I ordered some, but thought we'd try trolling with 6&8 xd. We caught 2-3lbrs, one was almost 4 and a 5.3 LMB. Tomorrow we'll try marking and fishing the spots we catch them on. I'm Sold on the sytem, but with AT2, we don't need every size spoon plug. Thanks for keeping this alive!

Cool they still make the lures today. I was a disciple of Buck's theories on structure fishing. All before sonars and finders existed. He received tremendous push back at the time ironically.

Great video! I catch a ton of fish with Spoonplugs. I learned how to use them correctly along with the right equipment and have never looked back! They are the best crankbaits that I have found for casting and trolling!

I first heard of Buck Perry when I was a kid in the 1960s. Spoonplugs catch everything, bass, panfish, walleye, pike and muskies, carp, catfish. I still use them.
Very nice bio piece on Buck.
@17:04 Get rid of the snap-swivel. It kills the action of the spoonplug. Use only a snap to attach the lure. Put the swivel further up the line.
Read Buck's book. It explains everything.

These have intrigued me since I saw some pictures of them in the “Fishing and Hunting Library” book titled “Artificial Lures” back when. They are rather different than anything else. Not quite a spoon but not quite a crankbait. I have been contemplating getting a couple to try for years, but I don’t troll, just bank fish. You may have inspired me enough to try one by casting it from shore.
I had come across their website a little while back and was surprised they were still in production. Nice to see some of the older lures live on.
Thanks and hope to see you catch something on one in part two.

I think it’s definitely worth trying one. I would personally start with the smaller sizes and cast from the bank. Even though they’re small in size, they’re made of brass which helps launch them out a mile. Thanks for watching! Good luck.

Cool video. I remember seeing Buck Perry's articles in the old Fishing Facts magazine when I was a kid. My Dad had a few of his spoonplugs but I never really got into the aesthetic of the lure until I was much older. Now I cherish those lures my Dad had. Have Perry's book too. I've been meaning to buy a set of his lures and course from his website, but just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

While the tackle used is primitive and techniques are ancient it's actually a productive way to catch big fish. I had not Spoonplugged in almost 30 years due to constant job-related moves away from originally living in the Midwest, but last summer I plugged with a friend who has a place at Lake James in Indiana that never fishes and we both caught pike around the 10 pound weight range. That with ancient Penn 109 reels, Buck rods and lures, and a portable flasher. Truly amazing how Spoonplugging stands the test of time.

one last comment You or I cannot fish a spoonplug using a steering wheel boat. a Gas tiller only the electric in the kayak just cannot go fast enough I cannot count the number of fish I catch at 5.6.7 mph

If spoonplugging is really the truth about fishing, '' your guide to lunker catches '' why hasn't it caught on in a big way instead of remaining just a very, very small cult ?
