i love weezer
i am in love with you
@@BiggestBrianBellKinniei am in love with both of you
Ever since I was a kid, Rivers Cuomo has been one of my idols. And, I have to say, his fortitude is astonishing. Being able to go out there and do this after losing two of his friends had to be incredibly difficult, as losing people you care about always is. I think that if the Allen sisters could've been there to see this they would've been proud to call him their friend.
Three friends, actually. Mykel, Carli & Trysta.
@@aia94 four friends. Mikey Welsh also.
No. Mikey didn't die until 2011.
@@aia94 my bad i thought you just meant in general
I'm talking about the loss they suffered in 1997.
Oh man, I was there!!!
Roadtrip from Dallas... Crazy synchronicity that we saw someone flip their truck across the highway right in front of us and died.
Then we snuck into the after party. Billy Joe from Green Day asked me for a light lol. Nice dude.
That's a memory right here
I stg people in the 90s have the wildest stories
stop lying
this is the last weezer performance with Matt Sharp
I know, it's unfortunate he departed from the bad...but apparently tensions were high during the production and release of Pinkerton.
Rivers assumed quite a bit of artistic control on that album compared to their debut record. Weezer's drummer alludes to this in his Special Goodness song "Congratulations" released shortly after the Pinkerton Tour concluded.
They looked so happy when they walked on stage though!
Yea...Matt later described that in and around 1994-95 that all the guys (Weezer) were really light hearted and just having fun as a band, they weren't in much of any conflict with each other, but I guess that conflict occurred later on as Kevin stated.
I think due to the death of Mykel and Carli that it made them emotional and Energetic(especially Matt) things were a wreck.
Allen Clark if you watch him play only in dreams with Kung fu generation he plays it pretty much the same way so I think that’s just how he plays it live
I really don't get how Pinkerton got blacklisted from sets for as long as it did with everyone in the crowd losing it to the songs.
Rivers was ashamed due to the record's backlash.
It was more of a critical hit job. Seems like Weezer fans took to it pretty quickly
If I’m not mistaken this was the last concert they played with Matt Sharp
Yepp
I was there, wearing a homemade "Remember Mykel and Carli" button. I think my ears are still ringing from this show. :-)
Ooof that sucks! Tinnitus is terrible.
36:34 sick dance moves brian
32:51 that was pretty funny, Rivers was drinking water & wasn’t ready for the start of Buddy Holly & when the guitar hammer-on part came he played it wrong on purpose
I’m sorry but Matt screaming like a lunatic throughout the show is so funny oh my god
its audible how much he misses mykel and carli in the song :(
You are awesome for finding this.
46:50 Death of the blue strat.
Rip
nah it survived until 2000 according to Weezerpedia.
@@Eth_C Yeah but it was never the same after the big hit it took.
I was there!!
How can you follow the Mykel and Carli performance with El Scorcho during a show dedicated to them...lol
No problem with no
Because it’s a good song?
I have pics of Rivers before the show. I wonder if he regretted wearing the polyester long sleeve shirt. It was an incredible show with Black Market Flowers and that dog opening. Pretty sure my teenage heart exploded that night.
do you still have the pics? and is there anyway you can upload them somewhere
Matt shoulda tuned his bass for only in dreams ;)
Max Legate but he show us that he great bassist right? he plays another bassline when he knows the bass is untune
Sucks that Matt Sharp and weezer never saw them next year
52:08 deep "how cool is that?"
I really like the getchoo solo 5:45
I love Matt
This must have been before tuners were invented.
Emo Rivers
@@bjorksarmpits148 never remind me of that again, I rather think about when Rivers said "heil (WW2 man)" at a japan tour.
i guess people don't like emo rivers cuz this comment is at the bottom of the comment section
Adrian young from no doubt on drums on buddy holly
That’s No Doubts drummer on Buddy Holly
jeez never seen them all so wasted
I laughed my butt off because of matt
Question: Was Rivers crying after Pink Triangle?
Oh, wow. I'm the guy who asked on the original version of "Mykel and Carli" if you were the guy who uploaded it to roblox. I guess I should've guessed by the fact that you found that one that you'd know plenty of other lesser known Weezer videos!
I can see why this was Matt’s last show 😆
Matt Sharp was amazing
spinning rivers he be spinning
52:58 jumpy rivers he be jumping
@@yobelkcip aww he jumpy awww river como
55:23 he looks pissed
Or just really really tired and depressed
yes most likely just sad, he lost his good friends and this show was to honor them
I think it’s those and Matt’s bass being out of tune.
whos on bass during buddy holly?
Pat
@@kristupas8667 weezer was nothing without Patrick Wilsons basslines, dont just say pat. Disrespectful >:(
@@bruh-gn5kc I am sorry for i have sinned upon our lord and savior Patrick Wilson
Ok, so who's playing the drums?
@@pabloh.a. Scott
Why doesn't matt play bass on buddy Holly?
Likely cause he was sick of the song by then, he seemed to be the main guy going to bat for Pinkerton back when it was cool to hate it.
always found it weird how 'the good life' made the set list for a benefit show for tow girls who lost their lives
the song is about he wants to get back to "the good ol' life" after he had to walk around with crutches after he got surgery on his legs
tbf im sure the sisters loved the song
I mean, the song talks about wanting to go back to the good life. So I'd say it also makes sense in this context.
@@BackToBackJames Tbf I Wrote that 2 years ago I've matured since and agree with all replies prior. I like Your idea though :)
They shouldve closed the show with mykel and carli imo
Rivs looks like Jeff Mangum here
This performance is rough.... they were super over it.
Things with Matt had become untenable at this point. It's like he thinks he Damon Albarn mixed with Billie Joe. Cocaine is a hell of a drug, obviously. But all the screaming and theatrics, it's just too wild, it was becoming detrimental to the gig at that point. I want to hear the Suzanne guitar solo, instead I'm hearing Matt Sharp screaming. Did he leave or was he pushed, we'll find out eventually I guess, but he'd become kind of annoying at that point. It's a shame because i'd happily take a slightly-toned-down, 85% Matt Sharp over Scott any day of the week. Urrgh. This was a sad turning point for the band. And those next 3 years felt like a decade when we were kids. He's still much missed to this day IMO.
Scott is much better then Matt ever was
@@MasterChiefFLY nice profile pic.
around 1:04:03 Matt said they'd play again next year.....
