  • In this video I will be going through 5 of the largest freshwater fish in the world. There are many giant freshwater fish in the worlds rivers and lakes but what fish is the biggest freshwater fish in the world? This is actually a very hard question to answer as monster fish come in many different shapes and sizes and two fish from the same species can vary in size drastically from one another.
So in this video I will be going through 5 river monsters that are thought to be the largest freshwater fish in the world. I will be including the red tail catfish, the giant snakehead, the dorado, the Cuban gar and the large tooth sawfish in this episode.

The first giant fish on the list is the red tail catfish. Out of all the fish i have featured in this series so far the red tail catfish has to be the most popular fish in the aquarium trade. This river monster is a very hungry fish and feeds on a large variety of foods in the amazon river.
For our second monster fish we will be staying in south America as we have the dorado. The dorado is a member of the tetra family as is named the dorado for it's golden colouration. This river monster has large teeth and powerful jaws and is one of the many predatory fish in the amazon river.
For our next large fish we will move to pretty much all tropical and sub tropical coastal areas as we have the largetooth sawfish. Sawfish can survive in both fresh and salt water but normally spend there time in between both as they are normally found at river mouths or brackish areas. Most sawfish species are now critically endangered thanks to over fishing and habitat loss. Their long toothed rostrum also gets caught in fishing nets very easily.
For the next monster fish we will move over to south east asia as we have the giant snakehead. The giant snakehead is a apex predatory fish and feeds on a wide variety of prey including other fish and amphibians. Giant snakeheads also have a soft side as they are some of the best fish parents in the world.
For our final river monster we will be heading over to Cuba as we have the Cuban gar. The alligator gar is the largest species of gar but the Cuban gar comes in a close second. The Cuban gar is also the rarest species of gar only being found in Cuba and just like the alligator gar they have poisonous eggs to help to ward of predators.
What do you think the biggest freshwater fish in the world is?
Let me know down in the comments below?
Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed :)

The giant snakehead is also said to eat their own fry but in fact, it just holds the fry in their mouths when they sense danger. When the danger is gone, they let the fry out again.
Another reason to call them good parents

Snakeheads are awesome. I went bowfishing for Northern snakeheads in Maryland, and they get real big feasting on the bountiful wildlife in the swamps which they inhabit. If they weigh over 10 lbs we call them dragons, pretty fitting. Also, they taste great; they’ve got a meaty flavor for a fish, but the flesh is still soft, white and moist. 10/10 will eat again.

In Malaysia and Indonesia large specimens are called "Penunggu" of their area, this word means Guardian
A group of otters will get out of the water when they see the red fryball, as the otters can be attacks and the young ones can be eaten. If the parent fish feel threaten
A story my grandpa told me when he caught his first giant snakehead he didnt know what it was as he lived in an estuary village and giant snakeheads are rare there
He didn't dare to eat it as he thought it was a river spirit and kept it as a pet until a Chinese person told him what it was. Then the fish got stolen by some kid and died
