Having never played WoW and only played FF14, I find it actually baffling that this is WoW's free trial experience. FF14 leaves its free trial off in a BIG story moment, it ends on a cliffhanger. But more than that, it doesn't just skip to one of the expansions in the middle, you start with ARR, and because they keep the old content relevant with roulette's and also Duty Support, new players will always be able to progress through the story and get invested in the world. And then, AND THEN, the cliffhanger I mentioned? It happens in the SECOND EXPANSION. The Free Trial just... lets you play all the way through the base game and the first two expansions, all free. TO LEVEL 70 EVEN! WoW should try and take a page out of FF14's book and make their free trial something that grabs people and makes them want to play more. Because as it is, the WoW free trial looks boring and uninteresting, which means they're losing out on potential sales by not having it be enticing enough to draw new players in.

That is because the large majority of the wow player base does not care about the story, it is about gear, achievements, better ratings and even better gear. Quests and story are there , It is not like blizzard has not put comprehensive quests, quest hubs and so in the game for multiple interactions yet independently of the quality of the quests, 75% of the players puts all efforts they can to bypass the quests, the story and complain when they cannot and have to lose time doing quests instead of grinding gear to get ready for end game activities , ****even when at the start of an expansion there are 1 or 2 weeks when end game is not available. To be as clear as possible, people rush trough content to reach level cap and be ready for "end game" even knowing that they could take their time do the story, explore the world and so . And ultimately they cannot alienate their "hardcore base". The majority of problems with wow are player inflicted , every time - and there were many - that the company has tried to shift focus to other areas, the majority of the habitual subscribers does not follow.

Oh boy I sure loved running island expeditions hundreds of times to level up my necklace so that the upgrade I got 3 days ago can finally be an upgrade due to the stupid azerite powers, and having to carry around entire multiple sets of azerite armors to suit spec needs and AOE/ST needs because they got exponentially more expensive to reset.

i mean, BfA is one of the best expansions ever, don't see your hate there..
best regions ever made and very attractive cities... escpecially alliance one... farmer land, haunted land, sea stuff - its really only to love...
and the questionable game machanics aren't there any more... so noting to hate about that...
everything else... yeah... BfA as SL just thinks you playd 20 years of wow before, and wow really needs story modes to catch up and fresh up history
and yeah, armour got really bad... i think it was in cata.. or mop ... BC and WotlK had so good armour because it was nerfed to unwatchable so that even transmog can't help any more...
and questing was really good in BfA, very refreshing quests after all that demon stuff in Legion.. and much better than later SL... i mean everything got worse in SL, except the armour..
but yeah, i am allways pushed back by the 20 year old optics when i think of spending some time in wow again...
what really pushes off is that you level much to fast to explore any storyline... not even getting a complete history, but even if you wanna do a new twink and know Chromie and want to reexperience an old expansion... it just doesn't work...

ill give you that the alliance zones look nice but the horde zones look ass imo and the story / gameplay mechanics should be judged on how they were released and that was not good .
and yea questing was decent and i agree with you that questing should take a bit longer . and thanks for your comment i really appreciate it ^^

Bfa one of best expansion ever is questionable. Great zones, great dungeons, very good raids in general. However, the narrative story changed quite a bit, it started off horde vs alliance but ended with old gods. Azerite system was heavily criticized because it was extremely boring, and so many different shoulders while you needed just a couple of them unlike with tier sets where you just got your one and then done. HoA was SHIT until they added essences to make it interesting. I think legion was way better, the story never went off track for reasons players never understood + you had regular gear and TIER SETS and your artifact weapon which actually was generally liked by most of the people who played it, unlike with azerite armor. The only big downsides with legion in my opinions was the rng tied legendaries and all the titanforging, if they added vendors for legendaries that you could slowly progress to get the one you needed and removed all titanforging and warforging. I would have given it a 10/10.
Also, Suramar, one of the best zones ever who told an amazing story. I do agree that Bfa was good in a lot of aspect, it's just mainly the azerite system, the disappointing island expeditions and warfronts which makes worse. I just wish the story sticked more with the alliance vs horde element throughout most of the expansion and then they could have the cosmic threat of old gods or something similiar in the next expansion instead of having to change the narrative between every major patch, like i never understood why we even went to Nazjatar until it was explained in a video i watched while i completely understood why we went to Argus because Legion had a straight narrative throughout most of the expansion that progressed and built up more and more.

It was a terrible expansion. The raids, dungeons, art, music, and individual zone storylines are almost always high quality so it's really nothing special in comparison to a lot of other expansions in that regard.
Open world ilvl scaling meant getting more gear generally made the whole world tankier and you weaker.
Hundreds upon hundreds of island expeditions to power up your neck piece to unlock the same azerite powers you already had on your previous gear that made your 'upgrade' a dud until you got the neck level.
Third expansion in a row with the facebook gaming table.
Unlocking flying was an absolute pain in the ass.
The M+ Affixes were at an alltime low compared to legion as far as fun factor goes, and shadowlands had great M+ seasons (excluding one).
Azerite armor in general sucked, and gear that was 40+ ilvls higher was a downgrade if it didn't have the correct powers.
Honestly the expansion only got fun in the last patch when they introduced corruptions and basically let everyone become insanely op because they stopped caring about making everyone run the stupid azerite power treadmill.

BFA's story is all over the place. The whole horde vs alliance thing lasted exactly 1 patch before it completely swapped over to teaming up against a mutual threat again, this time old gods.
For someone going through on a new character as well, it throws cutscene after cutscene after cutscene after cutscene at you when you first get to the new zone hubs and it tosses around terms and names that you wouldn't understand unless you thoroughly understood previous content and lore.
As a starting point it's absolutely abysmal.
Art, music, dungeons, and individual zone storylines are all top tier 10/10 though, just at the time it released it was riddled with ass systems and terrible gameplay decisions like open world scaling up to match your ilvl so you never got any stronger. And as an intro to wow, it also sucks at that.
