Oh my God I don't know how to thank you, After sometime and going by so many videos, finally I got U in front of me and I could fix my machine and I didn't have to paid more than 70.00 just to take a look at my machine, I am a low income and was almost crying. Thank you, and God bless you.
I know this was a decade ago, but this happens to me a lot and I always get so frustrated and quit for months. I have 6 little ones and one on the way... I am trying to learn how to sew myself, but the learning curve often takes time I don't have. This video was just like having a friend teaching me right there. Thank you so much. I have been blessed by this and can sew (albeit not great) again. Thank you!
Thank you, just made my first set of net curtains everything went great to say it was my very first time to ever touch a sewing machine !! then when i had finished i got over confident, and tryed out some different stitches on some scrap material and this happend ?? your vidio was great for me to sort it out, your tone was so relaxed and you did not over complicate it, like some other vidios i have watched, thank you
Hello Lawrence. It is quite the project to saw curtains as the very first time sewing. Well done! I appreciate that you took the time to write. It makes my day to know that this video was of help :D Happy sewing!!!
The cloth keeps jamming Everytime we untangle it. It’s a brand new machine. What could be the problem. It is good to see you are responding to comments even after 8 years of making this video. Thank you so much !
Enjoyed this very much. I try to sort out good quality from bad. You showed us where the problem was and fixed it with good camera skills. Pretty rare on youtube. Thanks
So I just bought the sewing machine online and it was delivered with no demo whatsoever. Followed a RUclips tutorial and managed to set up the machine to finally get started and to my horror the darned cloth got stuck after running smoothly for 2 minutes. Arrghhh! Now a beginner like me was completely unprepared for any such blunders . Thanks to you , you literally saved my day ! With your step by step tutorial, I could easily dismantle the parts, pull out the cloth and fix it. I feel like a genius :-)
Yes, thank you! My wife's CS6000i got jammed and we had no idea what to do. The manuals were not as helpful as I would have hoped for this situation. This was the PERFECT video for helping us solve the issue. You're the best :)
Thank you! This exact thing just happened to me on my brand new machine, and you totally saved me!! Thank you for generously sharing your time and knowledge on RUclips. Excellent video!
Thank you so very much for this video. I've only had my machine for about two weeks and have only done embroidery on it. I was in the middle of a design and I got that warning and I was afraid that I would have to return it to the manufacturer. What a relief to find your video and see you remove the pieces so the material could be removed. I was surprised just how much dust was in there from only two weeks use. Thank you and God bless you too!
Hello :) I am VERY happy to know that you found me and that the video was helpful. Is rewarding to be able to fix little problems. The more we use our machines the more things we discover :)
Very good video. Your thorough visual demonstration along with excellent voice clarity made it so easy to learn. I have the same machine and fabric jammed last year. I had no idea how to unscrew the metal panel and slide out the plastic one. I now understand how to undo fabrics jams and how to clean. Thank you so much.
You’re amazing! I was in the middle of hemming my velvet bridesmaid dress of all things and was so stressed out about damaging this fabric. You’re an angel! ❤❤
I have an embroidery machine and my bobbin thread got tangled and pulled all the fabric inside and my hoop was stuck. I have only used my machine a few times. Even though its a different brother machine, it is essentially the same inside and this video saved me from throwing it out of the window! thank you :)
Thank you for sharing this video, Laura. You're so patient! That, in itself, is a wonderful lesson on how not to lose your cool when a jam of this magnitude happens :-) So many times we're in a hurry or so focused on the project that we get flustered and impatient with the process of fixing the jam and rush it. I so appreciate that you didn't and provided a motivating example to follow! Bless you, Laura!
I am very moved by your kind comment. I appreciate that you took the time to write. You are very correct, sometimes one can get a bit fluster by little issues that can stop one's productivity. When I'm dealing with little hiccups while working on a project I find myself enjoying the process of learning how to fix things and understandig the machine :) I guess I also learn a bit of patience :) I hope you have a BEAUTIFUL DAY Gayle
This is a great teaching video. I have a XR9500PRW that is 1 year old and I'm always having trouble with fabric jamming. We were going to go to the sewing center to have it serviced, then in the middle of the night I looked the problem up and did exactly what you suggest and it solved the problem!! I still think I will purchase a machine of higher quality, because it jams easily at the edge of the fabric and when using the fancy stitches. Thanks again for the wonderful help.
Thank you so much for your video. I just bought a new machine and was trying the new stitches. As soon as I thought "I like this machine", it got jammed. Your video helped me through my first problem. (and thanks for the trick with a penny - my screwdriver did not even fit under the body of the machine)
Diana S Thank you for taking the time to write. I am glad the video helped. Once in a while I still deal have this problem. But now I am more aware of the sounds that the machine makes when something is not right. So I stop right away, I try to make sure that; I'm not pulling the fabric, that the needle & thread are righ type for the fabric I'm using. Also I check the tension of the thread and the size of the stitches :)
Very easy to stop that from happening... Because of the hole in the plate for most newer machines, flimsy fabric like that it can happen a lot. Easy cure, use a piece of paper on the bottom of the fabric. I use a roll of 10 inch X 50 yard tear away stabilizer on the bottom. That roll was $7 on Amazon.com... also works good for when I do embroidery. Straight stitch only machines do still have a use... this would not have happened with one, the hole is only barely bigger than the needle.
one of the best video i have found for getting material out . now would love to find a video on how to fix if the thread get wrapped under bobbin and around chase how to fix. like the lady said do not use can air
video addressing the jammed fabric and solution. was complete and easy to understand and follow. thank you. now off i go to see if i can fix my machine. i can't live without machines . hand stitching is to slow and boring. leave that to the needlepoint crafter
Thanks so much! I just started using my machine yesterday. Not the same model, but it is a Brother. I am a newbie to sewing and your video worked perfectly. I was able to get the jammed thread out and start over.
Spring Johnson I'm glad you found me, and that you were able to continue your project :) I sill feel like a newbie. I only became more aware of taking a few more steps, to try to avoid jams like this. I make sure the thread, the needle and the tension are the right combo for the type of fabric is being used. :)
I can't add a comment for some reason, but I just can't thank you enough!!! You saved me from pulling all my hair out as I was getting crazy trying to figure out how to unjam my machine! Thank you muchly, muchly, muchly!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of sewing machine jams, I'm new at sewing, and I was frustrated with the fabric getting stuck and I was afraid of taking the plate off, but I can't wait for the next fabric jam so I can do this. Thank you again.
Hello :) I'm glad you found me and that the video was of help :) I had the same problems when I started using my machine for the first time. I have been able to avoid jams by making sure that: The thread, the needle and the fabric are the correct size and type for each other. I make sure to dial the tension of the thread on the machine to the propper setting according to the type of fabric and thread I'm using.
Thank you Laura, I thought I broke my machine because the jam extended very far in, I had to remove the bobbin case. I got my sewing machine last week. This is my 2nd jam!
Thank you so very much for this video! I was just in the process of sewing my first project ever and this happened! Without your video I would have given up entirely. THANK YOU!
5/8/2020: Thank you very much for this video. It definitely helped me to fix this problem. My issue was trying to go over a round rubber cord and trying to force it through. Causing a jam up where the needle kept going in the same space for too long🤦🏽♀️ Lesson learned. Keep up the good work. It helps a lot to know others have the same issues and how to overcome them. 🥳
Excellent video. You are thorough and easy to understand. The sewing machine is easy to see as you explain. Now, if you could just tell me why my machine continues to draw my fabric into the feed dogs, my day would be real close to perfect. ;)
Thank your the nice comment! Regarding the little issue we all have: This are a few things that I try to be aware of in order to try to avoid jams with the fabric. The thickness of the fabric & the correct stitch. I set the machine using the suggested stitches in the manual for the material to sew. I also try to remember to use the appropriate thread for the type of fabric. Tension of the dial If the dial tension is putting too much pressure on the fabric, the fabric doesn't move with flow between the foot presser and the metal plate, as it should. Then the fabric gets jammed. If you have other ideas, please share :)
Laura Iglesias Besides using genuine Brother SA 156 bobbins and keeping the lint and bits of thread cleaned out from under the bobbin case (holder)...using a stabilizer under floppy open weaved fabric like the fabric in this video (as well as thin fine fabric) will help keep the fabric from being pulled down into the feed dogs. Either store bought stabilizer or using strips of printer paper will work as a stabilizer.
Thank you so very much for posting this video as you helped me SEW much!!!! I looked for answers online for hours and your video saved my life and four projects and sales. And your help also saved me hundreds of dollars! :)
Wow! Thank you so much. Found this video in 2022, and following. I love you step-by-step instructions and very good explanations. I’m new to this sewing and embroidery hobby. Thanks again.
This was very helpful right now, good camera work, good commentary and I didn’t have the tool kit with me so a coin was a great idea. You saved the day. Thanks.
I just wanted to say thank you so, so much for this video! You totally saved me on my very first project and my very first time using a sewing machine. I'm so grateful. Thanks again! :)
Laura Iglesias hi my machine also jam but I taken that little cloth after that upperthread don't take that bobbin thread wt is the reason? Please can u tell me
First unplug the machine. Then take the bobbin out. Then manually work the needle up and down. This usually unjams the fabric. Only take apart at last resort
Yeah this video should have been labeled last resort for getting it out, take the bobbin out cut the thread get the needle up, but don’t use duster to blow the lint to the inside of the machine it didn’t disappear now it’s inside the machine.
My Singer jammed. Borrowed My neighbor's Brother and then it had bobbin issues AND jammed! I'm glad you made this video. Now I at least know how to fix ONE of them!
Alright Laura! I was digging my wifes new machine hemming my jeans up. WHen it suddenly jammed pulling the material into the bobbin area. I thought maybe I can tell her someone borrowed it while I'm getting it reparied? Nope...closest place was 45 minutes away. So figured I used to fix cars why not this baby? Oh wow man there are a ton of springs...gears....plates...wheels....ect. Better look at a UTube video....found yours. Huh....just cleaning the bobbin area would fix this??? Alright!! It all went well till she saw me carrying it into the garage where the air compressor was. Uhh oh!!! But it fixed it!!! WHEW!!! Thanks!!
I got this same machine for Christmas. I was trying out decorative stitches on it. When testing on 2-4 layers of denim, all was fine. When I tested on 2 layers of hoodie material, it would seem ok on the slow setting but when I speeded it up the stitches they get compressed. When i was trying to clear a jam I tried taking the plate off the but the screw on the plate to the left rear was so tight on, and the positioning of it so awkward I couldn't get it off. I ended up clearing it from the bobbin area.
Thank you so much ! I don't know if mi e is going to be okay, as it sounded like something broke..but thanks to you, I can see how to take it apart to SEE if it's fixable. It's brand new, so I HOPE so! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this! I thought I broke my machine and I was really sad...but now it's good! My machine didn't come with a little thing to unscrew the screws, and I never thought to use a penny...thank you!!
Bless your soul!! I just started sewing and I'm using my moms machine (I'm 16) and I was gonna get roasted if I broke the machine. I was going in with a whole screwdriver but it was too big!! Thanks for the tip
Thank you so much for this beginner friendly tutorial! 🥳🎉It absolutely eased the panic of what to do if this happened and it also took away the fear of resolving the problem. Thanks for sharing!🤗❤️
I am REALLY happy to know that the video it's helpful. Yes, this type of sewing machine is good when one is learning to sew. By making mistakes I have learned to deal better with the sewing machine, and manage sewing different type of fabrics. Let's continue learning :) it's fun.
Helen C thank you for watching & for the advise. I won't be doing it any more now that I'm aware :) I had my machine for 3 years I'm lucky is still working perfectly.
Good video! Thank you. I have mine embroidery brother that gets jam and also cut the thread. I am afraid to open the Machine. In the past I got it pen and was so difficult to built it up again 👍🏽
A suggestion is replace the needle, once the machine has jammed you will probably have either a burr on the needle or the needle will be slightly bent, a few cents to avoid another problem.
Thank you, thank you! Even my model is the Singer Start 1304 and is slightly different than the one shown in this video, the video helped me clear the jam on my new Singer sewing machine, which kinda scared me for a moment that I'd broken a brand new sewing machine :)
You are an angel. 😇 thank you so much. I've been trying to figure this out for years. I am a full time college student so I couldn't afford to take it to get it fixed. Again, thank you. 😁
All your tips & suggestions on fixing the troubles are excellent . Thank you very much. My machine is continuously indicating that "Safety device is activated". I removed the screws and took out the steel as well as plastic covers, bobbin case, cleaned the lint . Tried to start the machine. But still I am getting the same indication. Please advise me what to do. I am a resident of Perth West Australia living in Northern suburb.
+VTCS - Vedic Training Hello, Thank you very much for the nice comment, and for taking the time to write. It is great to know that we can connect through this media, I saw on google maps pictures of Perth and it looks beatiful! Regarding the issue with your machine: According to the manual... When the error "Safety device is activated" - The probable cause: The upper thread has become tangled around the bobbincase, and the needle is bent and hitting the palte, etc., I haven' had that problem, but to address it, I would first make sure that needle I'm using is perfectly straight or that it is not overused. I found this information online, it may be useful: 1. www.brother-usa.com/askus/default.aspx?PGID=3&R3ModelID=HE240#.Vum0sOIrKUk 2. www.justanswer.com/1avr-sewing-machine-repair/5y3fg-brother-1250d-error-message-safety-device-activated.html 3. www.fixya.com/tags/safety_device_activated
I was using my machine sewing buttons holes and switches off my machine and when using it again the little green light on the left side to the needle threader staying red sometimes and then button for reserve stop working and the foot peddle stated to sewing automatically without me pressing the foot peddle and if i press the pedal it will not sew it will stop and for it to sew i have to not pressing it please reply with thank
Well done!without you i wouldnt be able to fix my problem!the only thing i discovered is you dont need to unscrew metal plate.plastic bit that keeps the bobin ,opens if you just pul it towards you
Thank you very helpful! Unstuck. Yes I would love automatic screws as well especially for the presser feet. I try not to unscrew it all the way because it is always such a pain to put back on. Even used a penny was much easier.
Omg thank you so so so much, i couldn't thank you as much as i really wnated to here! My sewing machine had a thread jam and was really determined to send it to a mechanic although it was only little problem, but turned out it was really easy peasy to fix.
Your video helps others not to yank out the jam. Closeup views are super easy to see and your fingers and hands are not in the way...your explanations are great too. Two things may have caused the fabric jam: the lint and bits of thread in the bobbin area and especially a genuine Brother bobbin was not being used. Recognized the bobbin and it looks like a Singer or Dritz. It seriously matters to use the correct Brother bobbin. The kind stated to use in the manual will save your machine damage.
Please do NOT use canned air. This forces the debris into the machine where it should not be. It can get into the bearings and cause a trip to the maintenance shop. They make a micro vacuum attachment that works perfectly for getting all of that out without damaging your machine.
thank you for watching & for the advise. Is good to be aware :) I had my machine for 4 now years. I'm lucky is still working perfectly. Never need it a visit to the maintanance shop yay.
I was using my brother pe800 to embroider a hydrangea when I realized that the needle was going up and down, but not otherwise moving, which created a serious jam. I had to abandon the project. I changed the needle, got a new design, got new fabric and stabilizer, and rethreaded up and down, but wouldn't you know it, the needle started bunching up on the second project. I was afraid I was going to have to take it in. So I started all over, redid everything except the needle. It seems to be working okay now. Fingers crossed.
Lowering the feed dogs using the drop feed switch in the back will make the needle plate much easier to remove. Also, never use the machine under power to try to move the needle during a jam or crash. The needle itself can shatter, or other internal parts can get bent or broken very easily when the machine is jammed under power. Use the manual handwheel to bring the needle back up. Turn it towards you slowly and the risk of breaking other parts is much less.
Ohhh my gosh ur a beast!! I would of NEVERR taken my machine apart! U r my hero Lololol 😂😂. I am having a prob. Same machine. My bobbin thread keeps getting tangled underneath!! I DID turn off & Bk on🙈
Omg thanks so much for this. I kept on retreading. My machine and it didn't help. So I opened the bottom and aparently the bobbin holder thingy was out of place. Which is weird cos everything was sewing fine and all of a sudden it bunched. Can the bobbin holder move itself to a wrong position?
Thanks for this i was in a panic when my machine jammed. Try not to use those air things with fluid in them it's better to use a vacuum then follow up with an electric air blower, it's much safer.
Oh my God I don't know how to thank you, After sometime and going by so many videos, finally I got U in front of me and I could fix my machine and I didn't have to paid more than 70.00 just to take a look at my machine, I am a low income and was almost crying. Thank you, and God bless you.

My issue was trying to go over a round rubber cord and trying to force it through. Causing a jam up where the needle kept going in the same space for too long🤦🏽♀️
Lesson learned.
Keep up the good work. It helps a lot to know others have the same issues and how to overcome them.
🥳
Super helpful! Felt stressed bc I couldn’t figure out my machine but this has me feeling more confident
Thanks for your video… helped resolved my girl’s 1st time using her new machine and it was jammed with cloth within 10mins after test-sewing 🤣
Excellent video. You are thorough and easy to understand. The sewing machine is easy to see as you explain.
Now, if you could just tell me why my machine continues to draw my fabric into the feed dogs, my day would be real close to perfect. ;)
Thank your the nice comment!
Regarding the little issue we all have:
This are a few things that I try to be aware of in order to try to avoid jams with the fabric.
The thickness of the fabric & the correct stitch.
I set the machine using the suggested stitches in the manual for the material to sew. I also try to remember to use the appropriate thread for the type of fabric.
Tension of the dial
If the dial tension is putting too much pressure on the fabric, the fabric doesn't move with flow between the foot presser and the metal plate, as it should. Then the fabric gets jammed.
If you have other ideas, please share :)

this solution worked for me....infact my problem is needle broke n fell inside ....and after
seeing this I cud remove it out.....thank you so much..
thank you so much for this video! i was so overwhelmed by the instructions in the manual, but you perfectly walked me though it!
Thank you. I spent an hour struggling to reseat the throat plate then decided to look it up on youtube. 5 minutes later - job done
I just wanted to say thank you so, so much for this video! You totally saved me on my very first project and my very first time using a sewing machine. I'm so grateful. Thanks again! :)

Started with stuck 😅. Figured it out after watching your video. Very useful. Thanks
Worked out very well! Your directions was on point & my machine is sewing like it’s brand new. Thank you!
Thank you so much! My machine has been stuck for months and this vid solved my problem in 8 min!
That makes me really happy to hear! thanks for letting me know :D
Laura Iglesias hi my machine also jam but I taken that little cloth after that upperthread don't take that bobbin thread wt is the reason? Please can u tell me
😂
First unplug the machine.
Then take the bobbin out. Then manually work the needle up and down. This usually unjams the fabric. Only take apart at last resort
Yeah this video should have been labeled last resort for getting it out, take the bobbin out cut the thread get the needle up, but don’t use duster to blow the lint to the inside of the machine it didn’t disappear now it’s inside the machine.
My Singer jammed. Borrowed My neighbor's Brother and then it had bobbin issues AND jammed! I'm glad you made this video. Now I at least know how to fix ONE of them!
Yay! At least one of them is functioning :)
Nice to see that this machine can take 2- layers of denim. I am glad you were able to figure it out.
Thanks.... I did it myself with the help of your video! It worked! 😊
I'm so glad it was of help. Thank your for taking the time to write :)
+VTCS - Vedic Training Hello,
Thank you very much for the nice comment, and for taking the time to write. It is great to know that we can connect through this media, I saw on google maps pictures of Perth and it looks beatiful!
Regarding the issue with your machine: According to the manual... When the error "Safety device is activated" - The probable cause: The upper thread has become tangled around the bobbincase, and the needle is bent and hitting the palte, etc.,
I haven' had that problem, but to address it, I would first make sure that needle I'm using is perfectly straight or that it is not overused.

Thank you so much I almost gave up on my 4 year old machine and this video saved it
My problem is I got thread jammed in the same place as your fabric was. And had no clue how to get it out. I think this will work. Thanks xx
foxxybrown291 Hi :) Thank you for writing, I hope you were able to get your machine working again.
It was a great help, its all sorted now xx
foxxybrown291 Thank you for taking the time tor write. I'm glad it was of help :)
You were so helpful, thank you very much for taking the time to make this and share it. You saved the DAY!
A vacuum will help suck out all the lint. An air can will push all the lint into the machine.
Very helpful to see the inside components. My thread was getting jammed around the auto cutter (which wasn't sliding back in properly). Thanks!
Same problem is happening to me. What do you do to fix auto cutter?
Thank you so much. You helped me so much. Great video and you talking and walking threw it helps. Two thumbs up.
Thanks so much I was panicking when this happened and I've got no idea what to do😘😘😘🎊🎊
You just saved me oh my god I'm so grateful for this video😭🙏
This so nice to know, thank you. I hope you can continue sewing nice things.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Yours was the only one that helped me with this problem ❤
Wow, thank you so much for this video. I've been trying to get the bobbin case back in the right way for hours after a jam!
Thanks so much Laura, this is so helpful was already getting frustrated.
What about suggestions that pressurized air can force lint further into our machine’s? I’m just wondering? Happy sewing!
Thank you very much for the comments :) It's good to know that one's mistakes can help others.
great video but can u shows us how to adjust the tension and which screw?
Well done!without you i wouldnt be able to fix my problem!the only thing i discovered is you dont need to unscrew metal plate.plastic bit that keeps the bobin ,opens if you just pul it towards you
thank you so much for this video! you saved my project. :)
That is great to hear!! I'm glad you found me : D
Thank you. I appreciate your video. Your easy to understand. Your video quality is awesome. And your precise and to the point. Thanks again!!
Hi ma’am thank you for the video it helped a lot but could you tell me the name of the tool you use to unscrew the plate and where you got it from?
Thank you so much for posting this video and walking me through this! It’s solved my problem and you saved the day! Thank you thank you! 🙏🏼
This is awesome and saved me from a lot of aggravation. Thanks
Thanks I needed to see someone to show me how to remove that plate!
Thank you so much!!!! I was so close to losing my mind when its stuck
Thanks your help worked perfectly with my jammed thread by bobbin.
this saved my life seriously. thank you so much!
May god bless you
You really saved my time and your video was really helpful
Thanks to your advice, I was able to remove the stuck clothe in a minute, winning some brownie points from my wife !!!
I hope you were able to complete your project. Sometimes those little hiccups get us to understand more our machines :)
Excellent video. Exactly what i needed. Well done and good photography
Thank you so much this helped me remove the fabric from my sewing machine
Wonderful video help.... Saved me a trip to the dealer. Thanks so much
I am really happy to know that it was of help :)
Ohhh my gosh ur a beast!! I would of NEVERR taken my machine apart! U r my hero Lololol 😂😂. I am having a prob. Same machine. My bobbin thread keeps getting tangled underneath!! I DID turn off & Bk on🙈
Hey I just had this problem you just have the bobbin in the wrong position. Turn it abit clockwise and it will work.
Whew! You just saved my order. THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!😁
Thanks, you saved me when my fabric accidentally got sucked in the machine while sewing! 🤪
Thank you for video. I was was so frustrated.👐🏾
Thank you so much. This literally just happened to me. But even after cleaning and fixing it. The fabric keep getting stuck
Thanks for this i was in a panic when my machine jammed. Try not to use those air things with fluid in them it's better to use a vacuum then follow up with an electric air blower, it's much safer.
