I used this song for a D&D campaign right before the players headed to the fight with the final boss. Probably one of the best moments of the campaign.
I love this one so damn much. It's so blindingly sinister, even though the lyrics are basically positive spirited - and, more to the point, sung that way! He means it, does the singer. There's a bit of Irish history in that subtext, is all. This song, and others like The Parting Glass, were sung by those who parted in Ireland to become the great Irish Diaspora.

Keep coming back to this video. Aside from being an amazing song and outstanding rendition, the visual aesthetics add to it as well, reminding me of the sheer talent Colm has. Incredible vocal range and multi-Instrumentalist. Also, should release tabs for that guitar. Please?
Man there's something about this one. The lyrics on their own are pretty cheerful, "There's no man in this wide world as happy as me." But on the other hand it feels so mournful, I think because of the "we might never all meet here again." That unspoken 'Any happiness we might be feeling right now is absolutely temporary and might not so much as survive the night" resonates probably harder than it should.
Having heard the Longest Johns version, theirs seems wistful if somber, this one sounds like we're having one last night out before we invade Normandy.
Beautiful Colm. You see me smile. The flute (piccolo?) really does it for me and its a nice bridge for your high part. Happy, that you are happy. Cheers from FRG Bernd

Because anything can happen over sea and this last part made me cry because its so true for we or might never all meet here in our home country again this is beautiful thank you thank you for the beautiful song and for the tears my man love it
I remember another much loved Irish man, singer, who had a passion for jumpers. Val Doonican.
I heard another masterpiece performed by you. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your efforts. For this music and these beautiful notes and songs. This is basically the only thing that helps me now. Sorry for my crooked English, but I hope everything will be clear and you can read it. I am in the hospital and I have a complicated operation scheduled for my left hip on September 17. Terrible pain every day and I am constantly being given painkillers. Under your voice, I just fall asleep, forgetting about the pain and the fear of surgery. For all this, I would like to hug you tightly and thank you for your diligence and work.
Andrey Andrushchenko. 27 years old, Moscow.
Thank you again very much.
Hope you feel better soon, good luck !
@@morganemosnier7234 Thank you very much. I will try to be less nervous and worry less. After all, all diseases are caused by nerves.
Thank you again for your support.
@@Avitus2010 You're more than welcome. I know what it's like to be worried about health so it was only normal for me to show my support ! Get well soon, I hope things turn out ok for you.
@@morganemosnier7234 If only I were there. Hugged me tight tight! However, it would look ridiculous. It's just that my height is 2 meters 12 centimeters.
Therefore, I hug you until you crunch and thank you for your warm support.
And most importantly, don't get sick. And all the best to you.
@@Avitus2010 This is the sweetest yet most terrifying hug offer I have ever received (considering I am 1,64m and would indeed get crushed in the process) 😂 All the best to you too, don't forget to try and relax and everything will be just fine !
Love it!!
Eyyy cheers, brother bear! High praise coming from yourself!
Colm, Thank you for making the music you do, It makes me happy every time I hear you play a song! Keep making this music and keep making people remember the true meaning of music
Four people have never been invited to a party before and therefore have no one to drink with.....
A beautiful song written by beautiful people living in one of the most beautiful lands on earth. God bless you brother.
I LOVE this song, but almost never hear it. Thank you for doing it justice! This is definitely going on repeat. If you do Queen of Argyle and The Soldier and the Sailor, I can die happy.
Cheers from FRG
Bernd
Now this is what I would call a sea shanty!!! great job, mate!
Wozers man your voice sounds like the crew of the jackdaw in ac Black flag damn fine work keep it up
Perfect in every way… There’s no one other words to do this justice.
Absolutely beautiful! This is my absolute favorite tavern song of all time and you just made it a million times better. Great work as always Colm!
I'm just saying. Colm makes every song better than the original all by himself. 1 in a million me boy.
Was finally ready to cry today. You published this the day after I found out a dear friend of mine from the SCA passed away. Thank you for helping me let him go. :: pours one for the fallen and takes a shot for the standing::
This one was really good, and I got to the point in the book The ballad of songbirds and snakes where Lucy sings hanging tree and I heard your rendition in my head while reading it!
Oh this is amazing! Heard this song earlier in the year at ren faire and fell enchanted by it!
One of the best bits of the song was that last line, not sure why but it hits me more than any other version of the song
This song would have fit in when my close friends an I shared a final drink before we all moved to different parts of the country. Love it.
Wow! Another one to add to the playlist thank you!!!🍻💜
This song has my favorite chorus of any of the songs produced by Colm so far, both slightly melancholy and yet still looking forward towards the future.
I just came back from a walk at the beach across the road from my house. so a welcome and timely song. :)
Pov: You’re about to witness a main character to be greeted with Death himself.
Wonderful video Colm. You should do some Disney songs, that would be nice like Tangle, Shrek, Lion King etc. That would be awesome :3
one of my favorite lads, covering one of my favorite songs, in what is now one of my favorite covers! Beautiful as always, you have yet to disappoint. might i suggest "The Kingfisher" by Schooner Fare? i think you'd do a marvelous rendition.
Kind friends and companions, come join me in rhyme
Come lift up your voices in chorus with mine
Come lift up your voices all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Here's a health to the dear lass that I love so well
For her style and her beauty, sure none can excel
There's a smile on her countenance as she sits on my knee
There's no man in this wide world as happy as me
Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Our ship lies at anchor, she's ready to dock
I wish her safe landing, without any shock
If ever I should meet you by land or by sea
I will always remember your kindness to me
Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Hello, just wanted to say thank you for making this song/cover. It's been my constantly-on-one-repeat, get-up-and-get-going song for almost two months now.
Thank you.
This is the closing song at the Medieval Faire nearby every night! This gives me wonderful feels.
back at it again appreciating the trifecta of voice range, sweater range, and instrumental range.
Ohhhhhh, damn, I love it! 🤩 Thank you so much Colm!
Another big blasting hit. Love the playing and singing beautiful flow to the song.
After so long I still love and play black flag been playin since it came out when I was a kid. Great singing man
What a happy/catchy song :) I absolutely love it, "let us drink and be merry!"
Thanks friendo! Hope all is well on your end! 🙏
@@ColmRMcGuinness Thanks friendo! Same to you :D
:O This is my favorite shanty, bar none! I’m so pumped to hear your lovely, lovely voice give this song the justice it deserves
I just found this song a couple weeks ago!! I love your rendition!!!
Incredibly soulful song, Colm you are incomparable as always.
I love shanty, every song is something unique, special, a little story.
It is a pity that on RUclips there is no analysis of how to play this song on the guitar, it sunk into my soul very much, I would like to learn it.
This is just as good as the Longest John’s version.
Yes. To state the least. Both have unique variances that make it hard to say. I like what this guy does with his voice at the end. Caught me off-guard at first. 😌🍀
Omg intoxicating. Blasting my ears out
Ive had this on repeat all day. Dear god this is a blessing of a song hahaha
I listen every Song with headphones...goosebumps..everytime. love it
All that talent and vast sweater collection ....but does this great man own a t shirt 😁
a ginger got good love your work mate hope to hear more for many more years
I just discovered you.
From the Skyrim song to the daughter of the Sea by hoist the colours... I can't choose which one I love most.
Keep up the great work 💪🏾
THANK YOU!!!! I LOVE THIS sONG!
If i may make a request, good sir, The Curse? Its another sea shanty
Probably one of my favorite shanties! I've listened to a lot of versions of the same song, but there's nothing that beats an Irish tone. Bravo, Colm!
I think he's brilliant , and has good tunes!
I think if you did a cover of "O, Death" it would be awesome!
Colm, I have to finally thank you for all these incredible uploads. This song in particular was one of the songs I really wanted to recommend you to sing, so thanks again!
I had a very tough day at work and this one's really put a smile back on my face! This comes from the heart when I say the last couple of months you've been an inspiration for me to start experimenting with singing in different vocal ranges. The lads and I often
sing along whilst listening to your songs, with some fresh beers of course! ;)
I'm very grateful for everything you do and am glad your channel and (new) career are flourishing.
You deserve it, the hard work pays of!
Keep up the good work and more importantly, make content what makes you feel happy yourself.
We'll stick around for sure!
While I'm at it, the second song I really hope you'll try someday is "The Last Leviathan"! :D
I think that one really fits your abilities and you'll enhance it to yet another level, as always.
Becoming more handsome every upload,
Joran
One of my favourites! It's amazing, thank you for making this
I notice that the tun of this song is almost identical to "maid of culmore" that Celtic Thunder used to perform.
One of my favourite songs in ACIV Black Flag as well. You made sound even better
I can't help but notice how forward your tongue is when you sing, is that truly your mouth posture when you sing/speak, or is that a teenie bit of over exaggeration when recording the lip-sync?
Loved that last chorus switch! Well done as ever. 🎶
Why does this rendition sound so much like Great Big Sea's Barque in the harbour?
Awesome cover as always. Here's a suggestion: Rye Whiskey from The Pirates Charles, so it's the pirate version
