All very good points. In my 2021 Freemont built Model Y Performance, I also added the rear cargo shelf to attenuate low to mid frequency noise with some success. I also added a gasket kit for the doors, not so much for noise reduction but rather to help reduce dust and dirt accumulation on the door sills. The kit reduced the dirt accumulation by about 80 % making it well worth the effort.
Thanks for the video, I have a 2023 model Y and it make the same rattle noise you mentions but my fix is making the 4 bumper longer instead of make it short.
Thanks for the video and information. I also have a Model Y, but I don't drive fast enough to hear any Cabin noises. I only drive around town at slow speeds. So far I have not heard any weird noises inside the vehicle. Of course, I have the radio on while driving. Take care.
how did you adjust it? I have a 2025 model Y and sound is 67-69db driving 110km/h on danish highways. That booming resonance is driving me crazy. It's especially loud over uneven surfaces and potholes. I registre 62-64db in city driving on medium condition roads
How do you specifically adjust the rubber bumpers? Is it a case of just twisting the whole bumper with a wrench or is there an adjustment screw deep inside it ?
The noise in my 2021 model 3 AWD is extremely annoying, and it shocks me Tesla only started fixing this for the 2024 models. I cant imagine how noisy a 2019 model 3 would be as I know they started improving cabin noise in 2020 and further improved for the 2021/2/3 models. I'm going to look in to fitting acoustic tiles in the car and will try your trick - but different cars, so dont imagine much difference in my one with the trick. I can say though the Model Y - even a 2024 model is noisier than my 2021 Model 3. I recently tested a 2024 model Y and immediately was disappointed with the cabin noise. I was thinking about getting one, but the noise killed that idea instantly. The 2024 model 3 is much less noise - more like a decent BMW/Mercedes now in terms of cabin noise. The only two things i hate about tesla model 3's and Y's is the cabin noise and the very poor turning curve. Can be very hard to park these cars in a tight space where you need to navigate tight spaces and need a good turning curve.
I watched a video where a guy installed acoustic tiles into his model y, went through a very detailed job, but in the end, he reported it wasn't worth the effort. For me, the trunk issue really did the trick, but also, do not forget the trunk board as it further reduces the noise. I am honestly no longer annoyed with the noise. My 20in tired are a bit stiff, but i am ok with it bec they look amazing.
I added about 50 pounds of sound dampening material to the entire floor, rear fenders, rear lower trunk, frunk tub and front fenders of the 2023 Model Y as it seemed noisier than the 2021 Model 3 when driven back to back. I spent about 18 hours over several days, working just a couple of hours or so per day, removing carpet, seats, and rear panels. I watched a video first and the person suggested paying attention to the left rear fender/wheel well in the trunk area. Two layers of the heavy material were added there. It was worth the effort to me. The Model Y is now definitely quieter than the Model 3, which has had no modifications or added sound dampening added. I've used the brands Boom-mat and Siless and they work as well as the more expensive brands. These thin, heavy butyl materials are flexible and work well to absorb vibrations that cause noise. Don't bother with thin layers of foam, unless also used with a Mass Loaded Vinyl product as a third layer along with the dampening butyl layer.
My 2024 MYLR had two extremely low frequency noises. First a"buffeting" sound. An air pressure fluctuation like when a rear window is opened. The second "booming" sound was a kind of reverberation bass noise that to me amplified every imperfection of the road. I'm guessing this is different than the sounds that bothered you. It seems each car an individual experience these different. I added vinyl tubing and the 3d printed ridged stops.
I have a 2021 MY and most of the noise is from the 20" turbine wheels and stiff suspension. I heard it was improved in 2024 model but others claim not?
still same issue. I have a 2025 model Y with 19 inch wheels. The booming noise is so loud even on city roads. It's especially bad on uneven surface. On smooth surfaces its pretty quiet even at highway speeds but uneven surface just ruin the driving experience. The suspension is also too firm for my liking, not horrible but not anything like the competition either
exactly. I drove a model Y with Koni special active suspension and not only was the ride quality better, the cabin noise was significantly reduced. I thought about it myself but it will void your warranty and I don't have the balls to take the chance to be honest
According to Elon Musk, we now know everywhere you go, everything you say and all the time in a Tesla, driving, charging etc., is recorded and cataloged. They have video of everyone at the charging stations, the conversations in the vehicles and all the telemetry of the vehicle and they can find you and your vehicle almost immediately. If that is how you want to live, have at it.

I am glad you were able to find and make the adjustment to end your issue!!! Congratulations and thank you for sharing.
My 2023 Model 3 was doing the same thing…adjusted it a few weeks ago, and a nice quiet ride now👍

Great video. This is the FIRST ive ever seen this. Thanks for taking the time to share
Nice analysis and thank goodness it was easily fixable. Thank you for sharing
My model y performanc is built in Germany, 2024 and is very quiet, 62 decibels at 120 km/h. And I have adjusted the trunk lid before.👍😁🇸🇪
I heard roads in Germany and pretty nice, maybe that's why :)
How did you measure the decibels?
@@Twoideas915 iPhone and Apple watches have default apps to measure the sound level. Pretty sure any other phone is able to do that too.

Wow! and you didn't try to sell me anything! Thank you - and this... I'm going to try today.
Did it work?
That’s so true everyone is always pushy trying to sell something
To avoid this problem with my model Y in the future I'm learning now
How do you specifically adjust the rubber bumpers? Is it a case of just twisting the whole bumper with a wrench or is there an adjustment screw deep inside it ?
Twist by hand

I get noise when my window is slightly open
Did you try going through warranty?
@@dvader3263didn’t know you can do that
The shoddy QA from Tesla amazes me. Consumers deserve more for that price.
Thank you for the info i will try it now

did it help? If yes how significantly?
what year model do you have?

The problem is the suspension
They are so stiff that the make so much noise
Yes, they are a bit stiff, especially on 20 and 21 in tires. But it's a sports car so i do not mind.

Interesting. Thanks
You're welcome
Which way did you turn the gaskets, clockwise or counter clockwise
Clockwise. He said the stopper were adjusted too high from the factory so he needs to adjust the other way (clockwise).
How did you find the correct adjustment?
Just made the 1.5-2 turns on each pin and then checked for panel alignment
What year is your model Y
Thank you
You're welcome
Hmm.. ty
I will try it and update you
Please
