Dawn of Madness is one of the reasons I'm finished with crowd-surfing. Despite the creator's best intentions, that game is the worst example of development hell. I think backers will be lucky to get both waves within the next 3 years, and it's been reworked so much that the original game that was sold is going to be nowhere near what people ended up backing.

I've been on again off again on the "maddness" series. It looks exactly like something I'd enjoy from the outside, but then I look more into it and find its not actually what you'd think. Loads of minis, story heavy...but plays more like a puzzle game than anything. I think the producers mean well and go heavy with theme but struggle with mechanics.
Village Attacks is a horror story, which is a shame because its actually quite fun. I'm glad I just grabbed the first version and missed the kickstarter. I hope people in the UK, were consumer protection laws are more developed, are able to pull their money back out of the dead company.
Its worth noting that designers who worked on village attacks moved on to other projects on kickstarter.

Yeah hope it goes well for people on village attacks, i'd like to get a copy at some point.
Same with deep madness, if dawn of madness had delivered i might have backed that campaignas both games/universe are interesting to me but Im hesistant to back Dirmenson games projects.

I’m in on dawn of madness all in.
I’m thinking it will be 2030 when everything comes.

Hopefully not that long but id say a couple more years until wave 2 is done for sure

Interesting take, thank you a lot for this journey along memory lane! ^^
I skipped Trudvang but I am waiting for Wild Assent which I deemed a rather accessible Boss Battler to contrast Kingdom Death. I just got Oathsworn 2nd Ed which will scratch the same itch and delivered super fast ^^
So glad I got Village Attacks from the first Kickstarter. It fully delivered. I only bought the Asian Expansion in the second so my loss is not that great. I really love the game. So sad for everyone who never gets to play it, has all the anger and hassle to get refunds out of that bankrupt company. I think the NEverrain broke them.
I am really happy they properly develop Dawn of Madness ... the current game looks intriguing and I still have good hopes for it. I love Deep Madness of which I have the first KS fully painted :D
I have a few larger KSs that are still in limbo ... namely Sandy Petersen Games: Planet Apocalypse and Eternal Adversary. We play a lot of Co-op Cthulhu games so these looked right up our alley. ... Also Darkest Dungeon 2nd wave from Mythic. Sigh ... I backed a language version which was scheduled to be 2nd wave to begin with :(

The only game that i've backed that seems a long time away from now is Stormsunder, but because of a game with a long wait like that i'm more cautious these days and sometimes just wait until the end of the late pledge window to end up backing a game so I don't have to wait too long haha

I lost a lot of money on Village Attacks. I was all in on that plus getting all the expansions from the original and it was a harsh blow to see how it ended up.

Damn that sucks man, I hope some other company can buy it up and get it out to people, has happened for a few games but with how poor Grimlord Games communicates we dont even know if they even tried anything to get the games made

Giving money to someone you havent met for a product that doesnt exist. WHAT WERE YOU ALL EXPECTING.

Board games are a strange world on crowdfunding sites, it is pretty much a glorified pre order system for board game publishers unlike things like video games, most of the time you are just being sold a finished product through a timed kickstarter, it is very strange compared to most other hobbies.

Dont understand why some one would buy a game with rules which could be crap. Someone in the states mentioned on Dakka spent 150,000$ on KS then realised they had bought crap.

I have Trudvang Legends. I actually really like the story, but the game mechanics are awful. I plan to salvage the game by playing out the wave 2 story as a D&D campaign.

I late pledged all-in on Grim Dynasty, but
Decided to cancel as I just didnt like the Chinese theme and just wanted the original game. This was before there was trouble so they refunded me the full amount no problem. So I dodged a bullet there.
The original Village Attacks is still one of my most wanted games though. Some day I'll find a deal on a 100% complete KS all-in

A company should have already done the design, production, and packaging before listing it on Kick Starter. The company takes the money they have raised to pay off the investors. Then, sell the product. Recomp on the sales, and decide on if its worthwhile to do another production cycle. If a company cannot convince an investor that they can turn a profit, or if they cannot properly manage business financing. They shouldn't even bother with the development of the product. Because these pledges are commonly becomming a scam.
