If you have class 66, you also get some freight runs on this branch line. Very limited but you do have a freight yard just past Guide Bridge if you stay on the route up to Stalybridge which is off the map. They are some short runs up to Ashbury, or services that run through Manchester Piccadilly, platform 14 toward the container yard at Old Trafford. It also layers for traffic which is realistic for them congested platforms 13 and 14. You'll often see freight services running through them around the busy passenger lines.
Also the RHTT from SEHS layers onto it, and it's the only non-323 service you can drive to Hadfield, there's also some Railtours for both the Class 40 from the BR Heavy Freight Pack from NTP and the LMS Jubilee from Spirit of Steam
I think it is overall decent, and I found that you can do a round trip in about 80 minutes from when I timed it. I would go into Free Roam and then switch cabs before the AI did it, and go on from there.
Hello, I'm from Manchester and can confirm that the 323 in this game is *WAY TOO QUIET*, also I haven't heard a compressor? The route looks accurate enough, but some of the stations are too clean, including Ashburys, where the platforms are a patchwork quilt of different tarmac, and Guide Bridge, missing all the stuff that the preservation team have added there, including but not limited to: A fully restored 5-plank open wagon in the car park A new flower garden where the old platforms 3 and 4 used to be A replica signal gantry which they plan to install on said flower garden And the signs for the Woodhead Line Railway Museum on the station buildings at Platform 2
I play TSW3 a lot and I'm always looking for addons and these videos really help to make decisions on what the different routes are like and which ones I want to buy. Thanks from Wellington :)
I feel like this is a route that can easily be forgiven of its flaws purely because of how much cheaper it is compared to a normal route. With route prices going up from TSW2 to TSW3, it's amazing to see a recent release have the same price as the original Isle of Wight and the West Somerset Railway. It's probably more fun to drive than those other two as well, the 323 is a lovely little unit. On a side note, I find it interesting that along with this route being sold at a reduced price, the upcoming Class 700/0 will be at a price cheaper than all the locomotive add-ons that released for TSW 2020. It's very unlike DTG to release several pieces of content for a notably cheaper price than usual.
There will always be a unique if not alien feature about The Class 323's it's traction motor sounds that make them stand out from even The Class 465/2 and 465/9 Metro Cammell built Networkers.
They could have got more out of this if it had been set in the 1990s, since class 47, class 101s, & sprinters (possibly Pacers too after the JT route) could be layered on passenger with class 31, class 37, and class 47 layered on freight to make the Piccadilly area look busier. It does help that the current Alstom transistor based inverters were programmed to operate identically to the original Holec GTO thyristor based inverters with the benefit of them sounding the same as they originally did (although maybe a little quieter) so sounds could just be tweaked slightly to create an original class 323. I have ridden this line IRL and I am especially familiar with Piccadilly and it has been modelled very accurately.
The only problem I have with this one, is I think it should have been included in a whole much bigger Suburban Manchester route. They should have released this as an Extension for Huddersfield in TS Classic Instead.
I think it's easy to tell that this route was made purely as a way for DTG to chuck something small out the door to fill the gap before the release of TSW4. Compared to other UK routes I personally see it as looking more nicely detailed, but I also wouldn't be surprised if that was the case because DTG were seeing the work going into JT's Blackpool route and knew they needed to up their game. Or perhaps it also reused assets from the ECML route which was more than likely in development at the same time. Not to mention the fact that it was probably the easiest choice they could have made, given its short length and the fact that the only train they had to make for it was a reskin of one they had just released only months earlier.
Yes the power notch is super annoying jumps from brake 2 to power one or from brake 2 randomly into emergency. very annoying on console. complained about this on the bcc version
What they could have done to make this slightly less linear C.N is add the Manchester Piccadilly-Manchester Airport section. Personally i wouldn't mind if Dovetail did part of The Hope Valley line either from Manchester Piccadilly-Sheffield including Totley Tunnel or Sheffield-Doncaster.
I am really upset the 158 has no diesel smoke why. I have sent tickets but no reply. I feel you have a diesel train and no diesel smoke but all the other trains have why had two updates and still not fixed.
I’ve been reading the forums and I’ve seen rumors about TSW4, and supposed “leaks” I personally wouldn’t be suprised because DTG have been absolutely quite last month or 2. they’ve been making shorter routes, buggy routes, incomplete routes, unnecessary cashgrabs and lazy DLC, and linear routes, they also went quite around the end of the TSW2 lifespan, and they’re doing that now. They’ve also made the recent roadmaps bare and very empty. Either dovetail have turned there team to TSW4 or 3 big routes this summer. Just sharing my off topic opinion :)
Platforms 13 and 14 in real life are arguably some of the most dangerous in the UK, maybe even Europe. The fact the island platform is rather small width ways doesn't help. In regards to the shorter route thing, I don't get why the timetable workings are split into three either.
I actually agree with alot you've said I am enjoying the Glossop line tbf it's a nice little short route with the 323 which I like I think we should have longer routes but I think perhaps they aren't doing longish routes because they struggle on last gen consoles just my thought really the new just trains route coming soon is 48 miles long which is a decent length overall I do agree with you though on alot of things
Would you be planning on doing a re-review of the Brighton Mainline and Great Western Express routes? I have recently bought TSW for the sake of BML (Brighton mainline) and the 377s. And I wonder what everybody thinks about them. Love your reviews on these route and now I understand what shitshow is going on in TSW’s development department
It's decent but 1 train for £20 might be a decent deal but doesn't excuse the lack of variety of service pattern Birmingham cross city has more variety and that's got the 323 aswell trust me about this big release it's going to Be like TSW2 rushour 3 or 5 routes for like £30 or a season update like TSW1 - TSW2020 the same game just give some extra routes thrown in for existing owners it was main spessart bahn, NTP and long island that was thrown in. My predictions for the 3 routes are there going to be something from the TSW2 era they might throw in Bakerloo line UK, for Germany either naverkher dresden or tharandter rampe could be both but unlikely USA or Canada either harlem line or sandpatch grade. (this is my prediction for the update not saying it's gonna happen.)
Clearly management is on top of what routes to make. They choose what they can do in least amount of time/work that makes them more money, in other words, small routes or "conversions" routes from TS take less work/development times therefore better money wise... it's the same for the development teams, what happen to the preservation crew? having a team for fixing bugs or update old routes does not necessary bring them money... What DTG needs is competition, hopefully that SimRail game can make for a nice competitor. Thanks for the vids and cheers for Portugal :)

This is the only “good” train game on consoles, which is why it’s still here. If NEV, the creator of trainz decided to make one for consoles, which with the ps5 and xbox series x, it could be done, people would switch over to that, especially if jointed rail was included and made content for console. TSW would still be there but only because they would step their game up on tsw if trainz came to consoles. Trainz would probably even let you have more freedom the day it came than tsw does right now. The only thing that probably wouldn’t be added from the pc version is the create you own map feature. You could make the session exactly how you want, the train consist would be how you wanted, actual manifests in sessions, etc. If trainz came to consoles id easily choose it over tsw.
Ngl the most painful thing about this route is the inclusion of Drax biomass transport services (that I see often IRL) with everything being wrong about it, I mean not only does it not use acrual Drax cars, it users railfreight coal hoppers from another dlc but also instead of using colas rail freight locomotives like a class 60, it uses EMS class 66s which they constantly reuse. It makes zero sense so why add it?
This route doesn't feature any parts in any other routes. The models for TSW 3 take a lot to produce as they are fully modelled in a lot of detail rather than just MSTS style models, with separate cabs and basic control physics like some other simulators still use on new models today.
The reason why they made this route even though DTG won't say it is because it's just a filler route for the big summer release coming in August or September so it's a way for DTG to get some money in. I won't be buying this route for sure. It's way too short and boring
I just hope that the big release isn't TSW4. We don't need yet another pointless sequel, given that there are still issues with the current iteration that Dovetail seemingly don't want to fix.
