What if you did a playthrough where you get all steam achievments.
You would need to use no lasers, solar panels and only craft 111 items, have no logistics network and finish the game in 8 hours. then after that you could get the achievements for solar, logistics etc.
...but with a twist! Keep an eye on my new side project coming out soon...
That's a speedrun category. There are tons of videos out on that. Wouldn't mind Michael doing it tho
We all appreciate how many countless hours you put into these videos just to give us a dopamine hit once a week!
Yes
@Matt How u can have put comment here 7 days ago already (thats what my RUclips shows) even this is released only 13 h ago
@@OccasusRaven I subscribed to his patreon and watched it 7 days ago. Totally worth it to support him after the many hours of happiness his videos have brought us.
You mean Factoriomine.
I see now, the prison is much more metaphysical than literal, as you could easily get outside the puny walls, but doing so would risk spawning more biters
Spot on! (the true prison lies within the 4 Mike was Here markers, as I set those chunks as "X+0")
@@MichaelHendriks your series is really interesting, it tackles the game from a vastly different angle compared to what I'm used to and has taught me some valuable skills, keep it up!
"But even a few bases I accidentally hit while exploring the map with the artillery cannons caused a couple massive revenge attacks" describes the scale of things pretty concisely
It seems like you where suggesting it's possible to kill all the biters on a map by strategically not allowing the player to move there and use remote destruction. That would be interesting.
I'm curious why you didn't make some buffer chests with walls and repair packs in the far off corners. Extra drama? Hubris?
The bots... They have betrayed me too many times... They shall BURN
@@MichaelHendriks Never trust a machine!
@@MichaelHendriks I'm curious, what's the advantage to this wall design over a solid 4 thick wall, or even an 8 or 10 thick wall? Is it just more surface area for more flamethrower fire to be sitting in?
@@DSiren spitters have a small AOE. The split walls don't get affected too badly, fully packed walls do
Because possibility bots from far south can decide to repair wall on far north?
This episode went by so fast! The satisfaction from seeing all those shells and biters really makes you lose track of time.
I remember a few months back I asked if you would ever get a chance to breathe and you said eventually you'll be overpowered. I thought back to that when you stirred up the hive and said the walls are still holding.
Vanilla Factorio: You will use artillery for the rest of your life.
Space Exploration: Confirm biter extinction? [Y] [N]
Imagine being one of the biters on the 20th chunk out. You've heard vague rumors of an evil, two legged biter who makes boxes that emit food to lure biters in to later kill them. You disregard them as simple rumor, living your biter life until....an artillery shell flies towards your nest. Oh god. The rumors were true.
I've played nearly 2000 hours of this game and I still find myself learning new mechanics from your videos. I love the way you mix the entertaining aspects of story telling with the informative parts of diving into the hidden mechanics of the game!
p.s. a helpful tip I learned a while ago while dealing with artillery is that you can rebind "map movement" to something like middle mouse button and then you're able to just click and drag to fire artillery without worrying about moving the map
Ok, I was under the impression you needed to program a macro to actually spam click, but more people mentioned it already. I'll look into it
You eventually pressed T to acknowledge the artillery shell range 2 upgrade, and that makes me happy. Solid improvement keep it up
These last few episode have been the best by far imo. Going from a defensive play style and barely having enough to scrape by to seriously planning to remove every biter from the game. You love to see it.
Biters breaking the fourth wall, you say... they are now aware they're in a video game? :D
Jokes aside, do you think a fifth wall would be of any use here? It looks like there might be room to fit one more layer to your setup.
You have a sixth sense for these kind of things...
Now they know its a Shadow Test
I always like making a wall of Bullet Turrets just because I think they sound and look cool but it does take a lot of resources to keep them fed
Looking forward to *Lord of the Biters* part two!! Hope it's not too far away 😉God bless the work you put in for us.
I'll probably release movie 2 and 3 after the series is completed, it will give me something extra to upload while I have time for a much needed breather after completing this series lol
the speedup on the defense at 21:53 was really cool
As I remember, the player location is not the only rigger to generate new terrain. It could also be generated by pollution. We didn't see your current pollution map, due to the forest it might not be a concern. But due to lakes, pollution spreads fast and far.
That might be why he's trying to preserve as many trees as possible. At some point, he will have generated enough forrest terrain to completely halt the spread of his factory's pollution. Then, he can just wipe the remaining biters out in the generated area and achieve the world peace.
Whether or not he will need to go out to generate more forrests remains to be seen.
Indeed... for as long as we ar fully surrounded by the biters, pollution will stay contained... But of course, ultimately they will have to go!
The far away map is looking awfully desert-y though...
@@MichaelHendriks nothing that more E X P A N D I N G can't take care of. It's your land anyway. Tespassers need to be exterminated
i my self that know nothing of this game am enjoying this series so much. the story telling and planning feels like im doing it and im experiencing the game without even playing. keep it up im loving evey minute of it
The only series that consistently makes me turn my video quality up to 360p.
The sweeping artillery effect when viewed at high speed is satisfying. Apparently artillery targets biter nests on a chunk by chunk basis.
Yeah
I love how the walls "evolved" to form a rudimentary Dragon's Teeth defense, it's so interesting to see how the simplest things can be optimized by randomness, competition, and time.
seriously tho, how friggin good is the music in factorio?! it literally drips atmosphere!
Yeah it's incredible, it has different tracks to match different situations and phases of the game, and it never gets old... One of the best soundtracks to a game ever imo
"Some of you may die, but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make", fits perfectly for your bots losses.
I didn't know shells don't generate chunks nearby. Still getting automated range out there takes a lot of science. Or if manual targeting that's a herculean task.
God Damn it Michael Both you and Dosh Doshington are doing factorio better than anyone else right now. Next level content! Love it
On god they are the best at this shit they are hella interesting
hell yeah
I wonder if you would play my favourite scenario.
Water settings to make islands.
Max biter settings.
Min resource settings.
Only thing to be built on landfill is rails (power must be locally generated, fluids transported etc)
No solar.
No cliff explosives for extra spaghetti
No lasers, uranium bullets have some value.
Marathon for extra points.
Too manuy ideas, not enough time... You could send me one of your savegame with those settings though, I could certainly take a look
lets go! i always just get so happy seeing you uploaded another deathWorld challenge. Dankjewel!
Can you put a buffer chest with walls and repair packs near anticipate counterattack points? Then construction bots could 'live' in the roboports closest to the action pretty easily.
You are an incredible content creator. I get so happy whenever I see you’ve uploaded. I hope you don’t feel pressured by people to keep working even when you’re not feeling your best, because we appreciate whatever you can give regardless of how often it is ❤ You are an artist
Fantastic episode. I've seen artillery compilations before... but these episodes are better, given your editing skills and the fact that we have seen this story grow, one week at a time. It's also shocking to see all the burnt corpses pile up endlessly, it's brutal. Fantastic episode as always!
Just binged the entire series in the last 2 days; been so fun to watch cant wait to see what happens next
I think it might be worth adding a wagon in your artillery train that takes bots and walls out to the corners you’re attacking
I believe the next episode will be extra entertaining and technical. I'm curious about the map gen situation.
Not since I was a wee lad have I had something that I looked forward to watching each Friday so much. Cheers for the excellent content.
TGIF, for some German engineering and pest control / American Cleaning...
What do you mean the house isn't clean, there's nothing left to clean, so it's clean.
There's nothing left at all...
If you wanted to clean in the first place, you can go clean the neighbors house...
Very easy solution for the remote corners and repairs - get a requester chest for construction robots and repair kits next to closest roboport. Wire up so that when less than 10 robots in roboport, you add a construction robot from chest. Fill it up with repair kits and you'll always have instant support.
Great Barbecue Recap! These HORDES >_<
Thx for the episode!
I've never played Factorio, but the whole series is amazing, and whenever i see new episode I play it right away. Thanks!
These episodes are way too much fun to watch it felt like 5 minutes even though it were ~20 whole videos by modern youtube standards
13:13 - wait _why_ did some spitter spit eastward? Are trees the real enemy even to them?!?? 😂
Fun stuff, as usual! Thanks for the entertainment!! 💝
Their predictive spitting doesn't work well with high bot speed
@@MichaelHendriks ahhhhhh, ok! That makes sense, then! Thanks. :)
There's something soothing about the sort of fan wave deployment of automatic artillery fire. Perhaps it is the imminent promise of a bunch of problems about to be solved lmao
I just watched all 24 episodes in a row, keep the good work you make insane content!!!!
Best factorio series on youtube, hands down. You deserve awards.
I watched it and when i saw the Patreon page i thinked "what ? Allready ??"
Your video is insane, and i learned a lot of things on the game once again.
Great job !!
You are a mad man in a box, I love it! Keep it up!
Love these episodes and I am very much looking forward to the fully compiled movie.
Finally a new episode! Got diarrhea today at school, so I cycled home, my day is saved because of you!
A Michael Hendriks video on my birthday?? YES!!
I have had this game on my radar for years, finally picked it up and not been to bed on time once!
I look forward to your videos every week! Thanks!
War is peace, you fool! what will stop the bots from rebelling against you if not the constant biter threat?
A true leader's vision lol
I am ever grateful and appreciative of the hard work and dedication you put into the videos you make. All the care and polish that you put into them is nothing less than incredible. I would love to be as good of a player as you someday and your videos really help a lot with that. I learn so much with every episode that I have to watch them over and over again to even comprehend everything you're doing. I absolutely look forward to seeing how the series ends! Are you going to do a full movie of the whole thing when you finish?
yeah, there will be 2 more movies (the first one is out already covering the opening struggle)
you made my friday the best day of the week, thank you
i have never seen so many biters in one place before, that north east corner was awesome
Solo revisitar los primeros episodios ayuda a entender las dimensiones de lo realizado, es sumamente increible e ignotico ver lo automatizado de la defensa y la gestion una vez todo esta calculado. 10/10 sigue asi :)
its great to just wake up in the morning and watch one of your newd vids. god speed mike, god speed....
awsome as usual. Can't wait for the next one
a small sacrifice for man, a giant sacrifice for botkind. That made me laugh way more than it should have :) awesome man!! keep 'em coming :)
I'm a fan of this series
Many, many thanks for the hard work you put into this 🙏
Thousand thanks ❤️
transitioning to a self replicating and expandable train megabase is so fulfilling I tried to link a blueprint book to you but mine is like 90000 characters large LOL
Just wanted to say that you make excellent content and I hope you continue to record with voice narration in the future!
Amazingly well described and displayed. Great knowledge.
Alright. So the question I have then is, is it even possible to completely exterminate all the biters on a whole map?
You know, global extinction?
maybe
this is the first episode that i actually think was real time
The "action-packed" episodes naturally cover less time per episode than the "builder-type" episodes (btw there usually is a game clock visible in the top left corner, which helps to get a feel for the passing of time)
A really good video! Keep it up:)
Love you ❤️
@10:47
I swear, it looks like your flamethrower turrets wrote "help!" on the ground there.
Love getting I from work at 4am and seeing a new factorio dopamine hit
20:32 holy shit to watch those arties fire in a cyclone like that from the map view is so cool
What would you name the train? You named the 8-legged spider killing machine SpiderBen, but what about the train?
the TSSSJJJ!!! ?
So many factors,so many knowledge involved, this game is definitely a [Insert text here] to anyone that dares to challenge this level of difficulty and hopefully i'll be able to play it sooner or later, going through every stage of the challenge, like you
u will need more of these range upgrade :)
I was glued to my screen, up to the point that the biters broke the 4th wall
20:50: I appreciate their enthusiasm, but the world already has too many Deadpool wannabes.
I have no idea what this game is or what's going on. This makes me feel like a futuristic history student watching how my planet got secured
That was enough shell to make Verdun look like a Tuesday
Loving this series!
now im wondering if he is going to clear the sides next
This makes me somewhat want to do a play through with the only goal of world peace. I suppose the almikety Mike will have to show how first- in one week, that is!
Or maybe two, I don’t know, nor really care. This series is entertaining enough to warrant the wait.
Damn default assigned youtube ads are so agressive. Once every 4-5 mins.
The number of ads shown seems to vary a lot dpending on from which country you're watching, are you male or female, your age, etc.
Magically your new video appears exactly when I thinking about it 💀
Amazing vid as always :)
Good thing the biters all attack in a straight line, rather than idk... all at once. Seriously, I'd love to see you try this mass murder with Rampant installed. Just to see the chaos
Another great video!
5:17 - You said that shooting the artillery manually also generates more terrain. So haven't you just increased the amount of biters by revealing more of the map with artillery?
I mostly revealed terrain which was already generated by the game anyway when. It already existed anyway, but it was not revealed on the map yet. Now we revealed ALL POSSIBLE generated terrain, by going 20 chunks out from the furthest points where I ever was on the map, and we can be sure that final square is indeed the entire generated world now!
@@MichaelHendriks Okay, I thought artillery might generate terrain outside of what was revealed. Looked that way because biters were moving into and out of the border where there shouldn't be terrain.
It did look that way didn't it...
I personally love dragonsteeth designs for helping flamers get more coverage and if pushed out enough, limiting expansions in that annoying sweet spot range for worms.
After seeing this series, i'm gonna have to play factorio
Probably could've made the south wall attacks much less risky by placing a buffer of repair packs and fresh walls in storage nearby. Doesn't make for quite as good entertainment though, admittedly. 😉
A masterpiece series.
Man I love this series
Dam, 24 ep in, almost at the end of "season 2" here, hope we get a banging ending 😉😉😉
bruh, why gotta end these episodes man! they are too damn good and entertaining..
I saw you single clicking the Artillary. I got a hint ones, that you can inbind left mouse from moving the map, ao you can just draw a line with artillary very easy
I love your videos!
unreasonable well edited 17:34
well done
So if I get this right, if you shoot artillery shells manually to the furthest possible range in the circles instead of limiting yourself to the 20th block, you'll generate more mobs instead of discovering the already existing ones ?
Yes, we can be sure no land or biters exist in the black area beyond the now visible square anymore
u could have like walls in chest close there so bots could easier repair them
thank you!
very nice, late game is fun :D
11:58 a little Conga line of bots!
