Met JoKoy when he came to Philippines. Not necessarily a big interaction but it was wholesome. He was walking at a mall with his PAs and I shouted at him "JoKoy get out of the goddamn footlocker" He laughed, waved at me and told one of his PAs to give me his scarf. It still is here. And I treasure it.
I bet that show in the Phillipines was so filled with joy for all involved. That would be amazing to be a part of.

My best friend from hs, her mother is Filipino and her father was white who met while he was serving in the USAF. Her mother Alice practically adopted me the last 2 yrs of hs because my dad kicked me out. I loved her like my own mom. Watching Jo Koy describe his mother is Mama Alice to a T. She may be 4'11" but a force to reckon with. A great big heart but a tongue like whip. She cared for all 4 of her kids + 1 and I will always be grateful for her. 💖

I always thought the loud voice of a Filipino mom is normal. Am guilty of that and when my children ask me why am I on top of my voice, i always answer "This is my normal speaking voice!!!!!! and matanda na ako, nabibingi na ako!!!! Ha ha

What a refreshing message. I'm a daughter of Italian immigrants and I love Joe Koy's comedy because it's so universal. What I wasn't expecting was a mother who clearly got things so right, she could admit what most parents never get over. Some might say, yeah that's only because he became successful, but my own professional journey and training naturally looks a little deeper. This is a mother who instilled the work ethic of needing stability and reliability as a foundation, but never lost the twinkle in her eye about truly living life and engaging the village you are in even if you no longer find yourself in the one you were born in. Her message for the Filipino community was beautiful because it was genuine and I felt like she wasn't just seeking support for her people in a divisive way, but rather speaking to the collective and honoring her sector of it and speaking on their behalf as all peoples of the earth deserve to be included as a community within the collective. When she spoke, my heart opened as a child of immigrants, as woman, as a person who has both offered support and needed it of others. Joe Koy's comedy is an asset to our global society because his mother didn't raise a kid, she nurtured and cared for and cultivated a conscientious global citizen that we frankly need more of. Jo can put himself up there with the real greatest of comedy, those who made a platform for humanity and an opportunity to identify and heal the wounds we all get a chance to have. Awesome! This may sound weird, but as a white person growing up in the 90s in a very white part of the US, watching comedians of color was a big part of how I learned about their cultural experiences and perspectives. I still love comedy, and Jo Koy is hilarious! It’s cool to see his mom react to his show and to see how well he captured her essence in his bits.

My step dad was half Filipino and his mom was elderly and lived with him. When we moved in I got to spend alot of time with his mom and she was about 4 ft tall but man she was hilarious. She never lost her accent either XD and thats why me and my stepdad die laughing at Jo Koy because we just see my stepdads mom. She was special and she cooked the most amazing food. I will never forget her she almost felt like another grandmother to me.

I love being able to put the face and voice to his mom. Makes his jokes so much funnier! His mom actually reminds me of my Italian grandmother
I could never stay mad at my mother in law as soon as she tried to swear in english and her p and f pronouncing issues kick in i laugh everytime including in the middle of the argument. Her daughter and i have been divorced for 20 years but we are still mom and son.
It's so sweet that you remain in each other's lives.
Same with my ex’s mom. She’s still lola to our kids of course and she and I learned to respect each other. It’s hard to have two head strong women in the same house.

I had the enormous privilege to serve with MANY filipinos in the Navy. I can't say enough how muther truck'n HARD they work. It was always a bittersweet pleasure to be outworked and out-schooled on a daily basis. Mad respect.

I was in the Marines and ended up in Virginia Beach near the largest Naval Base in the world. 🌎 Lots of Filipino friends and neighbors as well. Fell in love with Jo Koy and his mom… felt right at home 🏡 watching them.
Did you happen to meet, served with, or served under Filipino commissioned officers in the Navy?
Beyond that, I will add that the are some of the nicest, generous people. I totally enjoy the culture, the foods for sure, and it's a pleasure to have Filipino friends.

Lol the yelling is so spot on.😂 Growing up I thought my parents were always arguing but they'd tell me "we're just talking." Us Filipinos are just passionate people and we emphasize that through yelling.

Wow. I've never heard a mother speak the way she does aside from myself to my own son. How impactful she possesses so much wisdom and she is so poignant in the way she speaks. That right there is a real woman and a real mother. This was so cool to watch I'm glad we finally got to hear from her.

Your an amazing Mother❤️. Your the type of Mother who raises children that know Love, honesty, respect and discipline. I'm not nor was my Mother Filipino, but the way you raised your children are the same. I lost my Mom when she was only 41. And her Sister the year before that at 41. I'm almost 50. I would like to thank you for your Son. His comedy bits about you and his upbringing make me feel like she is still with me. This to me is more than comedy. What a nice lady and so great the she supports her son. She is right you don't always need a degree to be successful just have to work hard. I have met so many Filipinos through my work and been to the Philippines 3 times and now moved here. He is right on with his jokes and they say the best comedy is real life events.

I can relate as a child of a mother that was abandoned by her husband and worked 2 jobs, so rent and food was put on the table today she has 3 professionals daughters because her unrelenting love covered us all. I start the video laughing but end up crying. Oh God I miss my mama so bad. I guess most Filipino mama are like this specially the nagging when you lost something be prepared to listen to a lengthy sermon from them also they will always include "You know back our days..." and it's quite annoying yet a mind opener of how blessed you are for your parents tried their best to provide you with your needs it may not be all the time but they tried all the way. I just miss my mama who is now in heaven, you know I'll do anything to have her back again (even just for a while) and hug her even hear her nag hahaha.

You are a treasure! You know, it’s not just Filipino moms, it’s all moms. We love our kids so much, we don’t want them to suffer in life the way we have so we try very hard to let them learn from our mistakes. It’s sometimes we get to feel those mistakes twice because when your child goes through something the mother does too emotionally.

I saw Jo's first Comedy Central Special, he had me crying laughing talking about him mom, and his son. I'm glad to see his mother, and that she takes all the jokes in stride, and lovingly supports him. Way to go Mom, you did a great job raising a fine son, and human being. ❤
I can't speak for those half filipinos from America but those of us half bloods who grew up in Africa can relate with that Vicks vapour rub joke bruh. When mom moved from Philippines to South Africa, she brought all her traditional medical knowledge with her. Plus when she was agitated with me, she would use her vernacular 'P*sti ka! Y*wa ka!' which I didnt understand till I was like 12.
