Regarding Sea Shanties: i spoke to an old sailor who fought in WW2. he said his old Master Sergeant who ran the school he was taught in was in before WW1 "Back when the ships were made of wood and the men were made of iron"
I mean, you kinda had to be to even survive a voyage in the days of wood ships, the work was grueling, food was horrific and there was very limited hygiene even back on land

Lyrics for this version! It's a damn tough life full of toil and strife We whalermen undergo. And we won’t give a damn when the gales are done How hard the winds did blow. ‘For we're homeward bound from the Arctic rounds With a good ship, taut and free And we won't give a damn when we drink our rum With the girls of Old Maui. (Chorus) Rolling down to Old Maui, me boys Rolling down to Old Maui We're homeward bound from the Arctic rounds Rolling down to Old Maui. Once more we sail with a northerly gale Through the ice and wind and rain. Them coconut fronds, them tropical shores We soon shall see again. Six hellish months we passed away On the cold Kamchatka Sea, But now we're bound from the Arctic rounds Rolling down to Old Maui. Rolling down to Old Maui, me boys Rolling down to Old Maui We're homeward bound from the Arctic rounds Rolling down to Old Maui. Once more we sail with a northerly gale Towards our island home. Our whaling done, our mainmast sprung, And we ain't got far to roam. Our stu'n's'l bones is carried away What care we for that sound? A living gale is after us, Thank God we're homeward bound. Rolling down to Old Maui, me boys Rolling down to Old Maui We're homeward bound from the Arctic rounds Rolling down to Old Maui. How soft the breeze through the island trees, Now the ice is far astern. Them native maids, them tropical glades Is a-waiting our return. Even now their big brown eyes look out Hoping some fine day to see Our baggy sails runnin' 'fore the gales Rolling down to old Maui. Rolling down to Old Maui, me boys Rolling down to Old Maui We're homeward bound from the Arctic rounds Rolling down to Old Maui.

Yeah his voice is really incredible, and as someone with an unpleasant voice I can understand you wish. Oh well that’s life, sometimes you just get the shorter stick…
As others have noted, the production quality to ensure a clean choral sound is superbly done, and I continue to thank you for expanding the shanty niche! Thanks Colm!
Forget traditional musicals. Imagine an entire musical set on a ship where the deck hands sing these shanty’s. Setting the scene pre and lost battle. Setting up trade routes etc. It would be epic
One of the few sea shanty’s that I knew of before the sea shanty craze. My dad and I listened to a folk band when I was a kid and they did a couple sea shanty’s including this. Also loving the Low Bs in this, your tone is so full that I actually don’t understand lol
It's not a shanty. Shanties were old songs sung on board (never on shore) to help get the work done. This is a fine maritime song, yes, but not a shanty.
Dude I can’t get enough of your music you’re so insanely talented in the short time I’ve been listening to you I’ve been nothing but thoroughly impressed.
Ooh. As a guy with a deeper voice, that deep voice part speaks to my core. Irish twang gives everything a wonderful sound, but I'm biased, with my Irish heritage. Keep up what you're doing, Colm.

Sheer guttural brilliance! And the talent of the different instruments is amazing. I turned this on and my Da walked in! Made me start again so we could sing it out loud!! I can’t say I’ve ever experienced anything like you are going through, though I’ve never met you, and most likely never will, I wish you the all the best and hope you recover fully
You've got a voice for these - if you'd team up with John Bromley and David Coffin, I'm pretty sure the vibrations of your voices combined would show up on the goddamn Richter Scale. Excellent job!
Chills. Absolute chills. My all time favorite shanty done by my favorite bass. Positively scintillating. And the additional instrumentation absolutely flawless.
The beauty of this shanty sent me a-Googling to learn its provenance -- it IS an old one. Utterly delightful in Colm's performance, an entire choir elicited from one fluid and fluent voice artist. Love it!
i love how every shanty have its version in propably every language, in poland shanties like old maui(stara maui), wild rower(dziki włóczęga) and more are the almost the same song.

"arctic rounds", I think, in the chorus

'o'au ka ho'i. Aloha
Well, you ceased being just a "singer" long ago. Now you are a natural phenomenon with badass and bass mode turned on. Fantastic, just fantastic.
Love this. I hate when singers make shanties “pretty”, this has an authentic edge to it.
A bit smooth still, but that is the difference between trained and untrained Voices
