    My guess is that nongenerated terrain is like a Superflat world in Minecraft - just the ground with nothing else. That is why biters can walk into and from the "void". However, that would mean they can walk on what is supposed to be a lake. I wonder if they can?

    • @theapexsurvivor9538
      @theapexsurvivor9538 Год назад +6

      I get the feeling that the devs just didn't code an exception for biters to not walk into fog of war when there isn't any generated terrain beyond it. And seeing as the map is virtually infinite and follows a preset seed, there isn't really an issue with storing biters in empty terrain chunks so long as it wouldn't have water in it.
      So it's more like in an MMO when you clip out of bounds and can walk into undecorated portions of the map.

    Well from what I lerarn in factorio mechanics detailism from you is access damage and enlarge the border with your physical presence to a new rectangle and you got yourself the solution for get rid of the new generated chunks, I would say 10 chunks to the right from the current imaginative border line(that was stepped over before) with enlarged new created hazard concrete border that you personally hiddenly scan wide version is an easy way how to use the extra artilery ammo you got.
    So enlarge Hazardus concrete area to new standard and fight some new biters on enlarged map. Simple as that.

It essentially saves you from having to spam click, and lets you carpet bomb the biters into oblivion. Very fun to do with artillery shooting speed upgrades done.

    Damnit, now you got me thinking about generating a custom map for the sake of mass carnage. Research Arty Range to something stupid and Fire Rate to about lvl 50. Then setup THE most smorktastic loading array to feed Bertha with shells and watch her go BRRT. This is the fastest loading setup I know how to build without mods.:
    Place 8 rail tracks in a straight line, delete pieces 3 and 6. Place 4 blue inserters in each gap, facing the middle segment. Then place 1 arty wagon in the middle segment, and 2 cargo wagons on the outer segments. Place an additional 6 blue inserters facing the Arty wagon on each side and a total of 4 blue inserters feeding each cargo wagon. Power the whole rig with medium poles or a substation.
    Kinda makes me wonder what level of fire rate upgrade can 20 blue inserters keep up with.
    To feed the 6 inserters on each side of the Arty wagon:
    Assume the Arty Wagon is on a left-right track.
    Exit underground facing right, followed by 6 belts running right (perpendicular to the inserters)
    3 splitters pointing up at the 6 belts
    3 belts pointing up, 1 belt pointing right, and another belt pointing up.
    Then feed that with a basic 1-into-4 array.
    Someone researched how inserters work and determined there's a small speed advantage for inserters collecting from the far side of a belt. This feed array is his best timed loader for cargo wagons.
    Probably doesn't matter since the stack size is automatically 1, but my idea is to be maxing out the performance just to see how fast it can brrt.

    • @MichaelHendriks
      @MichaelHendriks  Год назад +2

      I think it'd be even faster to take from chests instead of belts, as the inserter doesn't have to "search" the exact location of the item (not tested, could be false info)

    • @imofage3947
      @imofage3947 Год назад +2

      @@MichaelHendriks Maybe, but that's only going to provide a buffer if it makes a difference. You could partially compensate for that by added a 5th inserter to each cargo wagon, but after that, you hit a wall. And the search is pretty short because it's only grabbing 1 shell per swing instead of feeling around for 5-12 pieces.
      Feel free to make my vision a reality if you want some shock and awe content.

    Hah, I immediately noticed how you've completely forgotten about the border when you were nuking your new nuclear power plant landfills. And I even remember you saying something to the extent of "I don't think we'll need to marker the border where our nuclear plants are so let's just ignore it". Well what do you know huh?

    today i've learned: if you change binding in settings -> controls at "drag map" from left-click to anything else, holding manual targetting, left-hold clicking will place artillery target as expected, but dragging will change it into carpet bombing xD no more killing mouse switches i guess. Reasonable option however is to hold left-click and scroll map with WSAD as usual.
    You're welcome

    I always suspected Mike had a scientific background, but his highly accurate explanation of the collapse of the wave function and the duality of the wave-particle nature of photons confirms it.
    You could say that until I observed this video his background was a superposition of being both scientific and non-scientific.
    Schrödinger's Mike has been observed!
