- Glove box? Drinks holder?
Whatever your preference this video will show you how to swap them. Apologies for the sun flare towards the end of the video and the shoddy filming too, I filmed on my phone as a last minute afterthought as I didn’t really think it would make a video but Heather said it might help someone.
Hi We're Rick, Heather & our dog Poppy and we travel the U.K in our S&L Apollo camper van “Athena”
We film the places we visit as our own diary, these videos are meant as a little memento for us but we're happy to share them with you if you want to watch.
We're just an ordinary couple in our 50's filming our adventures with basic equipment so don't expect loads of flash camera action and super editing with great music.
We also film videos of work we have done on our van as well as van reviews for our reference of the next van we might buy. Occasionally there are hints & tips videos too. We do basic site and area reviews including if they’re dog friendly but they’re a guide only based on our opinions which may or may not help you make an informed decision on if you’d like the place.
We do a mix of off grid camping, pub stopovers plus real campsites too, hopefully something for everyone to enjoy!
Please leave us a comment on the videos, we love reading them and reply to each one.
We try to upload once a week so please consider subscribing to see our travels, it’s free and will really help us.
Thanks for watching!
thanks for the video mate , i managed to source one for £20 all fitted 100 % better its amazing how much more room there is !!!
Excellent result at £20! You’re welcome
1:36 where did you get the centre consoles from. My existing storage is broken, just fall open. So was going to replace it with the drinks one. But cant find any anywhere for my 2008 relay. Cheers
On a campervan Facebook page
We would miss the glove box too! We managed to find some fantastic cup holders, that don’t require any complicated fitting. Had them almost 2 years now & they have been a godsend 😁 Em 💜
The door cards are a lot better in this van so we just use them when driving 👍
Rick the glove box door/lid on the passenger side you mentioned, ours was the same, you can adjust the stops/catches to make it sit flush, I did ours soon after we got the van.
Oh ok I’ll have a fiddle! Cheers
I went the other way. To have a bear lock fitted to lock our manual cv20 in reverse I had to ditch the glovebox in favour of the cup holder. Great tutorial👍
I actually had a guy with a CV40 come to my house and I fitted the drinks holder in his.
Thank you for sharing that. Steve will be very glad that I’m happy with the cup holders which we use on every trip. However he is having to add an additional leisure battery and your Vlog from 2 years ago will come in very handy. Take care Gill
Thanks Gill. We all find we use space differently! Glad my battery video helped 😊
Great little Fitting Guide Rick, looks so much neater than the drinks holder.
Loads better 👍
Love that great job, we have a Fiat with the same drinks holders, you have used that space well 👍🏻
As I said it sits so low and steals valuable floor space
@@RickandHeather
Yes we have 2 small dogs that space is wasted.
Enjoy your vlogs 👍🏻
Thanks for that Rick, Very helpful video. I just need to source a glovebox now!
Believe or not on a lot of camper groups people want to swap for a drink holder!
@@RickandHeather I know. Like yourselves we need the extra room in the cab for the dog whilst travelling
I agree, the glove box is much handier than the cup holders, I'm glad mine has the glove box and I just use a Muggi on the floor for my drinks which works great ☺️
Yep definitely don’t understand the fascination with the drinks holders we just use the door pocket
I was unsure about changing the cup holder to a glove box but it definitely gives you more space.
Certainly does! And that’s important in a van 👍
Well done rick I would prefer the glove box too having driven Ducatos I prefer it as its useful extra storage
Exactly! Every bit of space helps!
I’m completely with you Rick, as someone who’s just changed vans and missing the glove box, the drinks holder centre console is such a rubbish solution & design, honestly don’t get folk who remove theirs to fit the drinks holder instead 🤔 I too have recently sourced a glove box and will be getting rid of the rubbish drinks holder & fitting the glove box instead sometime soon. 👍🏻
Yep agreed it’s a terrible idea!
Hi, most people prefer the cupholders but like you I prefer the glovebox and ticked that option for my soon to arrive campervan. Why? Extra lockable storage; more floor space; aesthetically more pleasing; there is another cupholder and the cupholder encourage you to have a drink whilst driving which could land you with a fine and points on your licence.
Exactly that, it’s a daft cup holder and it’s way too low anyway!
Big help, Thanks
You’re welcome 👍
Hi Rick ,If you fitted mine after my visit it was a 2021 not 2016 !!, Thanks again well pleased
All the best
As I said to you a friend had given me their one so I’d already fitted it, yours is in my garage 👍
I don’t even have that van but still watched🙄
Well I appreciate it 🤣
Think I said before, I was going to change mine after Ians video before I got the van and bought a cup holder but then realised you can store a fair bit in the glovebox so decided not to change.
Suppose the question is, is the cup holder or glovebox the upgrade?
Catch you soon,
All the best, David 👍
The glove box definitely wins for us!
Awesome improvement 👍👏😊💕
We think so 👍
Where did you get the centre consoles from. I cant find either for my 2008 relay. My exsisting storage one is broken. Cheers.
I think we'll keep our glovebox. If I require a refreshing cup of Assam or Darjeeling I find a convenient place to pull over and get the bone china out. I don't get how you are supposed to use those cupholders anyway. Where do you put the teapot?
That was the issue we had, our finest teapot in the shape of the leaning tower of pizzas was sliding off the dashboard
Nice one Rick, did you watch Ian's video to refresh your mind before starting. I don't think the left glove box fit on ours is as bad as yours but it still not great. Cheers K.
I didn’t…. I wanted it to work 🤣
@@RickandHeather 😂😂😂
Hey. Good video. We are actually wanting to go the other way…. Are you selling your cup holder part?
Already gone sorry!
What about the usb ?will that fit back in to the glove box thanks. Great video as always.
Yes it fits exactly where it was, you can see it in part of the video 👍
Way better than mate ,great job 😀
Trev
Yep cheers definitely prefer it 👍
Hi Rick, can you see behind that USB and Cigar socket when that kit comes off for the glove box? I was trying to get a feed for the left side of the van last week and ended up getting it from the fuse block because I didn’t know how to get to the Ciggy socket easily? Cheers
Sorry Tony I didn’t look… I wasn’t even going to film it hence it’s quite poor mobile phone footage but in fairness it won’t take much removing to look….
Well done Rick are you selling the cup holders I could do with them.
I swapped them for a spare glove box…. So if we ever get another van we’ll have one
Thanks for the vid Rick, always appreciated. Your glove box is as wonky as ours. Well done Fiat for terrible build quality.
As I said I’ve never seen a straight one!
That's because the RHD glovebox has not the same locking mechanism as the LHD one. Stellantis won't fork out the cost of tooling for the much smaller numbers of RHD vans. RHD models don't have a courtesy mirror in the passenger sunvisor where LHDs have one.
@@travelcampervansandmore interesting! I never knew that 👍
I would have done the same in your shoes! We use the Glovebox mainly for CDs etc. We use the little shelf above the Passenger Glovebox to put cups on when stationary for drinks! Bottles we drop in door pockets! Our Passenger Glovebox is a very good tight fit! Are you sure there's no key hidden in your RKE Fob?? the give away will be if there's a keyhole in Drivers door! Otherwise with a dead battery how are you going to get in (if a van that's not converted!) It would be the same!
There is a key yes!
Thought there would be! All vehicles have now days!@@RickandHeather
Rick those striker plates each side that hold the glove box shut did you get those with the glove box?
Yes they were with it 👍
@@RickandHeather Ah the guy I got my almost new glovebox from didn’t give me those, hopefully I can get them through Fiat
@@MotorhomeTrioI bet he left them on his van!
@@RickandHeather Just been out to the garage to check and Phew they are included, didn’t remember seeing them but they are with it 🙂 Thanks for the video that will help no end when I come to fit it 👍🏻 All the other videos I’ve found are people ironically removing the glove box to fit the drinks holder 😆
What about the usb point though?
It’s still there in the back of the glove box like it is in all glove box vans
Does anybody have a recommendation where I can get a glovebox for a 2022 Ducato?
They’re all the same from 2016 on, can be bought new but expensive (eBay etc) I posted on camper forums and the like asking for swaps
