What makes Pinwheel's fate even worse is knowing that he really did succeed. After you defeat him, you unlock the Rite of Kindling, which allows you to increase the capacity of Estus flask. Estus flasks are your main healing items in Dark Souls, which are bottles of divine fire (Estus) that give the Undead (90% of characters in the game) life. Vaati was alluding to it since players would know what it means, but yeah...the only reason Pinwheel could not succeed was that he was in the player's way, and you - as the Chosen Undead, savior of the world - "needed" his abilities to restore life "more" than him.

Siegmeyer's story in dark souls is by far the saddest imo. It's a tale of someone seeking adventure, however his need for assistance slowly strips away his ambition. A tale of how helping someone confront adversity is slowly dooming them to a sad fate. I feel it perfectly captures the mood of dark souls, alongside Solaire's story. It's the characters like them that made me appreciate the world that dark souls created, a world where nothing matters anymore and the only thing you can do is focus on the things that keep you sane.

Black Iron Tarkus is soo cool. That first clip doesn't show it well. But when you summon him to fight that Iron Golem. There is a chance he can just solo the fight. Forcing the giant mechanical knight off the cliff's edge. Truely heroic, only to die due to the weight of his armor, is lack of dexterity to cross the rafters without falling.

I hope this becomes a series, as Souls Lore is my favorite story in gaming.
If you're curious about what the undead curse even is or any story details for context and to better understand the world, feel free to ask. I love talking about souls lore.
Some context for Tarkus's beginning skit is that Tarkus is an extremely OP summon who can literally solo the boss. And further context, the boss gets a health boost if you summon players or NPCs. So Tarkus helped a lot of people get past Sens Fortress, hence why Tarkus is so venerated. It would genuinely be a harder fight if you had to fight Tarkus and summon the Giant Golem for help.

The best thing about first-time reaction videos, especially when those reacting to the video are reacting to something you have watched before, and it is a subject you are a fan of, is that warm feeling of sharing something you enjoy with someone new. It's like sharing your old toys with a new kid. Maybe it is the desire to share the love or misery of what we cherish.
On a side note watching VaatiVidya earlier videos truly show how far he has come. The quality of the storytelling has really improved, making him one of the best Souls loremaster.

Well, if you're going to react to these, I recommend the Prepare to Cry for "Lucatiel", a character from Dark Souls 2. It's very tragic, as a lot of Dark Souls 2 has to do with losing yourself to the undead curse, and becoming a husk of a person. A real life parallel of the Undead Curse would be like having an extremely rapid case of dementia, and her story arc plays on the fear of losing yourself, and not knowing how to stop it.

He has remastered a few these videos and added insight from the future titles that weren't out at the time, I think you should watch these first as it covers groundwork into the world and more major characters like Gwyn, Artorias and the Children of Chaos and concepts like what the Dark Souls even are, what is the curse of Undead, how do gods and mortals work etc, whereas Pinwheel and Black Tarkus etc are very minor characters in Lordran. The videos also have some way better production value as it isn't a decade old

You should see the artorias one, though the remastered version is much better and flows a lot more smoothly as this comes after vaati has built his channel. That said some of the prepare to cry videos won't make sense unless you've seen certain ones first, like when he references gwyn and the undead curse. But for most of the character videos, most don't rely on having much background.

Regarding the knight that’s trying to retain their sanity, in the world of Dark Souls, every time a being dies in the game, they lose a part of themselves until they eventually become a Hollow and go insane. To help avoid this, many characters in the series will focus on a goal or ideal to help anchor their sanity. The knight in the video has died numerous times up to this point and as a result has started to go insane as he is having trouble reciting numbers. He’s become so afraid of dying again that’s he refuses to continue moving past this point and instead chooses to wait and watch others go forward instead. This is used to contrast Iron Tarkus who valiantly pushes forwards in spite of all this.

"Necromancy's never a good idea." I can think of numerous reasons to choose necromancy if you're going to be something like a surgeon, doctor or whatever. Since necromancers deal with body parts, anatomy, etc, imagine how great it would be to have a sane, ethical necromancer working in a hospital or on the field like an army medic. I want to see necromancers like that instead of just the typical evil guys and girls or the screwups who didn't read the instruction manual before practicing the stuff. Or just to have someone who can revive fallen soldiers, without making them into any equivalent of the Scourge from WoW, if you don't have a priestly fellow on hand. Ah but still a lovely reaction as always. Have a fine day or night!

And for Iron Knight Tarkus? He's amazing, his spirit summon can simply solo the Iron Golem boss fight, and as for the Iron Golem gameplay-wise? A huge theme of Dark Souls is that the undead haven't fully lost their cognitive abilities and fight to keep their sanity, so that they don't lose their mind and become a "hollow" which is more of a proper zombie. The knight in the tower that is struggling to count is just finding a way to try and maintain his humanity. That is why everyone is desperately trying to find a fix.
