Can you imagine driving around hostile animals through nature no roads, avoiding trees and rocks and still having the ambidexterity to draw up a map. Either that or a photographic memory. Playing factorio like it’s chess. Fantastic!
He's obviously cheating using /editor lol
Obviously the /editor stuff is just for showcasing concepts and things going on behind the scenes so my gameplay choices make more sense
@@MichaelHendriks I think the stuff you do with the editor adds a lot of deeper understanding and is very obviously not really being used to cheat. Maybe you could add a filter over the screen when you're not on the main save and using illegal commands to help differentiate I guess?

An hour long video! Feels like a blessing :)
I like the different commentary approach in this one (probably a big influence to the longer length of the video because of less scripting work) but it also feels like a bit of a "meeting your heroes" moment where you see that they are also human and not a post-commentary all-knowing entety :)
Still, the huge skill you show is amazing. I absolutely love everything and anything about your factorio challenge videos and I am so grateful for your uploads!
Yeah indeed, it's easier to "know all" in hindsight when scripting/editing lol. I'm still learning new stuff all the time
every MH playthrough:
step 1: completely outrageous totally bonkers stupidly insane premise that seems nearly impossible.
step 2: figure out a way to get to flame thrower turrets.
step 3: ????
step 4: PROFIT!
lol ;)
Generally, yes... but I don't have flamethrowers on the planning for this one!
it broke my heart when he used the final craft on heavy armor, i thought he was saving it for rocket silo :(
I SHOULD HAVE!!!
You can craft the silo quickly with beacons.... oh wait
So I guess heavy armor was the 111th item for the lazy bastard achievement? Better not misclick now :)
Ah, so all those car crashes were not accidents caused by looking at minimap, they were also necessary for achievement. Nice.
N.. heu... well YES of course! :D
Never realized how great it was to play without cliffs. Thanks for showing me.
Pretty sure cliffs would be a run killer there
When trying for the Lazy achievement, I went in and used /permissions to disable my ability to hand-craft, so there would be no mis-clicks.

Hey hope ur doin ok, you seem kinda down in this one so remember to have fun and take a break if you need to. We're here for you :)
This was recorded before the recent... problematic event, so better prepare for how I will sound in the next one then :p (It probably has to do mostly with stumbly live play commentary vs well thought-out scripted voice over)
@@MichaelHendriks yes i must say i enjoy the voice over more but the live commentary also has a nice vibe, maybe a 2nd playlist/channel for either would be nice, alot of challenge runners have a main channels for edited videos with voice overs and an "archives" channel where they upload vods with live commentary/ or no commentary both are a value add in my opinion
especially since the main videos have been abit short for me, but I was spoiled by your one video takes of your previous runs
Compared to Deathworld it just sounds like he's thinking hard as he plays, instead of announcing a grand plan he's already worked out as he executes it. Honestly this is even more impressive, like when he worked out that There Is No Spoon would be impossible but just kept right on going shows not only confidence but massive skill to boot.
Incredible video as always. I was blown away by all the "logic" behind the exploration and how it worked, but even more so by your bullet demonstration. I wonder at what research stage both red+yellow ammo become effective against behemoths. At which point do they become as good as default uranium ammo? How does ammo research affect uranium ammo? (since ammo upgrades take place before unlocking it). Crazy game.
The ratio of bullet damage at any given research level is always 5:8:24 . (Every level counts for every bullet type.) Because gun turret receive the bonus twice, multiplicatively, it adds up ever more quickly later on
“Driving around a hostile planet and running into a tree every once in a while ASMR.”
Good stuff. Liking the run like always.
YO! sorry about what's going on with your channel, hopefully you can regain control. another channel I watch had this happen to him a few months ago, same thing where all videos are privated and they go live with a tesla cryptocurrency scam stream. They were able to get everything back so I hope this can work well for you too!
That explains why I got 2 random notifications about tesla something going live
I've completely missed this (somehow), but I'm very pleased everything seems to have worked out.
To be clear, the situation is meanwhile fixed and my channel has resumed to normal, mostly thanks to the help of my patrons :)
It's wild how different this feels from the other current playthrough. There, it felt like a struggle.
Here, the sense of danger is palpable. Being spotted is almost certain death, and the only way to survive is sneaking.

At 30:10 I was thinking "can't you craft some repair packs?" Then I remembered you were going for the lazy bastard achievement
Repair packs, logic wires and the rocket silo itself are def. the highest on the dangerous "accidental hand craft" list!
Could u bridge the lake above u have enough stone to do it. It would get u oil. Might be good to rush flame throwers I know they do insane damage.

Poison capsule's are great for taking out worms.
It's hidden behind blue science though
I expect your decision to be landfill islands in the lake to use underground pipes to bring the oil south. You do not want to pipe vulnerable pipes out west.
And even the small pumpjack pollution will self-destruct the eastern field. That will need tech to clear the area.
Question: would it be viable to run loops around the nests grenading them down and then draging the biters far away and then just leaving them there? If i remember correctly, biters will eventually loose agro. Would prob only work on small worms but i think it should be doable.
Run, no. Drive, maybe. The problem is, the nests spawn new enemies very quickly on 100% evo, so by the time you're back a new party awaits you
33:15 The journey of the mosquito!
Love the new 'Playthrough' narration! You sound more confident somehow.
14:15 Little Johnny is back from the dead again!
An idea for oil is to expand to the north and just make a 2 wide landfill bridge over to it.
3 wide seems better in case he needs to put down belts to/from it for any reason (including just so he can get up there faster to provide manual support against a biter attack)
Why not use landfill to make a small path to the upper oil patch?
Lovely commentary and wonderfully great playstyle!
Did you change up something regarding the commentary?
Yeah, this is mostly stumbly live play commentary vs the normal, well thought-out scripted voice over for the main series
@@MichaelHendriks I liked it. Of course it is more structured if it's scripted voice over but it suits this series very well to hear the thoughts behind each action as the action occurs.
Still a lovely playthrough! 👍

With your commentary i feel like im watching Bob Ross play factorio
I'm not sure how, but you made driving around the map entertaining....

34:47 tree a-tree-vments
Don't mess with The Tree!
You can try landfill a narrow road to upper oil patch.
It's also a possible to just leave the last part of the land bridge that allows an underground pipe to connect, but no biters to pass
@@jmatya sneeky
@@jmatya if biters wanna pass, they will still go around to u. Not connecting just makes future maintenance harder. Still would have to make landfill
Interesting comment about biters not being able to expand on an island.
Could this be exploited? The player can cross a single water tile, but a biters cannot. Using this, you could build islands in lakes where biters cannot get to.
Free expansion skip if they select them, and I guess they could even select them multiple times?
Just did a quick test, and yes! You CAN build artificial islands, making those chunks valid for expansion without the biters being able to reach them. (the chunk needs to have >10% land tiles, which is 103 tiles of landfill in a complete water chunk)
this is cool! i was a bit surprised to hear live mike after hearing scripted mike for so long, but once i learned you're doing live commentary to get this series out faster, it made a lot more sense
Will you finish the other series? This one is interesting but I would love to see the end of the other one.
Yes
OMG! I missed that you put this on patreon! SO excited :)
Take the north oil patch and use a landfill bridge to pipe the oil home.
Now that you seem to made a full switch to voiced commentary, do you think it's easier or harder to make these videos?
This "side-project" is meant to be easier/less time-intensive to produce, so I can release more than one 15-25 min video per week
Last time I spent this much time watching a man lay so much pipe, was on a very different website.
1 hour video from Michael?! It's great :)
The usual jokes weren't really to my taste, so I greatly enjoy this more chill commentary.
thanks for these longer episodes
Is it possible for a challenge like this, but with only moving trains as "walls"? :D
Yes, if you make sure you don't need to rely on your walls...
Behemoth Biter exoskeletons must be both extremely thick and incredibly hard for them to facetank steel bullets like that. The speed of the bullets is also probably comically slow given that I can only assume they're using iron thermite for propellant
You could always landfill to the oil, probably a lot safer than trying to belt or train around those nests lol
Late question, since I am just now watching these videos: You say that the biters will preferably choose land with green circles. You say that if they select an island, they won't expand. There was an island with green circles. They'll stay green since no biter can ever settle there. Doesn't that mean that when all other green spots are settled, they will always try the island and fail, forever? Was the whole exploration really necessary?
they will *usually* try the island and keep failing
@MichaelHendriks got it. "Usually" means there's a chance they'll still select one of the red chunks? That would answer my question - giving them as many alternative chunks as possible reduces the chance they choose the base
@@DerPumu yes

Love your videos man. You sound a little under the weather this episode. So I will shower you with praise. I love this content, it helps me relax, unwind, and even sleep better the days you release these.

I really enjoyed your new project. Keep doing what you doing :) Thank you
54:23 - any chance you have, and/or would be up for creating, either a compilation video and/or a playlist of short videos, compiling information about game mechanics like this? I find this series (and Ultimate Death World, and others from you) to be just full of rich information... but, you know, spread out over many hours of content. I think it'd be pretty cool to be able to point folks at a video or playlist from you that explains things like (in this case) how damage versus armor calculations work (which I think you have more on, elsewhere?), chunk exploration (also heavily explored in both mentioned series), etc. Either way, just gonna say thanks for sharing your hard-earned knowledge with us all, even in this form. :)
IDK, I feel that many of the explanations will be not very interesting without the context of an actual in-game example/situation as to why it is needed, especially for the more obscure ones like the background map generation mechanics.
@@MichaelHendriks Hmm, perhaps. But you do such a good job of exposing details that most folks don't... I feel like it could have a draw. Maybe not, I dunno. Anyway, what brought it up was that Krydax was trying to explain near the end (I think it was) of episode 22 (I think it was -- you can look for a comment from me, which has the timestamp) of his Krastorio/Freight Forwarding run about how damage bonuses and resistances and such interact, and... I thought of you, because you've explained that at some point in a way that made it make a whole lot of sense to me, that I hadn't previously realized. So... FWIW. :)
Oh, hey, Warpzone 4 is out! I'll go watch that now. :D
Some low frequency noise in background... is it always been and i start noticed it only now?

I love your sream Style narration! Keep it up, i am enjoying your videos!!
An HOUR long video? Oh hell yes
I Really love your Videos. but i think i like your non scripted videos like this one even more! Good job. i cant wait till next week!
Fair warning if I recall correctly there is still one more required hand craft to beat the game. The first oil refinery requires 5 items but at that current tech level assembly machines 2's can only process 4 items. Plastic is required to research automation 3 to machine craft more refineries.
It used to be like that, but the devs changed it so that all assemblers have as many inventory slots as needed for the recipe, meaning you can even craft the sattellite with a mark 1 assmbly machine. (the major difference remaining now between AM1 and AM2, is that fluid inputs are not available for AM1)
Hey🎉 love your videos, I look forward to Friday mornings!
BUT PLEASE FINISH DEATHWORLD
It will be finished. Next week next episode. The episodes have naturally became longer with each topic spanning more time, so they now take more time to make too.
In my experience the long unused poison capsules do pretty well vs worms, might be worth giving them a shot if it's cheaper or safer

How he manage to hit all that rocks! Time even slow down before any hit!
they must have been shy the copper patch biters
I, personally, want more of this.
i know youre already recording ep 3 but to get that northern oil field, you can use a single lane of landfill to create your own bridge to that oil field, and the underground pipes will travel through both landfill and water just fine (they go through water provided land is on each side). It also cuts the distance to less than half, and you can create a micro plant to power it or run power lines along the one tile land bridge. Youd also have a much easier time defending it as its already isolated and covered by water on almost a 180° arc
Would this be the first time landfill makes an appearance in your videos?
you can also create another power plant in that area to remove some of the pollution from the main base, ive used the long distance power strategy before, just create a double sized plant or leave a big chest or two of coal to minimize refueling trips in the early game
I never really liked using landfill as a strategic weapon... But maybe this game, I'll have to rethink that
Thanks for playlists

It never really went away
I can't wait to see how you're going to deal with those nests
35:40 it seems like you could have "gotten back" by continuing to explore to the north-east?
Edit: It seems like you were trying to explore more to the south / south-east, so were looking the other direction.
Dumb question - would it be better to take off and start a base much farther out to get bigger resource patches? Also can find a place with low bitters?
Biter bases and frequency seem to grow with distance from spawn too, as well as the worm type (small worms near spawn, then medium a bit further out, and so on). Also spawn is the only place where all 4 resources are scripted to spawn closely together. But you're on to something, you may want to watch this one for a similar strategy:

love your videos
You finally have live audio, great
yo i literally watched first part today and you upload the second???? good job!
Maybe you could build a “land bridge” over to the oil in the north to avoid the biter passage to the north west
Is there any way you can land fill to the oil up north? If there is that might be the way
Hi. Thank you so much for the video! Your content is one of my favorites on RUclips right now :) You sound a bit tired to me, so I hope it's just my imagination and you're actually doing great!
Its Time for Space exploration death world
Would it work to keep a couple of miners active as you do this exploration, so that you're still generating resources while having a pollution cloud that definitely won't reach any nests?
Yes. I would have if I had known the the exploration was gonna be THIS extensive though, I expected we'd be cut off much sooner!
I always struggle with the level of tools, utilities and mods before the achievement becomes tainted. Never ceases to amaze me how intelligently and masterfully MH plays this game. It would be a little better to see someone do all these challenges 100% vanilla.knowing exactly when and where biters are expanding is what I am referring to partly.
I understand the sentiment, I mainly do it here to showcase what's going on for the viewer experience, as showing it visually is much clearer to understand what's going on behind the mechanics.
If you use the strats made popular by pros like Nefrums or AntiElitz, you might still get the spoon chievo.
Maybe, but they generally don't care about pollution, and so build very big very quick, which doesn't really work here.
@@canebro1 There also the deathworld and default settings categories where they do care about pollution. Still, in these settings, expansions spawn way less frequently and you can defend with landmines, which probably dont kill behemoth. falmer walls could still work and might give you sub 8 hours, but isnt easy.
ah the nostalgia 50:00
I'm no expert, but I play a little. Just wondering if rushing solar panels and dropping radars a ways out and not exploring as much might enable "There is no spoon?"
edt: or i guess dropping steam plants as pollution doesn't matter.

We may not build solar panels for an achievement "Steam all the way". Steam powered remote solar panels are not really viable, because they need boatloads of fuel (found that out the hard way)
