Jo Koy didn’t need to be too cynical to be funny. Most of the backlash he got were attacks from the Swifties and some just got swayed from these opinions. Independent media outlets actually defend him and criticise the crowd for being too uptight. His jokes were nowhere as offensive as Ricky Gervais. If Gervais was the host, Taylor would be curling up in her bed.
That's why many comedians refuse to host because of the ridicule, bashing or cancel culture they've experienced from people who are hard to please and too sensitive😒

They probably offered him a 6-figure payday which he couldn't resist,, not to mention a great opportunity to be exposed more to the limelight. However his intentions were his expectations for a situation like this didn't match. The difference between him and Gervais is that RG didn't care if nobody laugh at his monologue or even if he had insulted or offended these hollywood snobs, RG went for their jugular. On the other hand, Jokoy came in with the attitude that he had something to lose i.e. pride and prestige, and he became awkward, nervous, went off script when his expectations of being welcomed with open arms and his jokes becoming a hit with the sitzy crowd did not materialize. He tried a Gervais but the aura of a Gervais was not there and he was apologetic most of the time for his jokes. He was looking for some validity in the wrong arena. But in the end he probably realized his mistake but it was too late. Still, he ended up laughing all the way to the bank. IMO.

EXTREMELY proud of Jo Koy Forever. Discard the diva Taylor Swift who cannot accept the truth. There are immensely great Hollywood actors who laughed and enjoyed. I didn't see any wrong with Jokoy's joke about Taylor Swift. It's not a joke but true anyways. We Filipinos are just outright frank. We don't sugarcoat our words.
Here’s the big picture. Each joke is a theme to every movie that’s nominated in GG. Without watching each movies there would be no context and people will primarily take it offensive without background knowledge of each films and I doubt every celebrities have seen other fellow stars film as they are also preoccupied on their own projects hence the bloodshed. The white people joke is the big plot for Killers of Flower Moon. They took it personally so it’s probably a historical fact? For the Barbie joke it isn’t sexist. When did toys have definitive genders? What happened to people not judging others based on their biological parts? Hypocritical. As for Taylor swift that is just pure pettiness on her part that it’s not a joke it became a fact. Really revealed the true nature of Hollywood and Internet Cancel Culture after one revealing night of pettiness for a few missed jokes that isn't even his writing. It's fantastic. Screw the writers but he needs to own the jokes as well. He doesn't need to apologize. It's part of the gig with less prep time. Other GG hosts roast with no remorse. So what's different this time? Lots factor comes to mind but some are more obvious than others.
