it won’t happen but EAP features should really just be part of AP in the UK, or allow UK owners to transfer the purchase to another car at least. Better to have access to our driving data to improve the system vs just having 2 features everybody knows not to buy due to UK laws making them mostly useless. The base AutoPilot is pretty good at times and I use it a lot, enabling EAP features like lane change and navigate on AP would at least keep them on par or slightly ahead of competitors until they can do real FSD (probably not on HW3 UK cars at any point as they’ll be so old by the time the laws change enough for it to be worth them doing a proper FSD here)
From what I can remember of vacationing in Florida, they have drizzly intermittent rain as well so Tesla has at least one great US place to test out similar UK rain. Have a great Christmas Ian!
I believe the problem lies in the fact that its the cameras at the top of the screen that see the rain/moisture/splatter and the software that interprets it, this is as opposed to sensors purely to detect raindrops.
I still would like an audio and visual warning for leaving your phone on the charge pad as you exit the car. It happened this evening as I forgot to pick it up and walked away leaving the car unlocked with my new iPhone in it !! My previous car ,an Audi, had this very useful voice warning. As you say it should be just a simple software fix .
My single biggest complaint for my Model Y is that when I leave the car with Sentry Mode active , it doesn't want to unlock the door when I return. I try and try to open it but no luck, but when I pull out my phone ---without even opening the app---the door suddenly decides to open for me. It only happens when SM is engaged. Beyond that , the wipers seem to have a mind of their own and activate occasionally with not a hint of rain.
Bit of a niche UK thing - Navigation distances in a different unit than the speed limit/speedometer setting. I can easily visualise 300 metres (or 300 yards) but what is 500 feet. Sure I could switch the system to kilometres instead of miles but then the speedo and speed limits are "wrong". And talking of speed limits, I'd really like a button to alert the car to a speed limit sign seen on a side road that does not apply to the road I'm on, or only applies during certain hours. I'm fed up of false "bongs" - Switching off the speed limit warning is not a sensible solution. A speed limiter would be nice (user-set not reliant on cameras - see above) - cruise control may be fine on U.S. roads but a limiter would be more useful on U.K./EU roads.
100% California East Bay drizzel makes the MYLR wipers go nuts. I say the samething- if they cant full self wipe a windshild how can i have any confidence on FSD.
I dream of a manually adjustable scale for the navigation map and I want the old power consumption app back. The new view of 300km is just absolutely pointless.
I agree with you on what Tesla should fix. Our winter in Québec.required wipers that should work much better then it is doing now. Merry Christmas and Happy new year 2025.
Wipers need sorting for sure. I’d also like when you add multiple stops into your sat nav, they go on that order. Not having to add them backwards or edit each time.
Software updates I’d like to see: 1. Native Video screenshot recordings of the display. Useful for RUclips, potentially useful for bug reports, hopefully not needed for insurance claims. 2. Unlocking the charge port without needing to dig your phone out of your pocket (e.g. using a double tap of the rear left passenger door, or the boot opener button, or even the charging port flap).
This is why I have little faith in FSD any time soon. The reason the auto wipers don't work particularly well is there is no rain sensor. Tesla relies on cameras to detect the rain. Because in Elon's world everything can be done by cameras. Where here in the world we live in cameras are only good for about 97% of cases. It's when they don't work with something as simple as rain or white siding on a truck that you need something to cover the gaps. Like an actual rain sensor, RADAR and ultrasonic sensors.

The auto wipers on my Hyundai work well, but can be controlled manually if required. This goes for the lights as well. But my son suffers from OCD and he has to control them manually as he can't trust the sensors!
Regarding auto wipers, I thought that most cars use an optical system to detect the amount of water, (diffraction of infrared beam) not a camera. I'm definitely not an expert, but if Tesla have used a camera technique rather than than photocells, then their innovative hardware solution may produce innovative (rubbish) results that software cannot overcome. My ancient Mercedes Benz (electric drive B class) has auto wiping on position 1 which often is suitable for intermittent light rain, but the other positions are continuous, at different speeds. And there is a separate button to initiate a single wipe. I find this acceptable. Regarding my collision warning system, it occasionally takes offense at UK ' keep left' bollards. Not often enough to be annoying, but that design is 10 years old. Yes, the critics will say that EVs don't last, but this one is set to outlive my previous MB diesel.

It's the auto wiper that is not working perfectly, you can manually set the wiper using the stalk and the scroll wheel
The auto wipers on my Hyundai work well, but can be controlled manually if required. This goes for the lights as well. But my son suffers from OCD and he has to control them manually as he can't trust the sensors!
You’re just bragging.. bet you’re gonna say you have fog lights & parking sensors & proper door handles and you can turn off lane departure. 😂
Roon ARC for me please Elon.
What would be great is a way to turn the seatbelt alert off when I have my shopping on the back seat.
Just fasten the rear safety belts.
The auto wipers will never be that great as annoyingly they don't use a sensor like every other manufacturer, they rely on the front camera.
