Hauptstrecke - München to Augsburg Review ~ Train Sim World 3

  • This is my hot take on the HMA add-on in Train Sim World. Released almost three years ago, it is a short (62 kilometre-long) linear route, only going from München to Augsburg with no branch lines whatsoever.
The route is utterly spoiled by the appalling amount of missing overhead wires, and if you don't buy other add-ons, the timetable is far too spartan. By default it just looks wrong with only the ICE and S-Bahn trains present.

I've been to München and the part between Pasing and HBF is incredibly busy with a lot of different rolling stock. So disappointing to see how empty this is in TSW

there are so many interesting lines in Southern Germany and DTG decided to build one of the most boring ones... and seeing no AI in Munich is super weird

The lack of Munich Hbf low level is certainly disappointing - the kind of corner cutting we see to often with TSW. The layered in trains make for decent substitutes for the actual stock in place, but now that there's more German stock, we need a timetable review - ICE1s, Intercities, 442s, 612s and n-wagen would all fit on the route

There's already three variants of the Talent 2 in TSW. I would've thought the 4-car DB Regio variant would be suitable for this route. As for the lack of the underground S-Bahn stations, there was no reason to leave them out of the TSW route.

    • @nwsimon

@@DC4260Productions the talent would be more for AI, as it operates services to Garmisch. Regio services were formerly 440 Coradia units and 111s with Dostos - now they're operated by GoAhead with new Siemens units

This route even had layer problems on Gen 8 consoles, where the problem was adding more layers would increase the memory requirement. So adding new and current locos to the route on old consoles was impossible. But Gen 9 and PC have improved that.

At this point I’ve just accepted that DTG will never make a good route with scenery and a decent timetable. upon release atleast, unless it’s the UK or some German routes. It’s like dovetail just shove there fan base aside with good suggestions, just so they can continue making linear routes.

I live along the line in Olching (between Pasing and Mammendorf), where the freight line branches off to Munich North (Of course there are no trains there in TSW :)).
The fact that some ICEs stop in Pasing and some don't is indeed realistic. However, the majority stops there.
Between Pasing and Hackerbrücke (or Ostbahnhof), numerous other S-Bahn lines are still missing:
    S6 Tutzing - Ebersberg (20 min intervals)
S8 Herrsching - Munich Airport Terminal (20 min intervals, during rush hour every 10 min)
between Laim and Ostbahnhof are missing:
    S1 Freising/Munich Airport Terminal - Leuchtenbergring (20 min intervals)
S2 Petershausen/Altomünster - Erding (20 min interval, during rush hour every 10 min plus one additional train per hour outside rush hour, results in 4 trains per hour)
and between Donnersbergerbrücke and Ostbahnhof missing:
    S7 Wolfratshausen - Kreuzstraße (20 min interval)
In Pasing, the S20 also branches off (Höllriegelskreuth - Pasing), which would be visible on the outer tracks as far as Hirschgarten. In addition, some trips of the S20 run along the S4 line to Geltendorf/Grafrath/Buchenau. In the morning, there is a trip from the direction of Buchenau that runs from Pasing to Munich Central Station without stopping. This is split in pasing with one train part to the main station and one to Höllriegelskreuth. Whereby the S20 (as well as the interval amplifiers in the rush hour) mostly run with the older vehicles of the 420 series.
The complete timetable in TSW does not fit at all in terms of travel times. The intervals are correct, but only Dovetail Games knows why they decided to use completely different stopping times...

I did get this route on a sale about two years ago and I say that you brought up many good points in the review. I do think this route was rushed although I do enjoy it when I play it. I mainly enjoy the S3 services. The ice services are too short
I just wish they included the full s3 line at the very least and tsg is making the db br 420 for this route although that was announced two years ago.
I do agree with the assessment that dovetail seems to care more about how much money they can make rather than delivering a consistently good product. It’s a shame really but until there is proper competition, then i don't see them changing their habits

This was one of the first German routes I got (other than Köln-Aachen), mainly got it for the ICE, but, it felt rather lifeless especially without the other add-ons at first. I concur about the lack of low level platforms at München Hbf, which would of made it slightly better, but I stress, slightly. Again, that's Dovetail for ya. And when is the BR 420 coming, granted it won't improve the route, but will make it a bit more bearable

13:28 From videos I've seen from a guy who drives the DB BR 420, and 423 on the Munich S Bahn, they mostly do full acceleration, although the timetable is tight, you can save time by not waiting when it says wait till so on. Trains in real life run every 10 minutes on rush hour, and every 20 minutes for the rest of the day, so in theory it does make sense. Although I do understand why you may not like how tight it is.

I see just recently this route got updated. Looks like they finally fixed the catenary pole between track 13-14 in Munich Hbf (12:06), no longer clipped inside the player train. Took them long enough. The overall feeling throughout the route still feel like dead city tho.

What's even more linear is The Manchester-Glossip DLC only 21kms and unless you have other UK themed add-ons you only get The Class 323. Granted that Northern have an allocation of 323's but still.

at this point I don't even want dt to try and make more routes, the general quality of their stuff is just so crap, why can't we get some of the original tsc affiliate dev teams to do some more stuff?

    • @potatoman451
      @potatoman451 Год назад

Several have joined and made stuff already. It's 3rd parties decision to join or not. Dtg can't just force them. Even if they had joined, it's several years of just learning unreal engine. It took just trains more than a year to learn the tools. Plus they have to see if it's financially viable. A 1 person team for instance might not want to join because reasons. It's too much work and they get little in return.
