They ran out of time. Bear in mind that Jason Cropper left in the middle of the recording of Blue, so Rivers used a hefty chunk of studio time to record over Jason's guitars and re-recording backing vocals with Brian after he flew in from Tennessee.
Thats how I found it as well. I was 12-13 when the Blue album came out and never knew about this, as I wasnt a Weezer super fan although everyone liked the Blue album. Its great to know that this came out before the sisters passed away and that they were able to enjoy it for a time.
